I will continue to research, report and bring the DE communities concerns to the PTBs. That's about all that I really can do here, folks. The ultimate decision on any move/change is really up to them.

TK, if something like this does end up happening, know that many (if not all) of your fellow DE's will stand behind you. You're not at fault here, and anybody that tells you otherwise... Well just let us know and we'll "take care" of them.

fugedaboutit...

Yea...I know. Too bad ETG's droid mafia took a break. I know that the DE community will stand up...it's those that don't know any better that I'm worried about...

Ohh I dont think you have to worry TK, if any of that nonsense happens I think there are a legion of DE's who will make the offender wish the post had never been made.

You have better things to do than deal with any of that, I think you can leave it to us

Just a quick head's up on my testing experience with the new Probot (thanks Drashk).

I dediced to check out the new Corvette dungeon but, before I could get there, I needed to do the first mission for neutrals for Jabba.

For this, I had to go take out a Tusken Leader.

After clearing the first Tusken (and dying twice, since my toon only has Unarmed 4), I got to the Leader.

The Probot called (delay of 15 sec.) and I noted that in 18 hits, it got a total of 2229 dmg. That averaged out to 123dmg per hit. Not stellar...but much better than what it had before.

If found that when I tanked and let the Probot go ranged, it lasted much longer. I would suggest, when these hit, that this be the recommended method for their use. If a player has a CL10 creature (which they will be able to have out at the same time as the new Probot), let the creature tank and the Probot (and JoePlayer) provide damage.

I did get dizzied and KD'd by the leader. While I was down, I was able to use the repair kit Bon the Probot and it healed for about 900ish damage (which saved my b___, by the way).

I'll try to add more as I can but I'm still in that new stage where I feel like I have a ton to stay on top of...

Thanks, TK. I know this point isn't lost on you, but this situation is a bad turn of events. The probots meager tanking ability -- once is only feature -- has been nerfed.

If you're looking to whip this out on Dantooine, you're out of luck. However, in a group situation, I suspect that it will be more helpful than it was before due to the change in damage output (since players/creatures can tank).

You hit a very good point.

I also think combat droids will also gain more popularity by the fact that camp restrictions will be lifted. Its almost unanimous that people hate having to use camps to call vehicles, droids and creatures. CH's have no option than to use camps because the benefit of their powerful pets outweigh the tediousness of having to camp. Everyone else needs to take out their vehicles because walking long distance is torture. However, people will not bother taking out droids or creatures most of the time because they need to use camps which is a pain (open inventory, start crafting, look for hide and bone, click click click, wait a few seconds, look for a spot that is not near a lair, deploy camp, destroy camp). After publish 7, people will think about using combat droids much more... all they have to do is call it anywhere.

And like TK said.. Imagine a large group where almost all if not all the group has a combat droid out, it would turn the outcome of a battle big time.

Droids may also become more popular in PvP because of their higher attack ability. They will hurt people. Even if the droid distracts a person's attention away from you for a short period of time.. that short period can and most usually will be the deciding factor in a fight. If the enemy decides to ignore the droid, then the droid will keep pounding more damage on top of the damage you are already delivering.

Also, theHAM changes with publish 8 will give combat droids (and creature pets) more of a fighting chance in PvP.

progman63 The single thing that you're missing is that we did vote for something, we all voted for Droid Certs, it was only after the Droid Handler announcement that we found out that the certs idea had been removed from our list of choices.

So when people were asked "Do you want DE to be a hybrid profession" most people saw it as "Do you want certs or a Hybrid DE". And as most people wanted Certs so said that they didn't want a hybrid DE. So time passes, and then we get told that we specifically asked for a Droid Handler profession, because we didn't want to be a hybrid profession

Exactly. If we had known the only choices were DH or hybrid, the votes would ahve gone much differently.

Niennunb,

Thanksfor seeing the good in what's coming. I wish more DEs could do that.

It's pretty easy to shot holes in some updates and think about how a new feature will be a "nerf" (and, yes, some things are nerfs).

However, I don't want everyone to focus on what's negative about this.

You did a great job showing the benefits of the new changes....I would hope that others would follow you lead on this and start thinking about the positive effects.

Um, instead of writing "A really good post" care to share with us what you find so profound?

Iread Niennumb's post (yes, a nice post), and all I sawwas "camp restrictions will make more people use them" and "possibly people will use them in large groups" in regards to positivity. The former is a given, but the latter is simply not true - they will be more of an annoyance than anything else because of constant stimming for in comparison little damage output (compared to the players) and no defenses. Groups couldn't be bothered. You don't see large groups going around with CL-10 creature pets either. And PvP? Hehehehehe...that's all I can say.

If you don't want people to focus on what is negative, how about showing us the positive?

If you would like others to "follow the lead", please, tell us how all our fears are unfounded - tell us about the positive effects.

Because I, and most other DE's who have posted, simply don't see them.

We see a HUGE nerf that you keep pooh-poohing, and very, very little additional content for customers who are expecting a hell of a lot more out of a "Droid Invasion".

Tell us how we aren't going to mind sitting at our factories, producing 2-3 times the parts we were before and getting a droid that is WORSE than before the patch; tell us how doubling the named resources we need will be fun, especially when the additions are for a product that most people aren't even going to need/will laugh at for weak CL-10 pets; tell us how people downloading that Wallpaper aren't going to log in an excpect to find those droids on our vendors.

If you have a TRUE positive light to shed on this, TK - by all means do so.

If you have rehetoric and want to sing "Kumbayah", then just ignore me - don't bother to reply.

Just to put this in perspective...

I just made a pretty sub-par LE Repair Adv droid (using pretty yucky resources) and it got 1749 HAM (with only a very small amount of experimentation possible).

Yes, but how much damage does that LE Repair Adv do with its 3 combat modules vs the 5 in a Probot?

I'm not pooh-poohing the armor change, Audio. I know it's going to hurt.

On the flip side, I see the positive in that we do have a working ability to actually 'stim' our droids...something we've been asking for forever and now finally have. That is a good thing.

Tell us how we aren't going to mind sitting at our factories, producing 2-3 times the parts we were before and getting a droid that is WORSE than before the patch;

I'mnotgoing to mind it because I probably won't take the time to make EVERY part myself. I'm thinking I'll sub-contract these with a lower-level DE (so that both he/she and I get something out of the deal).I'm not 100% on that yet...but it's something I'm going to look into...

Well, I agree that the Wallpaper was mis-stating the Droid Invasion, from a certain point of view. Those droids ARE now in the game...just not in the way that most people are expecting.

Do you not think I'm going to have to deal with the same kinds of upset people that you (and all of us) will?

I know that having more parts to make is going to change how people play DE. As of yet, I'm not convinced that this is a bad thing..just a different thing.

If you used to make 400 Droid Brains in a run, now you might want to run less and commit your factory runs to smaller or more specific parts. I'm not telling you how to run your business here...just making the point that this release is going to change the 'business model' for all DEs...not just you.

If you have a TRUE positive light to shed on this, TK - by all means do so.

Well...errr...I just started this, Audio. You don't mind if I try to get on top of some of this new info by testing and trying some of this out, do you?

If you have rehetoric and want to sing "Kumbayah", then just ignore me - don't bother to reply.

You know I can't ignore you. I don't want to sing happy songs. What I do want to do is not look at the entire release as lemons but try to see it for the lemonade that we can make. Right now, I have very little experience with changes. So, I appreciate your patience as I try to get a handle on how the changes will actually play out in the long term.

Actually, those droids won't go in with Publish 7, they will go in when they open the Corellian Corvette with a mini-publish, probably 2 weeks out. So even placing those droids in a "Droid Invasion" wallpaper, when they won't be in the game for two weeks following the "Droid Invasion", is misinformation.
