According to TH's latest post, they have decided not to do a "Droid Commander" profession, they have decided to scale back on the idea of "Combat Droids" and introduce more "Utility Droids".......I think we just won.

we've given pause, but if they dont find another solution, im sure they will add the profession rather than not adding the droids.

still its a good day for Droid Engineers. We've been heard, and thats really all we could of ever asked for.

I think TH's post is DEFINATELY a step in the right direction. We will have to wait and see what unfolds...

We win, and yet somehow we end up losing again.

I think combat droids are pretty much a must, and from the sound of some of Thunderheart's latest posts, we could lose out on combat droids altogether. We either need a good system for distribution of droids that aren't "for free", as Thunderheart feels it is, or fudge it all and say just give us all the combat droids above CL10, and then there are only the same balance issues as there is for CH.

I think our demands are pretty high now, having been ignored for so long. We want DE to be worth something. We also want to play DE in a variety of ways. Right now though the major game story lines and everything require combat and a DE has no place in it at the moment. Most every profession contributes in some way or another (with a few exceptions). That being said, building droidsdoesn't really matter to this game at all, and unless we either become integral to the game, or able to participate actively in it, what really is the point to be playing at all?

At the moment I'm looking for an excuse to leave. I consider myself and employee of SOE in the sense that I work tomake droids for the people who have fun playing the game. Either the droid patch is great, or I'm going to save myself the money and time.

Shouldn't we be concerned that a single thread in the 'In Development' Forum achieved what hundreds of threads over month in here couldn't do?

Maybe we should shift all discussion towards there...

I don't know if preventing ready-to-go combat droids from getting into the game counts as winning to the customers who've been waiting for them in whatever form with whatever cert or profession system.

This is exactly the problem. They had combat droids in process with some of the major things done (art, etc.) but they didn't know how they were going to implement them in the game. The debate would have gone on and on, with DE's getting nothing in the meantime. Now they're working on adding utility (something that nobody argued against) and the lower level combat droids they were working on. DE's will get something in the meantime and combat droids down the road, when they actually come up with a workable solution to get them in the game without hurting the balance.

I suppose that is the gist of my argument -- it didn't really matter to me whether DEs got anything at all.

I just know what the customers were excited about and what they wanted to see, and I wanted that for them. So that saddens me a bit.

Not that I'm displeased to hear about utility droids -- people are going to love those! And there have been some great ideas put forward. I mean, some seriously cool stuff. They put together a decent survey droid and the game will instantly get 20% more fun to play.

Depends on what you mean by "win".

If anything, the Devs have finally heard the community loud and clear, as evident in this quote from the referenced TH post:

"all of the player proposals out there, they basically say, "I want really powerful droids for free". That approach is never going to get approved."

What you're looking at is a delay until the devs can revise their own ideas. It's a smart move. Focusing on utility is the right move, but it only delays the inevitable. Combat droids will come eventually, and likely a DH class will preceed it. They just have to find a way to modify their ideas so that a DE community that wants "really powerful droids for free" will find them acceptable.

I agree with Lancer. This is more a stalemate. Yeah we get utility droids. But we lose what's on everyone's list right now: COMBAT DROIDS. Their solution: don't put them out. So it's not a win to me. A victory would have been getitng the Combat Droids without the Droid Handler.
