Thread: My opinion, for anyone that cares...

It is interesting to see how many of the blue medical glowies are not behind the new CU (but WERE behand the first CU plan). Our general complaint is the "way too far" one.

I hate crafting meds, but I would have been fine with consolidation of meds into packs (Buff D: all stats for example).

When you try to remake a game from the ground up, you tear up the roots. Everything in the game touches combat. Every profession not directly involved (or out of te scope of te CU as they say) will need to be rebalanced after the CU. Every creature, item and ability i nthe game. Every location, POI and dynamicevent. Even if the CU was 100% ready in and of itself on May 5, there will be 6+ months of fixing that other stuff.

Then again, after Beta 3, many of the core changes that needed to be fixed were not even touched unti lthe CU... 2+ years from when they were brought up the first time... but we do have 2 expansions that will/ or do have their own bugs and core issues.

Instead of Fixing what they had, the devs decided to start from scratch. They needed MORE time to pull theat off then to just fix it... and they didn't get to this new plan until very recently.

For as much as I pick on crafing docs. There are more of you then there are of me. So who is the real SWG doctor then? The majority of the people that play doctor.

The new doc doesn't really appeal to me, even with the crafting removed. Soewhere the fun was removed too. ... don't get me started on the UI/ icons.. sheesh.

Yeah Agent it's really sad, they ruined a great and fun profession. I'm going to see how it looks after CU but definatly very saddened by the destruction of the profession.

Overreact much? Everything is subject to change. CMs had a fit and proved it and got their requirements changed from Pistols to Ranged again.

Don't feed me anything about them not listening or not acting on what we suggest.

that was an adjustment, they totally changed us and made it hard to adjust. As a CM too that was just a small change. Not a revamp.

CU comes:

Healing doc: "This looks to be the greatest thing ever! I'm SO looking forward to healing being important again!"

Crafting doc: "Holy COW! We're having to move to BE? My resources won't be nearly as valuable as I once paid for them, plus I'm being told I'm not a doctor anymore! I'm not sure I like this!"

Healing doc: "Cry me a river! Anyone who doesn't heal was just in it for the money! Cry to someone who gives a rip! Being a doctor is about healing, not buffing, crafting or making money. You guys are pathetic!"

Yeah I can see how we crafting docs, (oh excuse me, we're not allowed to play in any doctor reindeer games anymore, I mean we medical BE's), should just be open to change and embrace this move and make the most out of it. After all as the old saying goes, "if r a p e is inevitable, one may as well enjoy it right?"

It's not just crafting or buffing docs who are against the CU. I am a healer. My entire template was designed around healing a group in combat. The CU effectively destroys nearly everything I find fun in the game. Yes, I like that docs will be more needed in combat again. The problem (for me) is that the magic healing makes me more cleric than doctor. If SWG had been at day one, what it will be when the CU goes live, I would not have played beyond the free month that came with the game.I've been through 4 of the 5 steps in Marrow's list (though there is plenty of anger left in me). After the end of the month, I will settle into accepting the change. it's just that the change I will accept is a life without SWG.

Sure, but if the only different about your template is the fact you don't have a doctor bag in your inventory, and all other stuff stays the same, it's a slightly less impact in my eyes, (but that's not in any way meant to lessen the impact in your eyes)...

Something that disturbs me about CUEQ... and the majority of the posts I see, is the resignation. There seem to be very limited responses:

1. I can't STAND what they're doing... they aren't listening to the players.

2. Shut up, stop whining.

2.1. Oh, change is good, just learn to love it. After all, life is change (i.e. Cheese comments?)

3. It could be worse, so just accept it and move on.

4. What I see is frightning... Here are some ways to make it a little better?

I, too, had a lot of hopes for CU. I was looking for IMPROVEMENTS to the systems, not gutting andstarting at ground zero. The "Just accept it, and learn to like it" attitude is dangerous for one reason - this is a game paid for and supported BY PLAYERS. When there are 2-6 account people upset, not because the game's changing, but HOW the game is changing... the developers /should/ listen. People talk with their pocketbooks.

I LOVE Star Wars. I grew up on it. I played SWG for one reason: It was STAR WARS! Can I honestly be expected to play Everquest 3 - with Star Wars-esque monsters? Or, rather, to LIKE being told that combining SWG intoEQ is a good thing? I /loathe/ Everquest, and Everquest 2.For that reason, I do not play them.

Am I saying ALL of the CUEQ stinks? No. Do I feel that Devs are truly listening? Absolutely not. They are apparently listening to a select chosen few. The DevLogic (TM) applied to a lotof these changes baffles me.I've /tried/ to stay optimistic... but this radical redirection selected and announced recently (this was NOT what was originally intended...) and pushed into TC for rushed,bug-laden testing...prompts me to evaluate the fun:cost balance. Games are about fun... not about a second job. I'd like to see the devs truly PLAY professions before they tinker with them, but more,AFTER they do this.

Economies of funding and a desire toscrimp on coding costsdo not validate rewriting an established game to match a failing game system (EQ2). The "Buy a new SWG account pack, with all expansions, get a unique speeder!" gimmick was a slap in the face to established players. And, frankly, MOST of CUEQ is a slap in the face to the established players, in an effort to curry favor and lure those fromEQ2.

I'll wait to see how things shakeout. As it stands, if this is how it stands, I, unfortunately, will talk with the only voice I've any HOPE will be listened to... my money. Oh, and before the #2's and 3's jump in - Yes, I've been playing TC. Yes, I've been reading the forums, and yes, I've given the survey feedback. I've seen some outstanding suggestions posted, and agree with a lot of them. There are a lot of us who aren't just griping, who aren't just upset our 'cheese was moved'... but have seen viable, well-thought options get little or no response from any developer.
