There is mention of a Sidekick system with the expansion, maybe Droids may play into that somehow.

I hope you guys do get a much needed revamp because droids should be a GIANT part of the SW universe and i really want to have reasons to use them.


The smuggler in me says " I believe it will happen when it happens" SOE are very good at promising and not delivering just to keep people paying for a little bit longer.

Hi


I dont think that the profession itself needs a revamp, just the droids themselves. I like the way the profession itself is with the modular system for building droids, enables me to make droids to a customers specification and not just do factory runs like AS and WS do for example.


What we need though is for a rationalisation of the modules we have, get rid of useless ones like the harvester maintenance ones, and introduce *working* useful ones like the suggestion made for language translation.


Make astromechs able to repair your ship, make experimentation actually worthwhile ... you get the picture. Oh, and add some form of decay in for repeat business.


What I dont want is the DE Profession pigeon-holed into making BH and combat droids only and lose the fun of custom sales etc

I agree with Yiddo -


The usefulness of the day to day droid use could be improved upon, not nessecarily the way we put them together and customize them for the individual customer. More versatility would be nice as well, look at all that R2-D2 was able to do, especially in the latest movie! (thought it was great that droids could "leap" from the ships!).

Heh, they could lock alot of doors and then require an R2 unit to open the doors. Thats a good way to make droids more popular.

I'm all for a re-vamp that continues to add functionality to droids (they have already been greatly improved since launch), but I shudder to think of them adding in "combat droids" or any other disposable, mass-produced, grind and sell-by-the-crate droids.


We need to hold onto what it is that makes DE the most enjoyable crafting experience in SWG, and not give in to the lure of constant credits. Be careful what you wish for...it may turn out to belike all those other crafting professions. (you know, the ones we DE's don't want to play...there's areason.)


Let's hope for:


More Module functionality - We already have some good uses formany professions, so let's expand on that to include as many of the other professions as possible. Just think creatively about it, and I'm sure you can come up with a useful droid for fighters that doesn't include being a robo-killer.


More chassis models - Pit droids,FX-7, etc. (oh, and fix the ones we got already, too, while you're at it - still can't name my protocol)


I'd love to see some quests added in that somehow REQUIRES a droid to complete it. (and not combat-centric as EVERY other quest in this game seems to be)


For now, we can only hope that the time will come for us to have some input into what the future holds for Droid Engineers across the galaxy.

That's my biggest concern. I really hope Jenden can talk to them about it. I worry that somebody in a dark corner may be working on it now, and by the time we see or hear anything about it, it will be to late for any big changes. I also agree the whole profession doesn't need a total revamp, just modules and functionality.


I really hope they come and talk to us before anything is coded at all.

- Droid engineers will be revamped. SOE envisions the droid as something every player would have as a companion in the game. In the movies the droids play an essential role, and they should do too in the game.


Smugglers and good droids, that's what this game is missing.




Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but a RED name told us Smugglers that no profession will ever get a "revamp" Too much time spent on one profession... But they managed to add the Jedi Defender, Sabers, Powers, Healing, ect..... Um....yeah.

Well, I guess I won't be making any factory runs of droids again until after this revamp. I'd hate to see any more huge batched of droids and a ton of my time wasted when they get changed again. (Like my probot medbots who now run like hellat the slightest sniff of blaster fire)

I'll believe it when I see it on TC. And you can be sure that they wont listen to us either. They will "hear" us, but not listen. One thing that is resolving itself in my eyes is the Devs are about 6 months behind the current game when it comes to implementatino of new features. So, whatever we were talking about 6 months ago (sadly, and yet luckily its almost exactly the same) is what they will be working on. Well, not really. They will be working on what they *think* we were talking about 6 months ago. Thats a whole 'nother story.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?
