Well considering all elite professions are getting forced to pick up a second column of a basic profession, (unarmed for fencer, 1 handed for TKM), I think just the opposite, the devs are taking MORE away from the professions by forcing us to spend more SP. I suspect we'll still be able to be MD/Master combat profession, but not much else. That all depends on if they add to the base requirements for the classes or not, (i.e. more SP, more basic columns for each profession.


Since BE requires four columns of Scout, we won't be craftingmaster docs/BE/Master combat profession anymore, unless it's a basic profession...

Yeah, but we don't know that you'll have to master scout to be BE anymore either. I know it's just speculation, and you're only basing it on what you know now, but there's definitely more to come from the devs.

It would suck, though, if you wanted to be a crafting doc and your assumptions pan out, as you'd only be able to craft and harvest. Oh, and run up hills really fast

Just for the record, I've never said "I'm qutting if this happens..." (not that you said I was). I'm going to stick it out and wait and see, and I may even give the new changes a try to see how I like them. I'm a doctor due to healing first, crafting second.

However the economy for buffs is going to tank, crafters will lose millions, and as a result, Coruscant, Endor, Yavin, Corellia and Rori will burn. Han Solo will be assassinated in a revenge killing by Greedo's 1/2 cousin, Leia will wind up marrying Jar-Jar Binks, Chewbacca will be returned to a state of slavery and Luke will freeze to death outside the wampa's lair...

This last point will all be moot of course as Luke is by far not the last jedi....

LOL, the sky really is falling

I'm curious, since the devs hinted at a conversion, what will become of current buff/heal stock. My own guildmate just posted he's discounting the buffpacks he sells, as well as the buffs he provides, and I'd imagine a lot of docs are thinking the same.

The misunderstanding here is that WE DONT LIKE WANT OR NEED this change. This sweeping almost total nerfing of our ability to craft will bankrupt most of us. Ive been here since the first day of this game and am among the oldest doctors on the servers (day 8). I have always been a doc, and I do not feel that all I have built up and all my stocks should be just wiped out because some moron does not know that the actual imbalance in combat is melee and rifel over power and armor over 65%.

Again... nothing is being wiped out. The devs have hinted at converting existing buffs, and resources with high stats will still be needed. Nobody knows by whom they will be needed, but at the very least those resources will still be sellable.

The devs said from the beginning that the CU will be a big change to the whole game, as combat is somehow connected to every aspect of the game. Every MMORPG is constantly changing. It has to in order to be fun, and it has to in order to survive. SWG has to change in order to live up to its potential, which I'm sure we all want to happen.

Some advice: we all have to avoid the "nerf bat" type of thinking. This will be a whole new system, where each profession has its place in combat and in the game. It will serve no purpose to try to compare the current system with the new one after the CU. Yes, the CU "hit just about everything," but we can't think of that as a negative thing. It's just a fact, and we have to see the new system on its own.




Then they need to make sure that the economic impact of this is fairly addresed.. every last med they nutralize has to be tradeable at some sort of an npc for that servers fair market value. It is completly unfair for them to economicly ruin a class this way..

In order to pick up BE currently, we'd have to get scout XP. In order to get "MASTER BIO ENGINEER!!!!" the majority of us would need to drop our combat professions. The free SP reallotment will either go toward the replacement column we'll get for MD, (they won't make us a three column profession), or toward those columns within BE, but only after we pay the skill point requirements to earn novice BE.


Going from MD that crafts/Master combat profession to anything else that costs us our skill points is a major realignment, plus it would relegate us to JUST crafting without any real ability to fight as well...


Most of us realize the alternative steps we'll need to take, and most of us aren't trying to get the devs to change their minds, we're simply discussing how much of a blow this is to the profession.

Arryth - How is the change-over of Doc crafted items any different then that of the Chef foods, armor, weapons, CM components, etc. etc. etc.? I really find it tough to belive that the Devs plan on "economically ruin" us by setting our crafted items aside and not giving a fair conversion.
