Thread: How combat droids will effectively sign the death warrant for DE
/cheer
Driod Handler > the CH i just gave up to become a DE.
I hope hope hope my rancor is replaced by a driodika. Sorry to all the crafters, looks like i may just keep my pistol skills.

We are artisans. Not a combat class. I picked DE because I want to sell droids. I would like to use them, yes. But, I do not want to be so selfish that only a Master droid engineer can use them.
If you want to do something like that. Do NOT make the combat droid the exclusive droid for the Droid Engineer. That is the best way to get an over balancing effect on the Skill Tree for Droid Engineers.
I make decent money as it is. I am just looking for Droid Decas as another combat droid to SELL. And for the rest of the droids to be fixed. That is all I am asking for and I am sure many are agreeing with me on this. I think the rest of you are going too far. Stick to being an artisan class. Please. Do not give the devs the false impression that we want to change to a combat/artisan class. It will do nothing but cause serious headaches. Imagine the way ALL prices will plummet. Combat and utility droids alike will become dirt cheap.
It is a big mistake. A big one to give DEs an exclusive combat droid.
Mabinogi, re-read it. It says:
"Combat droids. We want to add Droid Modules that will convert many droids and give them combat abilities. ONLY Droid Engineers will be able to make and use these modules."
"make and use" ... which means "combat modules (and therefore combat droids) will be DE exclusive"
I expect that the two current "combat droids" (DZ70 and probot) will also be re-worked so that they now use these new "combat modules" which means even the current "combat droids" would be DE exclusive as well. BIG mistake.
Talmor1, I agree with you 100%
Weaponsmith doesn't allow a Weaponsmith to use the gunshe creates. Bio Engineer doesn't allow the Bio Engineer to use the high-level (combat) pets he creates. Why should a Droid Engineer be able to exclusively use combat droids? It not only makes DE a combat profession, but makes it unbalanced to compared to every crafting profession AND current combat professions.
In no way should learning Droid Engineer skills allow you to attempt to equal a Commando. Thats what your remaining skill points are for.
"Combat droids. We want to add Droid Modules that will convert many droids and give them combat abilities. ONLY Droid Engineers will be able to make and use these modules."
See, my point was that they said only DEs could make and use the modules. When making a droid, you make the module, then you use that module in the construction of the droid. That was how I read it. I think both of these arguments are validuntil wehave clarification. My biggest gripe about the "Plan" was how poorly it was written. Nearly every sentence left me with the question "What did they mean by that?"
In the meantime, I can see your point very clearly regarding the future state of DE, as long as it turns out to be the case that combat droids are DE only. I can only hope you are wrong, and I don't mean any offense or disrespect.
When I first read that in the plan, I thought only DE's could use the combat droids... but after re-reading it, I think they meant it in the same fashion as saying, "Only DE's can make and use Droid Customization Kits".
We can make them, and it takesDE's to add them to an existing droid. It's not like a weapon upgrade kit where anyone can just drag-drop them onto their weapon. It takes a DE to install them on an existing droid. I am 95% certain that is what they meant. Of course, that does leave 5%.
I just hope they put these at master, then we would have nothing, or at least, much less to worry about.
1. Noobs would be discoraged by the grind
2. No one would sacrifice the skill points
3. The only one's that would benifit would be true droid engineers, who deserve something to make up for the months of neglect.
Chance are these droids won't be anything spectacular anyways. Exspecially since they're only adding modules not new chassis
Come on,
I thought this post was a joke.
Do you really think that everyone will want to Grind out those MSE droids. It takes alot to become a master DE and to do it just for a Droideka is insane.
Besides, DEs make Bounty Hunter droids that work very well. As a goal, I would like to be the best Seeker and DZ droid maker possible wich requires a Masters in DE. Those will sell, they always do.
Combat droids just make the life of a DE more interesting and it allows me to survive when I am alone on LOK searching for Materials.
/sigh...
because some people never want to do more than make and sell droids...
none of us should have the option of being adventurers ![]()
Droid-Creator, what part of "Droid Engineer" includes "Adventerer", "Combatant", "Squad Leader", "Master of the Universe", "George Lucas' Mom"?
If, as a DE, you want to be a combatant... use your remaing skill points to learn a combatant profession. You have more than enough.
If you want to be an adventerer, there is enough remaining skill points to learn some scout AND some weapon skills.
No one profession should allow you to do multiple play-styles. Not even Combat Medic allows this, since the healing side of "Combat Medic" you already gained from the "Medic" profession.
There is NOTHING stopping a Droid Engineer from gaining combat skills right now so you have no argument.
Just imagine if Armour could only be used by Armoursmiths. As an armoursmith, would you like that idea? Imagine how many players that consider armour an "important part of their game play". Those players would then be FORCED to gain armoursmith abilities so that they can wear armour. Of course, now they have abilities to build their OWN armour .. so why pay someone else to do it, when you can make it yourself for a cheaper price. Sure, may not be as good.. but its a far better feeling to know you are wearing something YOU built and not someone elses handy work. But hold up! You've been an armoursmith for over 4 months now. You put a LOT of time and effort into becoming a Master Armoursmith. You've put a lot of time and money into building a shop and to increasing your skills as a businessman. You enjoy standing in cities selling the seads of your labour. But now you are being told that no one wants to buy your armour anymore because;
a) They can make their own
b) They refuse to buy armour because they dissagree with the new change
c) The refuse to buy your armour because some n00b armoursmith that is ONLY an armoursmith so he can wear it, is selling his for a cheaper price.
Now tell me that armoursmiths would not have a serious problem with that.
Just wanted to add my 2 credits.
Let's not begintaking every single word and sentence as gospel. The DEVs are just explaining their brainstorming ideas. This is probably the reason they rarely let us in on their ideas. Good grief, thereis already a cult group of people quoting obscure phrases from the manual in the Jedi forums.
Combat droids"may" be limited to DEs (which I doubt very much). Right now, don't worry about it. Be happy they are thinking of us. This gives me hope and reason to keep climbing the armor module skill tree. Believe me, motivation is needed.
