Ok first thing first why is it everyone wants to dip there fingers in to the Droideka? Weaponsmiths, Architechs, armorsmiths everyone wants a piece of the action on this one droid.

I could see if this was a large scale droid, the spiderbots or the missle droids, but this one droid is the holy grail for the starwars universe. No one wants to make BLL's have an armorsmith make the armor or an architech to build the frame or power core. Why is it Droideka have to be any different? Yes, maybe because it will be considered a master styled droid it should have exotic materials to make it, but not require others to make it. My DZ70 does not require me to go to a weaponsmith to make a blaster, why should any of my other ones require it?

Now I know this will make me unpopular, but hey we have been getting the short stick long enough and should not short sell ourselves now.

We have skills that could be added to, if we need to have some additional componets added to our skills then so be it. Let the HUGE style vehicle droids require cooperation, not basic droids.

Just to put my .02cr in:

The basic schematics seem pretty good to me but I would make a few modifications.

Rifle barrels - These should be replaced with 2 or 4 factory manufactured weapons. They can either be a specific weapon (2 factory manufactured laser rifles) or else any 2 weapons with the final damage being determined by the guns (yes, you can make it all by yourself if you don't mind it being armed with CDEF rifles). This keeps weaponsmiths in the loop without making DE's totally dependent upon them

Armor - According to one of the resource books I read Droidekas -do- have armor in addition to their shields. Its one of the things that makes them so dangerous. Of course all armor modules up to now have been optional, so I don't see why armor modules for a droidka couldn't be optional as well.

I don't see any real reason why it would need 2 droid brains. Yes, it would add to complexity, but not that much and not in a fashion that really makes that much sense to me. I do like the microsensors however (targeting sensors for each arm).

Probably through in an Energy Distributor since there's so much energy moving around in those droids.

For the suggestions from other people:

Manipulator Arms - Droidkas don't have Manipulator Arms or Manipulator Arm Packages. Manipulator Arms are a pair of arms ending in a hand or claw that let a droid grasp and manipulate objects. Droideka arms end in guns and are pretty much useless for that sort of thing. Manipulator Arm Packages are a whole set of different arms to accomplish tasks (like the arms that hang down from the probot or the different arms that extend from slots on R2D2's body). They don't appear to possess those, either.

Power Cores - I've never seen anything to make me believe a Droideka is any more capable of generating its own power than R2D2 or C3PO are. In fact, given the bulk of power cores (as shown by the power droid design) they probably wouldn't have them since it would slow them down far too much in combat.

Sorry. I think for a droideka, every component should be from the droid engineer tree. I suspect just because you're a weaponsmith that you add a weaponsmith component in the schematic. Are you trying make it easier for you to build droidekas and not for the rest of the DE's who don't have weaponsmith skill??

sorry wanji, im gonna have to dissagree withn you on that one, i for one am glad that im not totaly self sufficient. having to get a power core from a architect for my power droid was an annoying nusance at most but fair.

i was gonna add power core myself but i see in the above post you added it yourself.

My only change would be to not require crated stuff. Thats super annoying for me, maby its because im a full capacity with harvesteers to have a factory, and the current factory bugs.

Atomicdeath, I didn't say anything about I should be able to build them now.

What that has to do with me not liking that I need a factory when I can barely afford a low level harvestor....

If you want to be masochistic about your profession, go ahead and do that but don't drag everyone along you.

Droidekas will be the top of the line Combat droids i'm sure. Possibly Master DE only.. they should be hard to make.. as hard as a T21 rifle which requires 10 of the exact thing that also requires a factory.. Balance wise this will have to be..
At most should only require things from 2 other artisans types.

personally i'm estimating 40K for a droideka and i'm on the chaper side of things.

Personally I wouldn't mind throwing 40k at a DE for a HIGH QUALITY top of the line combat droid. I want one b/c they look cool and I might have to use it(might). I am self sufficient being a BH, but hey I use be a DE and well I respect the hard work from you(the ppl) who stuck it out this far. 40k ain't much for me, I can grind out that much and more in less than 30 minutes(lok missions).

If we are going to require parts from another profession, then please let it be simple items. Things that we can get a schematic for and easily make factory crates of these ourselves.

It is too **edit** hard to find an architect willing to make me a power core unit even for good prices.

Why spread the DE profession more thin than it already is? Experimentation is useless, along with 9/10 of our droids, so why should every other crafting profession be making more money off the sale of a Droideka than the DE who makes it? Everyone afrees the DE's need fixing, but when a rumor starts that we'll be able to make something usefull AND amazingly cool, everyone wants a piece of the pie. C'mon now...

While I agree that high end items should have interdependencies amoung the artisan classes, we DEs should not be unfairly burdened with this methodology, in relation to the others. As it is too many of our sub-components require master artisan in order to be built. I know other artisans have cross class dependencies but not to the degree of literally requiring you to master one or more of those other classes in order to be effective.

With this in mind I would suggest that we include the other classes, indirectly, by requiring player usable weapons and shield generators in the new combat droids, and make those items optional, but adding them with obviously increase the effectivness of the finished product.

make a*insert newcombat droid here*using dual *insert ranged weapon(s) here* and for shield/armor *insert shield generator/armor here*

What do you think?

BTW I hate permadeath for droids, but eternal droids are just as bad in the long run. Not sure if the new system will allow for droid decay over time, or repairs that have a risk andtop end decay, like armor and weapons do, anyone?

I agree with KynIO, we're too dependent on master artisan to the level that in order to be a cost-effective DE, you have to get master artisan. Master Artisan and Master DE leaves you litltle else for other nice pursuits you want to do in times when you want to take a break from crafting. The keywords hereare TOO DEPENDENT.

I don't think it's too late for Creature Handler. For me, I got enough scouting points to hit novice CH and I got two non-CH pets to start already.
