Thread: Did we just win?
No win yet, but closer than ever, I think
Anyway, Im still concerned about the "combat modules for the already existent droids"... We need more info on this issue.. I DONT WANT TO SEE MSEs KILLING NUNAs ![]()
Ellesa
At last a reason to delay the necessary DE revamp for another six months at least. Won? In a sense. Pwned? That, too.
My rather pessimistic vision: Another three months of 'We need more input' and 'We have something great in store for you' posts, then another three months of 'You will see changes next month' posts and then another utterly clueless charge in a direction no one wanted
That's the things that happen when you don't assign a Dev full-time to something but have a couple of people fiddling a bit every now and then ![]()
It's a mighty pleasant feeling to come here and see that they actually DO pay attention to us.
I understand why they went with combat droids first, it's easier! They understand combat, they understand telling pets to attack, they understand controlling pets in the first place. The idea of droids as utility items seems to have escaped them at first for some reason. It seems that we've managed to craft the dev team a pair of spectacles.
I was a bit taken aback to hear that they had basically finished getting combat droids ready to go before realizing what a can of worms they'd opened, though. Still, they are paying attention, and that's all to the good.
Did we "win"?
No.
This isn't about winning and losing. This is about getting the best content for the game and our profession.
The big problem here, as someone mentioned above, is that it seems that the DE community wants more in the way of utility droids and the DE customer base has been requesting droids with combat ability.
The question is - what is the best thing for the game? It all depends on who you ask. Combat oriented folks are more likely to say that combat droids will make the game better. Non-combat oriented folks are more likely to say that utility droids will make the game better.
It sounds more to me like we took the south road on a secret ultimatum that stated:
You either get your combat droids with a new profession or none at all.
More politically worded of course.
Oh well, Utility droids are fine by me, I am just ready to see something!

I don't think this is completely true. They were trying to rush something out that wasn't thought clearly through and without lisntening to the player base on how combat droids could possibly be implemented. Just look at the dev posts. They were talking about lvl 70 droids !!! Where in the world did the DE's ever say anything about a lvl 70 droid? I don't think the majority ever wanted anything like that. We just want a system in place for everyone to have a choice on whether to choose a better combat droid than a probot, not some monstrous lvl 70 droid. That is going to take a bit more time to figure out howto implement it in the current skill design.
A good interim is what they are planning to do instead. Utility droids, with the lower level combat droids first, The higher level droids will come once they figure out a good balance of skill points needed and where to place them in the skill trees. I just hope they don't push the higher lvl combat droid issue aside for 6 months again. They need to come up with a viable plan that makes it workable fairly quickly after the utlity droids and low level combat droids come out.
I wouldn't celebrate to soon. Thunders last post sounded quite ominus.

To recap yesterday, we had a long meeting and really got into the details and we left the meeting with the mandate, "think about the deetails and we'll decide tomorrow". So we're going to be meeting again today.

Ahh, but thats just it. The DE's never said they wanted level 70 droids...people in the rest of the community did. There is a demand for high end combat droids, a very big demand. Most of this game is geared for combat, so it follows suit that much of the demand would reflect that. Utility is great, and many want that. But if you polled outside the DE community, you may be surprised at what you find.
