Thread: Why dont Docs answer tells ? (rant)
I've been a Master Doc for over four months now. I haven't used the Master Doc title in over two months.
If anything I use the Master Combat Medic title, out of a simple courtesy to fellow CMs looking for training. And I still get a tell about once a day for a buff. Now when I have the energy to respond instead of just ignoring them off the bat the conversation usually goes like this:
m0ronx: Buff me
me: Don't ask a CM that.
m0ronx: But most CMs are also Docs.
me: So? Would you ask a Pistoleer to make you a set of Armor?
And it typically goes downhill from there. Now its not too uncommon for me to hand out buffs. Especially to people that are passing through my guild's player city, if I'm not doing much at the time or fellow guildies. However when someone that's on a different corner of the planet is sending me tells, when they don't even know that I can buff.
The sad part of all of this is that it makes it hard for someone looking for training to find a Doc or CM to get it from.

Why I don't answer the buff tells...
Let's see 2800 tells in 2 minutes of logging on (ok it is actually 45), ALL from the farthest reaches of the world, all from **edit**-holes wanting me to pay 7800 credits to fly to them, having me buff them, and then have the ungratefull SOB b**ch about how he can get 3000+ hits from Doc so and so for only 1k.
3000+ hits on all stats all the time **edit** ever fellow. All for 1k, **edit** ever fellow.
Afterpaying out 600,000 credits a weekfor med supplies, spending ALL my time in med centers healing all of you meat-heads for free (YOU are in a hurry and YOU are the all important one), being dissed after the free heals, being expected to give out crates of stim C's, D's, and E's for free, then getting slapped or PvP'd because I didn't give them out for free, being slammed about expensive 5-10k buffs, you wonder why I don't answer tells. OK, I get paid when...
You are running 40k missions on Dantooine, with full composite, Flamethrower, and speederbike, after leaving your personal private PA hall for a house. Artisans charging 100k+ for miners and 50k for speeders, Weaponssmiths charging 25K-50K for a decent weapon, Armoursmiths charging 600,000k for ADV composite, Scouts selling meat for 2500cpu, and I am the one that is jacking up the prices to a gross, greedy, price gouging, monopolistic-Bill Gates number.
And you wonder why I don't answer tells. I would bust you in the mouth, if you asked me that in real life, while standing next to me.

Now THAT'S what I call grizzled... ![]()
I wear TKM because it was alot harder to get than Master Doctor is, and it was [or used to be] more impressive... and it just kicks ass is all, hehe. The world is flooded with TKMs now tho, so maybe I'll switch... Fencer seems to be nice.
Kudos to the Docs who drop their overhead Master Doctor titles when they aren't buffing. No big deal for them, and saves everyonetime and frustration. The Buff-ees don't want to waste your time or theirs. Where is the NPC Robo-Buffer?
I have literaly gotten 15 tells all at once for buffs, so now i just keep my Master Doc tag off.

These days I run around with a novice smuggler tag on. Really cuts down on the chatter for healing. Unfortunately, I get bugged for spice I can't make, or slices I can't perform instead.
My take on the original poster's complaint, which has been amply demonstrated throughout this thread, is that nearly all Docs answer nearly all tells. Even in a starport most of us can see the tells in the Groupchat channel and hear the beeps if we play with sound on
Unless of course, you're on /ignore
Docs, for that matter any highly sought after service profession, are going to be fairly trigger-happy with the /ignore
Here are my usual reasons:
- you're rude. You might not think you were rude, perhaps you feel that "please" is old-fashioned but if I think someone's rude I /ignore them
- you're lame. Someone was doing the /spit /punch /duel routine to everyone in town including the AFK samplers so I took him on. He lost and started abusing me. I have no idea how long the abuse went on for on his end. On my end it went on for under 10 seconds
- you're annoying. One guy kept sending me tells about all the marvellous things he was up to. No idea why. No idea if he's still sending them.
- you spam. I have gone into a cantina, tried to have a conversation and had someone interrupt with "please feel free to heal us and tip us". These people go on ignore so I continue in peace. Later on maybe they ask me for buffs or for healing. Maybe they don't. Who knows? I sure don't
Now I'm not accusing you of doing any of this but if you never get your tells answered by Docs then you are probably doing something that is annoying enough to get you onto other people's ignore lists. Try to figure out what
i get about 10/tells on my screen before i even see my character.... serves me right for logging outside coronet starport really, but i ALSO have an afk message that informs all customers of my whereabouts and wethere i am buffing or not...
/tell hell is SOOOOOOO bad as a master doc...
hey dcome rex me kths
plsbuff me... i dont have any money...
hey doc, can you res my ded overt friend? he wants to go dupe another AT-ST
I'm guilty of it - I wanted XP, so I healed.
Now when someone runs in shouting:
"I NEED HEALING"
"HEAL ME"
"IVE GOT WOUNDS"
my response is:
"do you know how to tip?"
or
"I NEED MONEY FIRST"
As a master doc I can probably heal the bulk of their wounds in 6 easy steps. You could spend 20 minutes sitting their for the novice medic to do it - or you could tip me 500 creds, ask nicely, or send me a tell asking "how much?". on you go in a minute or two.
I've been master doc for, oooh, 2 days. I wear "Master Chemist" instead. I'm more inclined to offer a buff to people that dont ask. Wander south from theed starport, find someone with no mastered professions having trouble killing nuna's. Give them Enhance-C and really let them enjoy that evening's playing.
I'll buff friends and guildmembers I'm grouped with. In fact that's what I consider the purpose of a doctor - preparing the troops for battle, and patching them up after.
The day I make Master Dr is the day I stop making serial random heals. ( within the week )
For 2 reasons.
#1 It cost me money to make the stimpacks and wound packs.
#2 The novice Medic or Dr looking for XP should get the heal as I get nothing for it.
The problem is that people get very used to being healed for free as the novices ( like me ) desperatly need the xp and so Just sit in the Medical center, or cantina, or at the starport and randomally heal everyone.
Im looking forward to hunting parties, a MD Buff station ( ocasionally ) and other medical businesses.
Heck, I've had my doctor tag turned off since early August. That's 5 months of relative peace and quiet.
If someone does figure out I'm a Doc and sends me a tell I will respond, one way or the other IF I SEE IT.If don't respond, it's because I didn't see it. I didn't see it because I'm not looking at the screen or I am concentrating on another chat channel, orbecause my crafting screens are covering my chat windows.
That's my experience anyway. Your mileage may vary.

I'm only a novice doc, won't hit master for a very long time - as much asa week maybe
- but would just like to warn everyone that the Novice Doctor taghas dangers of it's own ...
Example 1, I'm quietly sat at the Public crafter making a 350+ x34 Stim B when I get a tell "Can you heal me?". The med centre is 50 metres away, so being fairly obliging about healing, up I jump & off I dash - none there.
Another tell, this time amused "Can't you see me? I'm by the wall".
To cut a brief barage of confused tells short, turns out this player was surveying close to the crafter, & wanted me to heal his action for him so he could "survey quicker".
Example 2, the persistent player who was getting up a group of 4 players for - a survey mission. Wanted me to be the group healer. Very persistent about it too - I had to refuse 3 or 4 times, almost put him on ignore, tho I do hope he had fun surveying ![]()
