Thread: Droid Assembly Skill Tapes

Sorry, didn't see the 10k price post. You must have replied while I was typing. 10k is definitely not bad. But consider that people are normally charging 10 times that or more for any skill tape with high numbers on it, just because it has a high number and they know SOMEONE will want it eventually.

And yes, I'm having problems with my profession. All of the BH's are buying their seekers and arakyds from their PA members for cheaper, medics are buying from the master DE's because they're better, no one wants an R4 chassis when they can go to a near-master to buy their buddies R2 and 3PO for their house. On top of that, all of my money is going towards grinding up to the point where I CAN make the stuff people want. I just recently got to the adv probot level, but I can only do level 2 armor, so they just keep walking until they can find a master to do the best one.

All I gotta say is: Darned power gamers for taking away from the usefulness of the more casual players.

Now come on you can't blame us because of your lack of business. Just because we've mastered the profession? I'm not saying it is, but maybe you don't advertise well, have a bad reputation of some type (deserved or undeserved), maybe prices are messed up or you're not personable? I don't know, all I know is sure the bulk of my stuff I sell is probots with lvl 6 armor or Surgis with food/chem and 110 med raiting. but MOST (60-80%) of my custom orders are all R5-R4s or DZ70s (yeah I sell alot of these hehe, it's all in the marketing). I get the ocasional R2 and a few R3s (I don't like making them so my price for R3s are fairly high) Maybe you should try thinking outside the box to get customers to you. I won't give you any ideas because they might backfire on me

I've got one for Droid Assembly -1. Needless to say, I haven't used it.

Here's my key to most of my success. I keep a list of everyone who buys a droid from me (started when I sold MSE medic, mission, and storage droids back in the day). I keep all these names in a simple notepad file, in the correct format to be copy and pasted into an to: field (you can't add them by hand, it caps you on space if you don't copy and paste pretty quick). Then every time I get new skills, or something changes with the DE profession in regard to my services I send them all an email (with a friendly disclaimer that if they don't want to get the emails anymore to let me know). This helps my customers remember who they got the droid from as well as lets them know what's up at the time. The one thing this does entail is you get more questions about droids. As long as you are willing to help people and answer any questions you can you will usually not only get return customers but also start getting refferals and word of mouth advertising. I think I've got about 250 (haven't checked in a while, so maybe around 300 ) people on my list now, and I get most of my sales from referrals and return customers anymore. I don't stock a vendor (ather than with batteries) and I don't advertise much anymore (other than for customization).

Another thing you can do is find a MDE that is willing to make modules for you (or even better, a non-master that can make them). They need the xp, and they'll still make money off it and you can supply your customers with what they want. It is difficult to find one willing to do this but usually if you find someone who doesn't really do business on your planet you can work something out.

Keep in mind before shelling out 100k for a skill tape that Master DEs will have the max 100 in assembly and experimentation in a week or two when the TC changes are pushed live.

Says the man who bid 70k on just such a tape before I out-bid him.

It's worth 100k to me for 2 weeks of reduced crit failures. If it saves me 5 failures during that time (which it will easily do if it reduces my crit failures by even 10%) then it will have paid for itself. Besides, 100k isn't really all that much money anymore what with the game's economy suffering from hyper-inflation.

I wrote that just for you. 70k is reasonable, but 100k makes you out of your mind.

And to respond to an earlier post, I'm pretty sure that assembly and exp. DO cap at 100. I'm a master artisan with a tape for +4 artisan assembly, and I'm fairly sure my stats list as: Artisan Assembly +100 (100) in the skill boxes.

The cap is at least at 125. I've seen several WS/AS posts in the respective forums about it. In addition, human artisans have 110 points. I've seen reported posts of people with mods to 140, but they didn't say how many experimentation points they got.

Interesting. I wonder if the caps depend on your species or not. I'll have to check this in game, if it holds true, I may have to outbid Kollos.

I was given a DE tape by a friend... I always thought that it needed to be used like an ingredient on clothing or something... do we just need it in our inventory for it to be activated?

Hmm... if 100k makes me out of my mind, what does 110k make you?

All in good fun.

Drag the tape over to the clothing piece that has available sockets. It'll merge into it and give the clothing the bonus.

just watch out, right now if you have 2 of the same mod in a piece of clothing it will only take the higher of the two, so don't try a +3 anda +2 in the same piece of clothing.

Call me stupid, but where are these tapes coming from? This is the first I have heard of these things. Is it something people make, or are they found as loot on something ?
