Thread: any MDE's actually use the lvl 6 modules? or just double up on the 4's?
I think they are leaving the exploit in because they just don't understand the implications, and are quite frankly out of their depth with regard to droid functionality.
If and when a major revamping of the system is done, I'm sure this will be gone, but I'm far less certain that existing droids will be broken by it. I doubt very much that a tamed droid 'remembers' how it was crafted, only that it has X, Y and Z capabilities.
I use the highest quality materials that I can in every droid I make. I use the highest level modules as possible as well (no lidium ore on Starsider).
I have an armorcrafter friend who I traded a ton of free slicing (I used to be a master smuggler) for composite segments so I can make Armor 6 (I ended up with close to 750 segments, that's a lot of droids). Every droid I make comes with armor 6, all modules except data & storage are level 6. I only make advanced models as well. My customers know they're getting the best possible droid I can make everytime I make one. I have a brisk business as a result.
I am not fond of the nesting modules bug (I'm undecided if it's an exploit or merely a bug) so I refuse to do it.
I definitely use the L6 modules for several reasons.
First, it keeps the number of items (factory crates) in my house down.
Second, I do not put sockets into non-socket slots. I feel that this is a bug that will one day be closeed, and don't want droids that I have sold to get nerfed when they fix this.

So if it is such a horrid exploit they'd be all over it like flies on poo...
This is untrue. We see bugs and exploits all the time that go unfixed for prolonged periods of time, not just in SWG but in other MMPORPGs, especially at release.
The first priority of the devs is to fix game breaking bugs. This includes bugs that allow someone to create a brand new character and hit Master in a single day and earn several million credits (without any help), item duping, bugs that trash characters and/or equipment and items, and things of that nature.
After that the devs usually have to divide their time between fixing lesser bugs and exploits, again in order of priority, and in providing new content. I know lots of people want to demand that all bugs be fixed first and everything be perfectly balanced before new content is added but that just isn't going to happen, nor do I really think anyone truly wants it to happen. Instead people just want more emphasis on bug fixing than new content generation (especially when there are lots of bugs).
Fixing cluster modules is probably a low priority bug. It is more annoying and frustrating to DE's than game breaking (since caps still prevent droid abilities from becoming outrageous such as building a droid with a medical rating of 2200) and probably ranks below exploits like allowing someone to wear their faction armor or call their AT-ST while being undeclared.
Just because it hasn't been fixed doesn't mean it isn't a bug or exploit. There have been lots of well thought out posts as to why placing cluster sockets in general socket slots is a bug (one argument, in fact, centers around the idea that allowing cluster sockets to be used that way seriously undermines the functionality of level 6 modules). I haven't really seen anything I have thought was well thought out to refute these.
I have never made a Medical Module or Storage module past Level 4 because the specificRESOURCES HAVE NEVER SPAWNED!
Sorry, but stacking is the only option available to me. I would have no problem making Level 6 items. I make level 6 armor and data units, but only because I actually have that material.

You could do this without using the exploit on an Adv. R2 anyways. You can stick 2 Lvl4 Medicaland a Crafting Station in the Cluster, then stick 2 Lvl4 Storage in the Droid. Adv. R2 hold 5 Modules (all together). Am I getting my info mixed up here? A Adv. R2 holds 1 Socket Cluster plus 2 Modules right?
And don't 2 Lvl3's get you max Storage or Medical anyways?

You are correct on the adv R2's.
Adv R3's hold 2 clusters.
Most of the non-BH and non-probot droids are adv R2's and adv R3's.
The problem with the advanced R3's is the dual factory made droid brains... that is a lot of GP's and EMM's for one droid - but then, I make the advanced droid brains in my factories anyway, so no biggie.
I use lvl 6 whenever possible and never nest clusters. The only thing holding me up is that i haven't gotten the chance to pick up composite segments and the resources i need (lidium extrusive and duralumin aluminum) never seem to spawn.
I'm hoping to change this all soon though, just picked up a buttload of lidium and i'm hoping to grab some duralumin when i get home.
As to quality, i dont' worry about it too much. I do take the time to experiment on some of the modules and I would definitely experiment on crafting stations, but i don't worry too much since the difference in the end product is negligible.
I could just as easily make the claim about putting a Medical 6, Data 6, Storage 6, Repair, and Weapon Crafting module into an Advanced R2 (or even an Advanced R3). You simply won't get all the abilities without using the cluster exploit (in the case of the Advanced R3 you could get one of Data, Storage, or Items to function as if it were level 6, but the other two would not).
I know you said basic R2 - but there is a reason I don't make those, and that is that they can't take all the modules I want to put in them w/o using clusters where I don't want to.
Not flaming, just the question was asked how do others do it - and am providing the answer on how I do ![]()
well i've had this theroy about why they havent fixed the cluster module bug for awhile. you see, DEs are so broken and worthless that the exploit doens't make any real difference. it's really quiet sad.
