Thread: Please help me understand your change of heart.
Sadly this is probably the majority of DEs. We don't have the thousands of ranks of players that Bounty Hunter or Commando has because of how bad this profession is.
But perhaps you're right. Perhaps we're arguing with the wrong person here...

Aw man, the guy in my forum signature posted again and I missed it? Go ProGamerX!
HAHAHA.
You know, I was realizing he was a troll when his argument kept shifting from post to post - on this page he said he doesn't know what our problem was, when a) we've clearly stated, and b) on the last page he "detailed" exactly what our problem was, LOL.
Great .sig, now I will obey the "don't feed the trolls" sign. ![]()

There's two arguments at stake here. The first is that the general population does not want this change. we can say that is something that can't be disproven and can't be more obvious.
The second argument is the personal insult made against all of us. As I said, he knew all the facts, but said it anyway. Here's the proof (Sorry GnomeAD):

Personally, I don't thinkthe community willbe happy till both issues are resolved....
Wow, I love hearing my own voice
But perhaps you're right on that. I give Thunderheart one more day to make-good, then obviously the campaign will have to change course. Even on the forums, sometimes dreams can come true
But in the meantime, don't stop posting here. the more there is the more there is evidence discounting his actions.

You guys are sounding like Planet Side with Cert this, and Cert that. I just dont get it, whats the problem with a DH Profession that deals with heavy combat droids? Everyone else still gets to use the R2, MES, 3PO, and all the other multi-tasking droids. Why are you so against a Profession that deals with handling Heavy Droids in Combat?
The simple answer is that there simply isn't enough content to create an entire profession that revolves around calling droids and spamming 'a'.
However, the real problem is that who asked for heavy combat droids in the first place? Not Droid Engineers. The majority of us would rather have new utility droids than heavy combat droids. Sure, we'd like to see some new combat droids, but think more along the lines of making the DZ70 useful and giving us variants of the Probot. We didn't ask for heavy combat droids - the Devs decided we want them on their own. Yes, there were a few people who campaigned long and hard for uber combat droids, but their requests were routinely shot down as unreasonableby the majority.
Another simple answer to your question is that, as a whole, we just don't want a new profession that is dedicated to handling heavy combat droids. We didn't ask for it, so why is it being "given" to us?
LOL, I cant believe you put me in your Sig. Im sure the DH Profession will be alot like CH, special 1 and 2 type of thing. But thats not the point. People are over reacting, plain and simple. And yet still no one has really givin a reason why this hurts anything. True, its sad everyone can just whip out a Destroyer Droid like Jango Fett did to take on the Jedi, but how would you do that in a Video Game?
I want destroyer droids and if you keep this up, we will wont nothing but MES Droids with pistols.

The way I see it:
- SOE is a company.
- A company tries to maximize income and minimize costs.
- The guys on these forums are a minority. The majority of the player base is playing the game no matter what.
- Even the guys on these forums who are pissed off still play the game.
- You hire one community manager to keep the forum idiots at bay -> low cost.
- That manager fights a lost cause: he has to give the impression that the devs actually listen. His second function is to communicate the biggest bugs, so these can be fixed. Fix the big bugs -> people stay. (I should add: fix the big bugs of the professions with the most players).
Sideeffect: Low costs for finding the big bugs (one comm. manager payed, several forum idiots for free).
- Of course the devs DON´T listen: they know, what they can implement with the least amount of work while focussing on things like vehicles to get new players on board.
The only problem: some of us still believe in Santa Claus.
You can remove this post if you think its a "flame", it probably is. I don´t care.
This is literally the most accurate thing I have ever read on the Internet.
Sums my feelings up percisely.
I fear my days of believing in Santa Claus are finally coming to an end - I'm an optimistic cynic. That's a fine line.
But when I do cross the line into totalcynic, I'll know it's time to stop playing SWG.

Another good reason why I can't see DH working is simply the lack of droids to handle. I mean, CH has 100s of pets to choose from. How many combat droids are they planning on adding? I was figuring maybe 3 or 4. Six at the most! And I, for one, never expected them to be *uber*. Just better than what we got now. (which aint much!)
There aren't enough combat droids to fill an entire profession as well as not enough skills.

The whole TH thing? So, so what. Im not going to take you very serious anyway with your Sig, you seem to like to flame people so, tootles.

Ok, so what do we do then? Say good buy to Combat Droids? Or build level 10 Combat Droids for the rest of the game? Is that what you want?
To be honest, that would be better than adding a Droid Handler class and giving them the ability to call and control Droidekas.
This game is set during the time frame of The Empire Strikes Back. Droidekas were, at best, extremely rare. Personally I don't want to see them following every other player around like puppies. It's okay to have a few of them in various dungeons, but that's it.
Combat Droids are illegal at this point in the timeline. Anything much more powerful than the Probot just simply should not be allowed to be owned/controlled by a player character.
Fix Droid Engineer by adding more of the kinds of droids that DO exist at this point in the timeline. Give us a half dozen brand new utility droids that are USEFUL. Droids are supposed to make life easier and take care of menial tasks. *cough*tending harvesters*cough* Give us Droids that do that!

Exactly.
And this is one of the main reasons for not having another droid class - we barely have one as it is.
Bug fixes aside (which I'll believe when I actually see in-game - sorry, but I was told three times that item storage was fixed before it actually was), the droid engineer class is rather empty as it is.
Looking through the tree, you will see a great deal of parts - but we have only a handful of actual products to sell.
They are adding combat droids - this means more droids for us to sell. But if we are only selling to one class, that cuts that benefit by more than 30 times.
The situation will become much what the relationship between Master DEs and BH's are now - most master DE's could care less about BH droids when they make much more making real droids, and most of us leave them for the noobs to make. Some of us sell them by the crate, but more as favors than anything else.
If a DH profession is put into place, an entire class devoted to buying droids, we will not only limit our audience but also create a business monopoly that would be bad for all involved, and still be nothing more of a profession than we are now.
There is little DE content at this time - we still don't have droids for entertainers, smugglers, and other advanced support uses, and adding a new DH class anytime before the space expansion is going to doom our profession to being nothing more than it was at launch. New combat droids are going to be negated by the hardship of only selling to one class - the cost/benefit just isn't going to be worth it for most DEs.
I think many of us said, and I still agree - save the DH class for the Space Expansion. There simply isn't enough content in DE as it is - give us a couple of decent combat droids (hell, I'd be happy with a beefier Probot and a droideka that only masters of a profession can use) and then work on filling in the other holes in our profession.
You know we want smuggler droids, you know we want entertainer droids, you know we want droids to help with surveying and mining - combat droids is but ONE of the things we need to be a fully-fleshed out profession. Ripping that one thing out and desiging a whole other profession around is absurd at this point.
Save it for the space expansion - combine Droid Handling with some Starship Combat skill and you can have a "Mech Handler" profession.
It's just not the time now.
