Thunderheart,

I think you are writing off the cert system too soon.

This isn't up to me. Im not making the decision.

I dont know what decision the dev team will make but I have told them that the community:

  • Clearly doesnt like the idea of a DH profession

  • Prefers the idea of Droid Certifications

The problem with Droid Certs is that it would raise the combat bar and there would have to be a lot of rule changes. I'm working with the team now to pull together some information on all the problems a cert system would bring. Either myself or Runsabre will post on it today.

There is little DE content at this time - we still don't have droids for entertainers, smugglers, and other advanced support uses, and adding a new DH class anytime before the space expansion is going to doom our profession to being nothing more than it was at launch. New combat droids are going to be negated by the hardship of only selling to one class - the cost/benefit just isn't going to be worth it for most DEs.

I think many of us said, and I still agree - save the DH class for the Space Expansion. There simply isn't enough content in DE as it is - give us a couple of decent combat droids (hell, I'd be happy with a beefier Probot and a droideka that only masters of a profession can use) and then work on filling in the other holes in our profession.

You know we want smuggler droids, you know we want entertainer droids, you know we want droids to help with surveying and mining - combat droids is but ONE of the things we need to be a fully-fleshed out profession. Ripping that one thing out and desiging a whole other profession around is absurd at this point.

Well said. /agree

This is true, and obviously you are referring to scattering certs for combat droids throughout the other professions, not utility droids.

Certs for Utility Droids would be fine, and in fact should be matched to the appropriate professions for which the utility is designed.

But I agree, Certs for Combat Droids scattered throughout the existing professions will imbalance combat across the boards, UNLESS additional skill points are required to be spent to attain those certifications.

TH, could you post a formal proposal fora DH class? What skills it has, what prereqs it has, that sort of thing? If it is good, perhaps it will be a bit easier for us to accept.

/sigh TH, not everyone is against the DH Profession. But I understand why you had to say it. What I dont understand if my fellow DE's. They are not making sense.

Its amazing how things have changed, first we wanted Combat Droids, now suddenly we are content with uselesslvl 10 droids for the rest of the game.

How about you pull together some information about how and in what manner it is possible for DROID ENGINEERS to use DROIDS?

Why didnt anyone tell me when I bought this game 6 months ago for the sole purpose of playing a droid engineer that I would NEVER be able to use a droideka as a DROID ENGINEER?

Aren't you making rule changes to the GCW and therefore to everything concerning combat in the next months anyway?

On a side note, I find it interesting (and very telling) that you have yet to apologize for either:

2) Aggregiously getting our desires so totally wrong, even in the face of what Drashk himself told you.

It's very clear to me now that you all don't listen. You have no interest in listening.

Well, I'd like to understand the change of heart.

Way back when, when I asked, DE's proclaimed that they were a "crafting professions" and not a "combat professions". Correspondent aside, this opinion was driven by post on this board. I see a big change of heart now.

What's your motivation?

This is an important thread. Off topic posts and rants will be deleted.

TH,

I think I know where the wires got crossed. The debate has always been over Droid Engineers being the handlers or not. We never wanted another profession created.

Still operating under the assumption that we want more powerful combat droids?

Let the Dev team know that a lot of us would be happy with an improved (but still sub-Probot) DZ70 and a couple of Probot variants. Push the CL up to 12, tops. We might even be happy with a lower CL than that... but the point is that most of us simply aren't asking for CL 30 droids.

What gave you guys the idea that we want powerful combat droids? The people asking for those are a pretty distinct (but vocal) minority here on the forums.

Give us new utility droids. Smuggler droids. Entertainer droids. Miner droids. Delivery droids. Why are you focusing on a small and largely unimportant (at this point in the Star Wars timeline) part of the Droid Engineer profession?

So, let me make sure I have the gist of what we are being told here...

1) There will be no cert system because it cannot work.

2) Skill pointsmust be spent to use droids over cl10.

3) The dev's want higher level combat droids in the game.

Therefore, we have two options...

a) A new droid handler profession to use the new droids.

b) The certifications rolled into the existing droid engineer class.

Is that about right or am I missing something?

Seems to me that if we are being offered options a or b I would have to vote for b.Our wish of cool droids for all will not be a reality no matter how many pages of arguments we make... if that is in fact the case dump this whole droid handler idea and give the de's the new droids. We want to be able to use our droids and we're already double masters (most are anyways). Droid engineer is a crafting class but if it is an option of not being able to use our droids or mastering ANOTHER droid class, I'd say just give them to the DE's and be done with it.

Course, that's just me... if I am mistaken please correct me.

New combat droids are going to be negated by the hardship of only selling to one class - the cost/benefit just isn't going to be worth it for most DEs.

The above is a good point, and a good argument for adding Certs for Utility Droids throughout the existing, appropriate professions.
