Thread: Focus Thread: Components without serial numbers

I had a friend from another server send me a tell tonight asking if heavy duty leather was worth anything. He had four portions of it, all WITHOUT serial numbers. He just looted it today.
Last night I looted 9 unserialed Heavy Duty Leather from a Nightsister.
It would be sweet if unserialed HDL were like 'joker cards' which could be used with any other serial numbers (think factory runs)..

So has anyone found out what this means??
What happens if u make a schematic and use the leathers without serials??
If you make the schematic either of these will happen:
- The leather is not buggy: the leather acts as a "similar" but not "identical" piece, making it impossible to run copies from the schematic (so it's a useless schematic) OR
- There is a bug: you can run copies from the schematic. If this happens, it is an exploit. The CSR's will descend upon you. Don't do it.
In short, don't make a schematic from unserialed leathers. Bad bad bad.

Server came up, I rechecked the leather. It now has (identical) serial numbers. Looks like it's not that big of a problem, the server merely forgets (at first)to assign serial numbers, or takes a while to catch up perhaps?
Is there a dev-generated forum post I can read about this? I was not aware that such activities had been officially outlawed.
