Thread: The Infamous January Publish Quote...

Hihi... any chance we can just lock this thread? It's really a moot point to keep beating this horse. Of course it's disappointing to be told one thing and then have something different come to fruition. I can understand that frustration. I think everyone has experienced that in many areas of life.

Now JustG says they'll be focusing on droids next patch. And I expect they will. I think the layout of the forums and the development process is much better now to handle such a task (and don't kid yourselves... it IS quite a task!)

Now, now.... he's made a public announcement in response to his previous public announcement. If he fails us again, I'll unleash a torrent of Dev-Bashing the likes of which have never been seen before on the DE boards. And believe me, with my Academy Awards post under my belt, I can do it.

So for now, "everything is coming up roses"....and I'll relax a bit. Let's just wait to see if we really get roses or just more SOEfertilizer.

A snootty response is still a response, and that is a very good thing. Thanks JustG.

I have to wonder, though. I thought the whole idea of combat droidswas dead, as a result of overwhelming public opinion.Since you mention the inpending arrival of <10 combat droids in your post, I find it neccessary to state the same old tired fact. Personal combat droids are not Starwars. Period.

There is not one instance of a private citizen owning a combat/battle droid in all the starwars universe. This included the bantam and del rey books, dark horse comics (befor they went rouge) and all the movies. Where are you getting this idea from? While I am not a big fan of the CH profession, at least there is a basis for its existence. There are any number of pets, big and small, portrayed through-out the SW universe. But NEVER any personal/private combat droids. UTILITY DROIDS is what the people want. Skip DE all together untill P8 if you must. But don't give usesomething that is so not starwars.

So...we brought this on ourselves? I think not. This was earned by those than 'own' it.

And how are you any more special than any other profession in this game?

I'm not sure that I said we were. I think thatall professions really are getting alack of info TO them.

As an example, we could have likely avoidedthe entire DH/DC'announcement' that TH made (and caused me to make my DH poll) had we been APPROACHED to verifywhat the community really did want or think was "cool".

Did that happen?Well...they tried. It seems like a great deal of our constructive input was squandered by only reading it very general ways ("Oh....they want to be crafters only. Okay.")

Every profession has had this same sort of treatment - virtual silence from the devs about forthcoming changes, other than "here is the complete revamp, live with it". And that has only happened twice - CH and Chef.

Yes, I'd partly agree with that. I'm not sure, however, that another profession has a bug list the size of Gorantoth's that has gone basically untouched for months on end.

The high and mighty attitude shown by so many in the forum is quite astonishing. There are many good veteran DEs that are no longer participating in this forum anymore and are still practicing the art of DE because they are so sick of the spoilt brat mentality of people like yourself, Audio, Virtanis and so forth.

I guess you'll have to forgive us for being jaded. We sure didn't come into the game this way. We were MADE that way over time.

Your constant ranting and "I'm so good I'm doing a 'breakdown' of your posts" attitude is not garnering any favour with the devs or many, many DEs.

I don't care about garnering favour with the Devs. Why should I? They have to do their job regardless. I just try to help them realize that working with us to better our future will always be better than sitting behind a curtain of silence (Note: I'm talking about details on 'work' on the DE profession, not general comments made.)

I myself have practically stopped visiting the DE forums because of this constant whining. If you don't like it, leave. Go moan about some other profession.

Actually, instead of spending so much time in the forums, I just started doing stuff in-game to pass the time.

You'll soon learn that the tune will be the same, just the words are different. The devs are doing their job, and can see fit to how they want to do it, based on many more inputs than you'll ever see. Take off those "I'm a DE so I deserve special treatment" blinkers and come to reality so that you may realise that if we get changes, that is good, but if we don't who cares it's not like we cannot function at all.

I don't think DEs deserve special treatment. I do think that we've been somewhat ignored in the past. And, no...the number of posts by red-names in a profession forum does NOT equate to "attention".

More posts doesn't mean better posts. We need them to post better. It's true....sorry.

Now I caught a David Lynch Dune reference in there and an Angela Landsbury reference (can't remember the musical). Bravo!

How would you classify the Zuckuss/4LOM relationship? I'm not saying that's a situation where one guy has a personal combat droid, but it's close...

I hate feeling like "SnideMaster"...but I can see why you said that.

Yes....I'm pretty jaded and somewhat pessimistic.

I'm not sure that too many of you can blame us old-timers that have seen all the DE-related twists and turns from launch up until today. It's not a pretty sight.

I do try to remain positive, despite what you hear in my posts. I just happen to think that we get too much dev nicey-nice marketing speak that basically adds up to a big fat zero, in terms of practical or constructive communication to us.

Been here...done this.

If/when I see information from a red-name on this profession forum that's worthy of even the tiniest amount of praise, you'll get it.

I have yet to see anything even marginally approaching this since the end of June last year.

You don't listen....sorry.

Would you guys give the man a break, please?

I mean, geez, him replying to that today is one of the bravest things I've seen posted in a long time. Yeah, the focus of publish got changed, by SOE and Lucasarts. Not by JustG himself. I'm sure he is the servant, not the master.

Do you realize what he just said is :
You'll have more useless droids nobody want in the next publish?
I guess in one month it'll be :
You'll see in the next publish you'll have powerfull droids, that'll just cost you another 100 skill point to use them.

So basicly, nothing new for publish 7? We already have under level 10 combat droids - that's the Probot. So what is it? New skins? Sorry, that's still not a fix...

And JustG, as a "group" no one is still thinking about that silly quote from so long ago - really, let it go. The few who put it in their /sigs recently even though we have full well known for a while that it was pushed back were just trying to get attention.

PS - JustG, will you PLEASE stop using anything other than notepad to compose? I have a feeling TH does it on purpose with MSWord since it's mentioned every time he posts yet he never acknowldeges it, but it's a pain in the behind to not be able to quote someone without having to lauch an external program.

The CH changes didn't have complete silence. They posted ahead of time what they were planning to do, and even listened to us when we pointed out some problems, took our feedback into account, and changed their plans for the better. Sure, it turned out that "everything below CL50 will spawn babies" wasn't entirely accurate (where's my PHARPLE!) and that "rare pets" meant "spend three or four weeks hunting and you might spot one," but on the whole, they communicated the changes well, and listened to feedback.

I've no idea how they went about things with the Chefs, though.

As for the Droid Engineers: I look forward to the day when I can buy a droid that I'll want to use. Preferably, with working colours. I bought a little R2 droid, the ONLY time his colours have ever been what I asked for was when the DE called him to show me. That saddens me
