Thread: charging for buffs
The reason is, when a player asks for buffs: 1) he/she really needs them and will gladly take them, and 2) more often than not these are players with enough money to pay for them (i.e. experienced players).
I know that as a player, when I couldn't buff myself, I would often tip an extra 2k to the doc (say 8k) after the buffs.

I used to charge 3k for buffs as a master surgeon, but I found that people still tipped me 5k regardless. At first I thought that this was because MDs had the general populace trained to pay 5k regardless of who is buffing.
I now charge 5k for a full set of buffs, but they are low800 power buffs so I figure they are getting their moneys worth. Still, some people tip me 1-2k extra. If I ever make 900ish buffs that price will definitely go up. Still, MD is part of my character build as a combat doctor, and I'm not in it tobuff others.
I'm just starting out (only 3 weeks old on Starsider) so I find buffing to be a hassle, and gathering the resources for good quality buffs to be a time and money sink. I'm already put myself on anonymous and have hidden my tag when waiting for shuttles.
I may turn off my MD tag altogether when I reach TKM. Until then, I need APs for that last master, so I keep the MD tag on for now.
I do the 1/1 (1cr/per point buffed) system too. Works wonderful.
I also added in anything unsder 1k is free.
Amazing.
I charge 12k/set on Valcyn, with 884 powerpacks, and do a huge amount of repeat business. For every person who refuses a set because my price is too high for them, there are five more who tipme 15k or more because they're happy with the service, or that I waited for them, or they got a few great rolls on their set, or what have you.
Why charge so much? Well, aside from that I do as much business as I want to do, I look at buffs as a service first and foremost, not a product. Sure, my packs are what I advertise and promote, but when pricing I am not looking merely to recoup their specific costs. My client base is paying for the massive amount of time that I've spent over the last couple months gathering resources to make the best packs possible. They're paying for the time that I've spent killing rasps for avain meat, or paralopes for herbivore meat, and for the times that I've had to pay upwards of 30cu for necessary resources. And, of course, they're paying for the time that I spend hanging out in town buffing them when I could be out killing jantas trying to get enough blood for a set of packs. (not unlike a real doc charging a lot for his services to, in a sense, recoup all those years of medical school, loans, and so forth)
Even more than that, they're paying what I think the buffs are *worth*. After all, I can go buff myself with Bs (yes Bs), and my trusty rock beetle and I can kill baz nitches all day long on dath for 22k every twenty minutes or so...
Now, if my packs weren't top notch, and I hadn't devoted so much time (and money -- I've easily spent 600k on resources in the last few days, although I'm happy to say my next batch of packs will be around 895 base) to their creation, I would certainly charge a bit less. But don't sell your product short -- a good set of buffs will keep you alive better than a killer weapon, or a full suit of composite, or even a backpack buff of 1200 power stim Es. And it will also make a bigger difference in the sort of game that you can hunt and kill.
Anyway, whatever your prices, happy buffing ![]()

All you guys only charging 3-5k for a full buff, please raise your prices! Its a matter ofRESPECT for God's sake! I play on Tempest, and i really dont have to buff for income, although its nice. I make plenty of credits on stims and resources.
The cheaper our buffs are, the less people respect us. I became a master doc mainly to contribute to my guild and be an effective part of a regular hunting party/raiding party.
Nothing insults me more than for some punk combat type (who i likely could own with my combat skills) spamms me to buff him like i need the 5k desperately.
I think 1 cr./1 pt. buffed would be great, but its not uncommon for me to buff a guy 10-12k HAM, and that is just too many credits. I charge 7200 for a full set, and get the occasional tip. One exception is buffing at the Holo hunting spots, where i make it a point to charge as much as 20k (pointing out if they don't like it they are welcome to travel back, say, to Theed or buff themselves). Clearly, when p.c. are in an environment where they stand to benefit heavily by being buffed, charge the crap out of them....it will piss them off but i encourage the practice because it will in the end increase our respect as a profession.
Its the right price (7-8k), and it makes people appreciate it more, and perhaps become stim customers.
Please, stop sitting at starports and spamming buffs for very low rates, you will drive it down lower even until we are just considered peons to the other characters

I started out charging 6k for all 6 stats. I do not seperate my buffs to individual ones. All my buffs are over 900 power 3 hours 20 mins. Now I buff a person and ask them to tip me what they think they are worth. With this method and a certain amount of trust in people I have been tipp'd 100,000 creds for buffs once. 50,000 creds twice and usually about 10-12,000. Yes I know I can be ripped off and if I am I will send emails to all the doctors I know letting them know what happened. Also that person will never get another thing from me in this game ever.
Very recently I have been refusing buffs to people for the way they act or just stupid names like Pwned or Phart EEEEE. There is an entire guild I wont buff because of actions I have seen them doing. Load killing at the starports or tripple incapping people with a flame thrower.
I give my PA freee buffs anytime they want them. I give discounts to players I know and PA's that I know do things the way I think they should be done.
Maybe I am veing a bit naive or even stupid but I have alittle faith in people and if I show them respect I usually get it in return in what ever way they can.
i personally charge 7k for master buffs because the enhance packs are real expensive
I only charge 12k if I'm on Endor going to a mission and someone stops me while they are running by. If its at the Med Center on Endor it still will only be 7 or 8k. Its an extra 4k inconnvience charge. lol Cause I have to set camp and take my drioid out.
