Thread: Survey skill for the Doc (and Combat Medic) crafting line?

On every server, there is no shortage of Doctors selling mid 2k buffs at a decent profit. There does not seem to be a problem with doctors finding the resources they need. Just like stim B use and harvesting, surveying is a skill that you need to pay your points for or make friends with someone who did.

I am not counting on the fact that the developers will give us the actual survey skill. But I would like to see a 3-5 charge survey tool only a Master Doctor or Master Combat Medic can use.

This limited use tool would be the perfect hybrid to the Master Doctor or Master Combat Medic as both these professions are part crafter.

The idea of a limited use survey tool is a very good one id agree with, only problem with ur proposal is that you want it limited to dr's and cm's.

It wouldnt be fair not to give it to the general population. I like this idea though Agent and Tex.

Bounty Hunters, Bio Engineers, Commandos, Squad Leaders all have multiple novices they must pull from to get master. there are others too. A proposal that benefits one specific/ or two inthis case, professions without those professions losing something to balance it will not happen unless the rest of the professions get something those 2 profs dont get.

its called balance and the developers are trying hard *so far as i can see* to balance everything out.

No, the game was never intended to be played with one account. This is why they call it an MMORPG. The key here is that it is "Massive Multi-player"; that is, the intent is to develop a community of players working together. The game cannot be played with one account, but thousands.

If you have a template that leaves you without the skill points to allow you survey, then you depend on someone to survey for you. You can pay this person for services rendered. Alternatively, you can visit one of the many vendors selling resources.

If you have a template that leaves you without the skill points that allow you heal yourself, then you team up with a player that has the medical skills necessary to keep you alive in a battle.

Let's be realistic, should every player be able to craft their own speeder bikes as well? Should every player be able to take bounty hunter missions from terminals?

The general populous (non crafters) do not have the same restrictions that a Master Doctor or Master Combat Medic has. Both these professions to master are at the high end of skill point investment.

Master Doctors and Master Combat Medics are part crafters. Master Doctors make and sell limited use stim/wound packs to the general populous and to other Doctors that do not wish to craft. A Master Combat Medic can only sell their wares to another Combat Medic that do not wish to craft.

After investing the points for either profession, as award here is a limited use tool for you to use to aid in your crafting. My concept is that only a Master in either profession should be able to wield the tool.

Bounty Hunters, Bio Engineers, Commandos, Squad Leaders all have multiple novices they must pull from to get master. there are others too. Bounty Hunters, Commandos and Squad Leaders are not crafters.

Bio Engineers can gain the necessary skillset (survey & vendor)without the loss not being able to master an elitecombat profession.

A Weaponsmith can have vendor, good survey skill, novice medic and novice scout and be a Master Fencer.

Master Doctor cannot have a vendor and be Master Fencer. They only have 2 choices either scout 1000 or artisan 0001.

A Weaponsmith has the choice whether or not to deal with others, a Master Doctors does not have this choice.

The game is all about how you spend your skill points. You don't HAVE to master a weapon profession to be able to fight. I'm someone who used to think that there should be a form of survey for medics, but I changed my mind some time ago. Where is it written that every noncombat profession should be able to survey and have a vendor and still be able to master a combat profession? Yes, the artisan based crafting professions can do this, but those professions do not have any abilities that are useful in combat. We have many abilities that are vital in combat (our healing). We also have the ability to make everything we need for those healing skills. For those abilities we have to pay skill points.

Yes, /medicalforage is useless. Even in beta, it was only good for making A level meds. How many of those do you see these days? The existence of that command does not show any intent by the devs to make us able to find the resources we need for anything above a Stim-A without investing in artisan.

Weaponsmiths cannot heal damage, wounds andstates or apply buffs. Doctors are more than a crafting class, their healing abilities balance itout.

I'm with Agent on this, and the devs killed this idea long ago.

Doc consumes 2 full trees worth of skill points. That don't leave much for scout (meat harvesting) , combat (meat hunting) , survey and merchant...

We have a somewhat unique profession that seems to beg for 2 accounts. That is why you can be sure no change will ever occur in our favor.

Because 2 accounts is exactly what SOE had in mind.

No profession is meant to be able to do everything alone. We are supposed to need the services and goods of other professions.

Assuming you actually have no way to fit survey into your template, how hard is it to ask a friend or a pay a newbie to help you place a harvester. If you are even the slightest bit social and are willing to pay a nominal fee for the service, it is available. It would actually make some new player feel useful and productive and save you from spending the skills. Travel and a few thousand cred or some free med services would probably do the trick.

How do Doctors make those packs? How does a Weaponsmith make their items? Both require X amount of resources, one comes with survey, one does not.

The skill point requirement for Weaponsmith balances itself out as well. It provides them with the ability spend the points required for medic. A Doctor does not the luxury of such things.

Providing the Doctor with the actual survey skill would be too much, as not providing the skill is not enough. Doctors are part crafter and part healer, would it not be natural for them to have the ability to use a limited charge survey tool, made by a Master Artisan from perhaps rare spawn resources?

Whether the choice is to provide the tool or not belongs with the developers. All I hope for is that they read and understand my point of view while deciding the fate of this.
