I am also into robotics as a hobby.. and I can tell all you guys, I can most certainly use the robots I make just as well as anyone else (in fact, you might say I am the only one who can figure out how to make them do what I want!).

So, I joined DE profession to make and use my own droids.. I have made myself crafting droids, I've made a few probots to help me with combat, and my house on naboo is filled with every chassis I can make.. just like my house would be if I were a real self sufficient robot builder =).

I occaisionally sell droids to others, but that's not the focus of why I joined DE.. I just like making and using droids.. nothing more.. and I was a bit dissappointed when I started out and was told that it was a worthless profession.. but I went and mastered it anyway, and now I'm glad I did..

But if I'm not in it for selling to others, then it seems that in a game based around contributing to a group it's a bit of a useless profession really.. which is why I was excited to hear about the possibility of combat droids (worthy of the name.. Iuse my probots tho!).. Droidekas!! is what I thought..

Sadly, now it looks like I will have to take 3 master professions to use and make combat droids.. which I will do, because that's the way I want to play the game... sad that I will only be able to contribute to a group with a droid while others get to do a few different things.. but it seems that too many DE's don't want to do more than craft and sell..

And even if these changes do go ahead.. 6 months+ before I even begin to see the changes??? I think I'll go do something else for a while =(

Initially I wanted to go for Tailor or Weaponsmith but then the PA I joined had plenty of those already. I was told they need a DE, went to the boards, saw that it wascrap and bugged and joined the club. Guess I am an elitist grumbler and moaner

Three reasons,

I enjoy playing around with droids (thats playing around with building them and trying out different combos, not necessarily using them)

I like playing my character as a business type person (any crafting profession would work here, but it does narrow it down)

I love seeing people enjoy the droids I make. Every day I get people sending me tells or emails telling me they love the droid, or its just what they needed, I just don't see that happening all that often with most of the other crafting professions.
