Thread: Another DE Revamp
Droid Engineer
-------------------
- Droid engineers will be revamped. SOE envisions the droid as something every player would have as a companion in the game. In the movies the droids play an essential role, and they should do too in the game.

I like this idea they have here. Droids should really play a more essential role. I'm hoping for some good combat droids.
I believe! And I can't wait! They're aware of the problem, and they WILL fix it!
Remember the Droid Engineer motto: "Never give up! Never surrender!"
Well, its vague, but at least its a light at the end of the tunnel. At a minimum they see droids as we do, essential to everyday life for the common humanoids of the galaxy.
They could have specifically mentioned Droidekas for Sodan, but whatever. ;D

Hmmmm so should we start predictions?
Let's see, we will need named Irons and every other resource, the stats that matter will be Unit Toughness and Heat Resistence. That way all the resources we have stockpiled will be useless! lol.
I really really really hope they take our inputs for this revamp and don't wing it, like they did with JTL and the latest combat changes.
A problem with a droid revamp is that as SWG becomes more and more combat-centric, the role of droids becomes more in conflict with the players themselves. SBDs and Droidekas are not in the Ep IV-VI time period for good reasons, which Lucas himself refers to in the director's commentary of Ep I. So lots of combat droids presents difficulties from both immersion and gameplay perpectives.
Droids need to be useful to the degree that every player wants one or actually needs one. A good example of how this could be done is a revision of hte language system, so that protocol droids become a near necessity for advanced players in the game. Limiting the number of languages that anyone can comprehend or speak at any one time will make protocol droids a necessity. New players could have the MSE droid handed to them by the newbie quests able to translate one or two languages at a time for them, but advanced protocol droids could provide universal translation capabilities.
BLLs could actually have a function, like be able to retrieve resources from harvesters, taking away a lot of tedious chores from players that are not that much fun, but are necessary for the functioning of the player economy. Droids are there to do these things, it's their purpose.
