Thread: Why did YOU choose to become a DE?
I've always loved tech stuff and sci-fi - ST, SW, etc.
I got this game both because it was Star Wars and it was sci-fi.
Played UO for about 5 or 6 years. Talk about make believe role playing.
Besidesbasic skills, collidable objects, and the ability to physically stack items, the decorating abilities were very limited. Yet people figured out ways to make some pretty amazing things in their houses.
I've always liked robots and droids and I wanted to build them, and use them, and make them for other people.
There was an SW Droid Factory toy set, and a PC game. And I used to haveboth of them.
I want to being a crafter and make something that is:
1) In high demand
2) Has a reasonable turnover rate
3) I can get rich selling.
Ok, that still doesn’t explain why I chose DE.
But I saw the proposed changes in the upcoming droid invasion. I decided to take a chance that it would become a viable profession and grind it out. I am not a M DE yet, but I am a MA and a M Arch. I should be a M DE by the time of the droid invasion. I hope it will have been worth it.
because I thought SW was synonumous with driods, how could I go wrong.
In retrospect I find the only word that makes the most sense to me in this sentance is wrong. However that could just be my poor grammar and spelling kicking in.
I chose DE because I like having pets in RPG's and MMORPG's, so I ground my way to become a Creature Handler and a Droid Engineer. In EverQuest, my main character was a Druid, but I also played around with Necromancers, Enchanters, and even tried a Magician just to check out all the different types of pets. And in Morrowind, every character I make has the conjuration skill as at least a minor skill.
I originally wanted Droid Engineer because I wanted to have combat droids, as well as creature pets, to do my combat for me. Master those 2 skills, and I could use the rest of my points in Musician or something else.
BUT after actually getting into Droid Engineering, and seeing all the different stuff we were -supposed- to be able to do, I stuck with the class overall, because I liked being able to make all of the different useful droids as well. Right now, my favorite droid (and you could say my own little "trademark" droid, just like Luke had R2D2 and C3PO, and Han Solo had his buddy Chewbacca) is my WED Treadwell Droid with a Weapon / Droid / Generic crafting station, and a level 3 item storage module. Wherever I go, I have my little droid, Fusion-III (He is the 3rd in my line of Fusion droids) following my around, unless of course I am going out hunting, then I have my little DZ70 droid Flux-II (2nd in my line of DZ70 droids).
Maybe this is why I am so much against any kind of certification system, or the Droid Handler profession, because I want to be the pet master, so to speak. I already have Creature Handler for my really powerful pets, I don't want my droids to be super powerful as well... mainly just decent support for my creatures. And I also feel that a droid is something that -everyone- should be able to use. I guess I'm in the group of people that want Droid Engineers to be a crafting / combat hybrid, although I don't want Droid Engineers to be able to be on par with pure combat professions on their own.
But I guess that's not what this thread was about...
I choose to be a DE because Starwars is about two droids and nothing more. The jedis are their to make the droids look good.
And someones got to make those droids.
But really, I choose DE because I was hoping this elite profession would get some of the spot light soon or sometime before the space expansion is out.The only other profession Iwould wantto be is a ship builder/grease monkeybut they have not said if that will be a playable profession yet and if it is it willprobably as messed up as us DEs.
I just hope to have enough creds to own my own personal ship and its not expensive to run around in and was hoping to be able to craft my own droid(s) to repair/navigate it (Astromechs/R2s).
I thought that droid engineer would have a fully immersed function within SWG. In the movies droids are a partof everything from combat, repairs, space flight, to serving food lines. I loved the whole concept to build droids. I had envisioned a shop where I could log into a work station and my whole screen would change and here I was looking at a computer screen where I could program my droid. Where I could design it. I could have other droids weld my droid together while I was crafting it. I had envisioned a machien that would lift teh dropid parts and put them in my melting pot so that I could recycle my droids steel. Most of all I thought droids would be able to fight and everyone would want a droid for this reason.
I thought that DE would be a vital partof the economy and that everyone would be dependent on droids. I had envisoned walking through a city with 10 droids that each performed a unique ability. But I have relised that games today are not the games of the future. Humansexpectationsfor a game has surpassed the abilities of what a human can design in our time.
A Droid Engineer to me is a gamer who is seeking the future. Right now we are 20-30 years ahead of our time in our thought process while todays technology is lagging and only making adavances in security detection.
