Thread: How combat droids will effectively sign the death warrant for DE
So, you wanted combat droids? Well, it appears you will be getting just what you wanted.
Did you want DE to be a viable crafting profession, allowing you to build and sell droids? Well, it appears due to all the people that wanted combat droids, you WON'T be getting what you wanted.
Thanks to all the people screaming "Droideka" Droid Engineer is going to be ruined for the rest of us.
Think what will happen when combat droids are added. Everyone is going to want one. But... we have already been told that combat droids will be exclusive to DE's. So what will happen now? Everyone will start taking DE skills. What will this produce? Everyone will be able to build their OWN droids.
There will no longer be a market. There will no longer be a reason to build droids unless you plan on using them yourself.
"Droid Engineer" will just become "Droid Handler"
Are you happy with yourself? Are you happy that you have turned this great profession into the profession people here hate most.
Thanks for ruining the only decent part of Star Wars Galaxies.
Funny, i thought everyone went commando, BH, or CH. Yet i see a bit of everything out there. Who cares if we become flavor of the month. I don't have to sell droids as a Master DE to make money. There's lots of stuff i can do. Besides, there will always be customers.
I think you might be over reacting
at least I hope you are (personally I'm not painting it as black as you are)
"How powerful will these droids be? Who can use them? How rare will the required mineral/chemical/etc materials be? Will certifications be required? Can the droid's HAM be healed as easily as p0kemon pet? Will additional components from other professions be required to craft them?"
If the answers to the above questions mean only a Master DE can craft and use a droideka, then the prospect of what you're fearing is nill. The DE grind alone will discourage that
Besides, I have seen no evidence of there being useful combat droids. A blaster module shoved into an R2 does not a viable combat droid make. Have I missed something?
Much as though I hate to admit it... I think the original posters prediction is right.
DroidEngineer = Droid Handler.
Personally, I thought the concept of an MSE "bomb" was a childish joke. I am horrified by the intellect that conceived the idea.
DE was one of the professions that I had the highest hopes for. The idea of DE's producting and selling droids for every purpose in the game: medical droids, harvester droids, factory droids, combat droids... taking the manual labour out of everything was just awesome. It was the very essence of "Star Wars".
Now I see the devs interpretation of droids is "just another combat class". Only this one happens to use gadgets and gizmos to kill with.
When I read the dev plan for DE I honestly thought it was a joke.
I can't believe such a state of disconnect exists between the players and the developers of the DE profession. It's truly amazing.
isn't this the slippery slope fallacy?
Im not really worried about it considering how long it will take to make these changes. I do agree the MSE bomb kind of sounds dumb and it didnt sound like they were going to put out new driods just changes in the current driods. Thats just what I read from it, before I go off the deep end on current bugs (IE experimentation) not being mentioned I guess all I can do is wait and see.
There are those that will jump on whatever is popular. But once they fix, say Commando... then those people will move there. Who cares.
"Oh wait, now Master Armorsmiths can make Mandalorian Armor"... everyone becomes an Armorsmith.
"Oh wait, only Master Bounty Hunters can wear it"... everyone becomes a Bounty Hunter.
Stick with what you love...
There are three main issues this creates. They are as follows;
- It will create a HUGE influx of new DE's. This, in turn, will not only reduce the market current DEs have to sell, but will also likely form a new "money crisis" amoungst DE as n00b DEs who arnt really interested in the crafting side of DE sell off their products cheaply to try and make money out of their grind to hit whatever combat droid they are after. This is the issue I am most concerned about. It can potentialy kill off the entire DE market. Its already hard to sell droids for more than 15k as it is ... why should we have to sell for less?
- Imagine how many players will ask you to build them a Droideka, and you reply "I'm sorry. Only a Droid Engineer can have and use combat droids" ... as if we don't already have enough things to convince the buyer they don't want to buy a droid from us.
- DE becomes the new CH and becomes equally as hated ... this makes selling droids harder, and forces the DE to reduce prices (yet again).
I'd just like to point out: a Power Droid requires a Power Core. A Power Core can only be crafted by an architect. On Starsider, the standard price architects are selling power core's for are 8k. That means, before you've even begun to construct the Power Droid, its already cost the DE 8k. Add to that the prices of resources and then the possibility of the droid getting a crit failure (and having to buy a second power core) a Power Droid alone could easily fetch around 15k in costs.... Imagine trying to sell that droid in a universe well 60% of players are atleast novice DE, the reamining 40 either dont want a droid or already have one.
I began to write "of course combat droids will be sellable to Joe Public.." but then I stopped
I remembered the fevered brains who came up with exploding MSE's
I then realised almost anything is possible, including DE only droids.
Abandon all hope? Not while Sintrosi still breathes.
