Yeah, no kidding. I mean, I wouldn't mind finding some way to simply choke the life out of some posters via the internet, but fighting in RL over a post? Never ![]()
btw Jason, most I ever managed was 1 personal troll, you've got me beat with 2. *bow* ![]()
i got bored with healing people so what the hell. get a buddy and he tumbles. i heal. i'm not afk. nor do i care about people who say stuff.
i think of it like this: i go and order a big mac and almost get a bite. a veggitarian (spelling?) sees me and says red meat will kill me. do i - A eat the sandwhich and go on with my life or B throw away the sandwhich and thank the person with all my might or C offer to buy a big mac for them.
(if this is too hard to understand think of a cig instead of big mac with a little different words)
i really don't care. nor should others. it is a game. so i level up faster than you. you call me a cheater or what not. well good for you. run around with loads of time to play. i could master and more sooner. the ones who complain cry nerf, and when it's their profession, they say cheaters
speaking as a musician and not a doctor on this one i will tell you that afkers have made our profession the pits.
let me explain to you jason why i think so and perhaps you can understand our non-afk point of view.
I became an entertainer to socialize with people and have fun in that way. i did not do it so i could heal, or play music, or become a jedi. I played night and day (more than i should have) always atk. I had tons of fun, found my current husband and guild while playing the coronet cantina.
My daily life would envolve several fights where imperials or rebels would come in and kill somebody, all entertainers would gang up and dislike anybody that killed in the cantina. at this time we were a group, a family. i can still tell you the names of many musicians and dancers that i met during the several months i was in the cantina. My high point of most days was meeting that new person. somebody who was just starting out and had NO idea how the game ran. I would give him/her pointers, and 9/10 times they would make it to my friends list (and probably still cht with them from time to time)
Now let me tell you why i dislike afk macroers.
I go into the cantina nowadays and it is filled to the brim (way past capacity. where is the fire marshall?) with people that are not at the keyboard. These people spam the spatial chat with emotes and please heal or tip messages. I can no longer socialize without being in a seperate chat tab. I can easily put those afkers on my ignore list (and frequently do) but that does not solve the problem of the person coming in from the wilderness seeing/hearing that spam. Thus my greetings and even /tells get overwhelmed. This person that just came in nowadays assumes everybody is afk. He gets healed and leaves. not once doing what the cantina is for, and not once having a very satisfying experience that any good entertainer can provide. Not to mention i may be missing out on cool new friends, that had afkers not been there i may have met.
The person then leaves the cantina and assuming everybody is afk, doesnt tip because they are afk. Thus nobody gets money, and that guy gets a free healing whether or not the person he listened/watched was afk.
Now you have said thats why people have player cantinas. Which is true. I have one too. However without starports they are infrequntly traveled, and are never lay over spots. The only people that really come to player cities are the ones that live in them, unless you have a POI near your city. This drastically cuts down on the amount of socializing a person can do. I almost never meet new people at my cantina.
Another thing you have said about afkers being in cantinas normal musicians are is near bologna. Most afkers are where people are since they want the healing xp. They are in well trafficed areas such as coronet, and theed. if you go to an out of the way cantina chances are still that you are not going to find an entertainer. There is just more people in one place all begging for xp and money.
Now i am going to speak as a doctor about afk.
A person that afk macros through their profession hurts in the following ways:
1. people leveling using afk tumbling monkeys leaves that one person that is healing that monkey NOT healing people who need it. meaning that is one less medic that is not healing patients.
2. Any unattended gameplay leads to no socializing. This game is all about socializing. You need other professions to do stuff for you, and they need you to do stuff for them. It is the basic premise of any MMORPG. I leveled doc in the med center for different reasons then musician. While in the cantina i noticed more and more people having to stop playing due to no action left. So i picked up medic and eventually doc to keep them going. It was still at that point all about socializing.
When you are afk you dont get to meat and converse with people and thus provide a cold and sterile gaming experience. Have you ever thought about that lone newbie that comes into the med center and see a person with a novice doc tag healing a monkey. He comes up to that doc and says howdy doc, i have massive wounds and would very much like them damaged. (or even better hey doc how do i get rid of this black stuff?) That doc doesnt answer them and instead proceeds to heal the monkey. That newbie then leaves the med center confused and disheartend (then he enters the cantina LOL)
My basic point about afking is that it destroys the socializing aspect of this game. The socializing is the number one reason people should buy a MMORPG. it is multiplayer for a reason. If you want to go afk and play solo, you might as well buy a single player game. There is not one profession in this game that totally and completely relies on nobody else (save maybe tka). This game was set up so you would have to interact with people on a regular basis. Heck that is the point of a MMORPG. afking ruins that very principle.

1. You think the AFKer would be playing 24/7 if he wasn't AFK or something? I know when I'm AFK that's because I'm sleeping or working or doing something else. If I wasn't AFK I wouldn't be playing at all.
2. This game is about socializing for you. Doesn't mean that's what it's about for everybody else or that all socializers never AFK or that all people who AFK in the middle of the night never socialize. Perhaps if you like to socialize you should try TSO.
Haha, I'm a doctor, and after acquiring some woundage doing missions the other day, I stopped myself from 'Doctor, heal thyself' , and thought I would be patient and let a new medic get some xp. I go to the Coronet med center, and with six people in there, I sat and waited. It soon became apparent no one was going to heal me, even after suggesting it aloud, and glanced at the combat chat channel......half were tumbling, half were stimming. Not a peep from any of them. I healed my self and left.
The is allthe fault ofthe game destroying jedi system, in my opinion, same with all the empty vendors and insane masses of AFK entertainers.
I just said if you aren't at your Keyboard roleplaying then you shouldn't get xp. I never said anything about what you do when you are playing, living the your Star Wars Saga. How bout giving a reason whyanyone should be allowed to gain levels while you sleep, and why then should we keep an XP system in place if people are allowed to bypass it. TELL US A GOOD REASON WHY. And why if everyone should leave people and let them play their game that, whichthe AFKershave said time and time again, thatyou would come on the board and support a system that ruined a profession in the game (entertainers) for 1000 of players who enjoyed playing it without macroing, and the macroing and AFK made it horribly unfun and RUINED their playing expirence. It's ok to ruin someone else's fun as long as your gaming expirence is not messed with.
/rolls eyes
That's my point. It ruins the game for a lot of people. AFKers don't care about that, because if they did, they wouldn't do it. At least realize that fact, it can not be denied. If people need to let people play the way they want to play, then AFKing does not allow that. It affects me when I can not get healed because of it. It affects me when I can't chat with a live body in the cantina. And to say most people don't care about it is not true. Check the cancellations since this holo grinding/AFK epedimic hit really big. The numbers are WAY down in the game, and they are at least 250,000 under projections according to It's hurting MY gaming expirence and a lot of others as well.
