The orignal poster does not give docs a bad name. However some of the other posters in this thread are.

The nice people always outnumber the jerks. Always. No matter how jaded, obnoxious or rude you have becomeyou cannot deny this.

Putting on your master doc tag just to tell people you are not buffing and feeling good about it. . . that is sad.

I wasn't ashamed to be a doc but I was after reading that. Some of you "doctors" amaze me. I encounter rude people from time to time as well. I just tell myself that the 5000 nice people before him make it not matter as much.

I shudder to think what would happen if game mechanics were changed and buffs were not the hot topic they are now. What will we do if we ever have to go back to (oh horrors) being respectful of customers.

Oh devs I implore thee to never allow this to happen

I'm with JasonK on this one. Somehow for some odd reason I just don't seem to get the idiots you guys seem to have to deal with every second of your online lives.

If it's that bad pick another profession already. You can probably grind it out as easy as you grinded out this one by healing tumblers (and probably ignoring people who needed help along the way)

If you enjoy being a doc then just put up with the rare jerk and quit being a jerk yourself.

So you rez a guy for free, it's not the end of the world. So you heal some wounds for free, it's not the end of the world.

Since when did "FREE" become a dirty word in SWG?

All I know is I tipped someone 15k today to change my eyes to brown.

I'm not an asshat, so I refuse to let others be.

Am I saying I need 15k for a heal? No. But a thank you would be nice, and I hate that ppl are so demanding.

Exactly what I do. What really sucks is when someone tries to get to know you so your their "friend", when really they're just after your buffs. It's funny when I'm in my store and people send me a /tell and want a discount on my products. One of the reasons whyI stopped making meds.

Yeah, all my slots open for friendsare taken at the moment

omG they send you tells asking for a discount, lol

I wonder if they do that in Wal-Mart irl.

Hello, yes Sam? Are you the store manager!? You are, great... I was wondering if maybe you'll just knock 50% off this shampoo here, you see I am too lazy to get a job (go to the mission terminal) so I was hoping you'd just, you know, give it to me?

Actually yes people do this in ALL retail stores for any given item at all times!

Aside from that however, I agree that there are a lot of people who are rude and demanding and a lot of people who are actually nice or just don't make a fuss period. Luckily it's our choice how we play, but I think things really could be worse. I wear my Master Doctor tag regardless of whether I am buffing or not because I am proud of it and don't feel that wearing it entitles me to get treated rudely or for buffs to be expected. I just inform people whether I am available or not. I think it's sad that pretty much all professions feel the need to hide their titles, not just docs.

The nice do outnumber the jerks, this is true. But it's the jerks that leave the lasting impression.

Putting on your master doc tag just to tell people you are not buffing and feeling good about it. . . that is sad.

I'd have to agree that is a little mean... not that I haven't thought of it once or twice, but it's not something I'd actually do.

I wasn't ashamed to be a doc but I was after reading that. Some of you "doctors" amaze me. I encounter rude people from time to time as well. I just tell myself that the 5000 nice people before him make it not matter as much.

It isn't always an issue of being respectful to customers. Some folks go out of their way to be caring, respectful healers and STILL get the jerk treatment.

Oh devs I implore thee to never allow this to happen

I'm with JasonK on this one. Somehow for some odd reason I just don't seem to get the idiots you guys seem to have to deal with every second of your online lives.

But you have had your share, yes? Some folks seem to draw the idiots like magnets(good docs and indifferent docs alike) and some folks luck out and get them on a rare occassion. Consider yourself lucky you haven't had as many as others.

If it's that bad pick another profession already. You can probably grind it out as easy as you grinded out this one by healing tumblers (and probably ignoring people who needed help along the way)

Going a bit far there, don't you think? Not every doc grinded his way up. Plenty of the first wave are still around from the start of the game and their experiences are just as valid as yours. They became Docs the old-fashioned way, healing people. They just happen to have more issues then you do with the jerk-to-nice person ratio.

If you enjoy being a doc then just put up with the rare jerk and quit being a jerk yourself.

Since when did "FREE" become a dirty word in SWG?

Since when did 'Thank You' become a dirty word? Since when did common courtesy become a thing of the past?

It's not always about the money. Some of us would rather have a simply 'Thank You' then creds....and we can't even seem to garner that.

Message Edited by atimes on 04-09-2004 03:21 PM

I agree, there are jerks on both sides of this. And I don't blame those Healers who have grown weary of dealing with the jerks and simply ignore their requests(not condoning some of the retalliatory actions done, although I do find a bit of humour in them).

Fact of the matter is that Medical and Entertainment Healers have always gotten the shaft in terms of common courtesy. Both have to deal with idiots who think that 'xp' is the end-all, be-all 'payment' for services rendered. They never take into account the time, monetary or resource investments involved. They don't take into account the fact that the person on the other end is, in all actuality, a REAL live person deserving of some simple decency.

They don't take into account that a 'payment' can be in the form of a simple 'Thank You'.

Yes...there are idiots on both sides of this issue, but at least those of us on this side of it can point to our experience as a reason for our actions. What do those on the other side have to point to for not being able to type out two words?

Yes I agree we may tend to focus on the negative side of the part as playing doc/medic. And in regards to heal the tumbling monkey, as so delicately put by someone, yes I heal them if there is noone around that needs my attention. I always strive to help the patients first and the get back to healing the tumber in the corner. And yes I often just get a thanks in return for my services rendered and yes I am happy to help you. But like I stated our resources dont come cheap. Think about it. And no I am not wanting 10k+ in tips for healing like 10 wounds or so, I just want what ever the patient seems fair to tip me, if hes happy with a thank you then I am also happy for him.

And as I always end my healing conversations with. "Hope I dont have to see you too soon again. " Alomost all that I say that too understand the joke in that. So to you medics/docs dont just be a healer, talk to you patients and you might end up making some good friends and possibly a few may return some day saying they get a good deal on some resourses for you to buy.

Hey howabout this one, i didn't see anyone else touch on it. Don't ya just love the guy/girl who asks for heals and they only have 3 or 4 wounds in each pool. They say they want to be all better when they log back in. I don't know about you but I tell them that I am not really willing to waste my wound pack Ds on such little wounds. I tell them to go sit in a player hospital and all with be better in moments. This may be rude, but I worked hard to get the resources for my meds so I should be able to decide how they are used. Of course if they offer generous compensation I have been know to change my mind, wink wink.

But as for the title subject I switch between my Master Doc and Carbineer title every so often. I will admit that the repeated "Are you buffing?" sends do get a little annoying, but if I am not I just politely tell them that I am not because I am busy.

As far as dealing with jerks, that has gone down a lot since there are no more dud buffs. There are some out there but remember this, you are a better person for not being a jerk back. There are jerks in all walks of like, work, school, and sadly yes SWG. Just be as kind as possible because kindnest CAN rub off. If that doesn't work then use the ignore option(that's why it is there).

Have fun all you master docs and aspiring master docs for as far as I am concerned the doc profession is one of the funnest because of interaction with the public that needs healing.

Thats all of my rambling for now.

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!! That's some funny sh!t. I'm new to the Doctor thing but I'm sure it can't be that much different than when I was a Smuggler and had people trying to talk me down on my prices for selling faction. Guess I'll just be a bad Doc cause my prices are in stone.

I had this scenario happen a few nights ago at Nym's on my way off the planet:

Him - Can you come rez me?

Me - I can. How far away are you, and how long you been dead?

Him - I'm (waypoint 2.5 km away) and I just died.

Me - OK, I can be there in a couple minutes. I charge 10k to travel for a rez.

Him - What? Rez are free!

Me - No, meds cost money, plus travel time, the fact I'll miss the shuttle, and the chance whatever killed you will still be there.

Him - Well you should be happy just getting the XP.

Me - I'm a master doc, I don't need the XP.

Him - Well I just talked to five other docs and they dont charge!

Me - Well congrats, get one of them to rez you.

The stupidest part was by the time he finished arguing w/ me, the rez timer would have expired and I wouldn't have even been able to help him!

I too never travel w/ the Master Doc tag on, which is endlessly frustrating since I feel I worked hard to get it instead of holo grinding.

Now I've noticed that most Master Docs (and myself) travel w/ the "Medical Professor" tag on. I think the public is getting more aware of this trick.

Well if you are tired of gettting hassled for buff because you are wearing a title, then simply why dont you wear your combat title insted? Ofcourse some one may walk up to you and read your bio, and then start pouring tells your way. I normally hunt doctors for training and rarely for for buff's, I have learned to respect to the professions here. But if I do contact a doc about a buff, I am always polite and understand if he/she is busy else where.

I've got a good one for ya'll.I'm sitting on Dant dooing Janta missions trying to get just a couple units of Blood and this guy comes up to me and asks me to buff him.I say sure 15k.He goes nuts and starts screaming at me that it should only be 10k because thats what they charge in Coronet.Which he's correct on thats what I charge there when I want to buff bot people. But I decide to ignore his tiraid and explain to him that it'll cost him almost 7k just in travel money not counting the wait time just to get that 10k buff.He starts literally shouting out to everyone that I'm a con man trying to rip him off.Now this is a bad idea because even though I'm not very good at PvP some of my friends are and are waitng for me.He suddenly got 4 challenges to duels from them.He freaked and hopped on his bike and took off cussing the whole time. The good news is later after he paid the 7k travel money then paid the 10k buff price he sent me an email apologizing asking me not to permanently ban him from buffing even went so far to call himself a jackass.Made me laugh so much I could stop for 5 mins.Well worth the agrevasion in the end.

Something did make me sad yesterday. I was sat in Bestine Med Centre with my droid out crafting a few wound packs for newbie medics and docs which is something i like to do with the old crap resources i have laying around. There must have been no less than 6 Novice Docs (not AFK) healing 2 tumblers, completely ignoring those people that came in with almost full black bars. I didn't realise how bad it was until my spatial was swamped with heal me please requests from at least 8 people. I stopped crafting, asked the Novice Docs if they wanted to heal them for the XP, 3 replied saying no, we're healing the tumber. Fine you heal the tumbler, so i healed them all and received almost 100k in tips.

These are the people that give Docs a bad name, if people come in wounded, heal them, you may get thanks, you'll definetely get some XP, you mayeven get a tip and it only take a minute to do.
