Secondly
- I only do this when i know i wont be able to play, meaning in the weekend when im doing something else than being stuck in front of the computer, i have set my toon up, as a Buff and Wound bot, thus providing a valued service for those needing wound healed.
- I have figured out a macro, That allows me to heal wounds at maximum speed (17 seconds in my case) and throw in onebuff between each wound heal.
- Unfortunately i leave for work just before server reboot, and i have no acces to SWG or remote acces to my computer, thus i cant setup my bot during workdays, unless i know when i get home that sitting in front of the PC is not my choice off fun that day.
- I dont charge a specifik amount for the buff/wound heals. But let people decide what they feel is fair for the service.

Actually, sounds good to me. I think it will change the profession some, and actually encourage Ent's to pay a little more attention to their character. In heavily populated areas ( Coronet, for example ), there will probably be competition and price-wars, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Ent's there end up having to go to a tip-only basis if they are AFK.
An additional bonus is that AFKs can't monitor current pricing and adjust their strategies, so if there is any price pressure it will force AFKs ( and by that, everyone else ) to minimal fees in an attempt to not be undercut by others.
Hopefully, it will encourage Ents to migrate to a number of cantinas, where competition isn't so fierce and they can charge more for their services. If so, I will happily applaud Ents on Mos Espa, Tattoine, and other places that currently are nothing but ghost towns. And happily pay them for their services, too.
Valid points, however unless you've been an entertainer (which I dunno if you have or not) it's really hard to understand the effects this will have of the professions.
Most of the AFKers are 2nd toons, where the primary has all the money. All an AFKer needs to do is set it for 1k, and live Entertainers still can't really compete with that. Most ATK Entertainers only have on account, so that is there sole purpose of income. And sure they could under cut the AFKers, but most people just don't care.
They aren't going to go into a cantina and look for the cheapest spam bot. They are going to go in, listen to the first one they see and leave.
Your points are valid, however the truth of the Entertainer Professions is that it just doesn't work like that.
I would say 95% of entertainers are second accounts. Stop the AFKers then you will have a very small amount of entertainers then people will whine that there are none and they all got wounds and BF.
Be careful what you ask for, You just might get it.

You guys always have to find something to whine about, don't you? With threads like that "HURR Me no healy"whine-fest a few threads down, I'm glad that someone's smart enough to make a buck off of healing. I've never had any problems with AFK docs/entertainers and don't get the hissy-fit everyone has about them. Did a recursive macro kill your father andsnog your mother?

Being an ATK Entertainer, I find it hard to believe that 95% of us are AFK. Most of the reasons you see AFKers in the cantina's is because we are else where in private city's doing RP stuff. There is no point to go out and play the game if we don't get tips, and we don't have fun.
The "real" entertainers are the "jedi" of the game....all in hiding, because there is no point to provide service and compete with someone that is AFK.
So I will ask for it, and I hope we get it sometime soon. The same thing happened with Doctor, no one used us for our other abilities, and now we have requests for NPC Wound Healers daily. I guess docs did have more skills then Buffing, and now people are finding out the hard way just how true that is.
You treat people like buffers, and thats what they turn into, when buffing no longer is a source of good income, those people left...fast. You treat docs like Crafters, and those people leave just as fast to make up for what was taken away. You treat a doc like a player, and odds are they will stick around for a bit. And I think the CU weeded out a lot of good players from our profession, but I also think it showed the true color of some.

Well I think that someone should put a stop to this RP stuff immediately. You should be in starports, med centers and cantina's interacting with people as intended.
I spent some time on this one but can't figure out what you're trying to say. You do realize that by RP he means Role Playing right? That he's saying he's in player city cantinas entertaining at the keyboard with other players, therefore intereacting with players as intended? Just what were you trying to say here?

Mmm, If I get plenty of tips as an AFK Buffer, Providing a good service to friends who rely on my Buffs and Heals even when I cant be there for them. Does this make me more succesfull and interesting than you even when I am not there?
Being an ATK entertainer in a cantina most anywhere is a study in futility. He's right in that trying to compete with the AFK ent bot is nearly useless as most players hold no loyalty to ents, (most but certainly not all). ANY time I'm in a cantina I'm usually in a hurry due to limited play time, so I look for the master entertainer and watch or listen to them, period. I try once in a great while to help a new entertainer, but usually their heal rate is too slow to suit my level of impatience so I simply focus on the master and leave. It's harsh, but truthful and probably what most combat players do. The only positive however is Ido tip ATK entertainers, but never tip AFK ents.
What fun would it be for the ATK ent to compete with that in a major cantina full of AFK ents?
And if you get plenty of tips as an AFK buffer from your friends, that doesn't make you successful or interesting, it simply makes you a player with loyal friends. In a major cantina you're simply one more AFK player amongst many. The ATK player WOULD be more interesting however as they may engage players in conversation, etc. Many times when i'm in a cantina I /addignore the AFK ent if they're spamming on and on about tips and the like. Usually
You seem to suggest that if you are not making money you dont want to play, Yet you want to nerf people who do make money for providing a service.
He's suggesting nothing of the sort. He's suggesting that competing with an army of AFK ents in a cantina isn't fun.

He used the word Jedi in quotes, meaning he is making a comparison between "jedi," who mostly grind in private so as to avoid appearing on the boards, and ATK entertainers, who are playing in private in player cantinas rather in public...

Sounds like you have been treated bad by an unhappy Customer. Gave you a funny look as you was healing him maybe ?

There are quite a few times I've disagreed with MyT_Chicken. He can be pompous and brutal andhe could write an instruction manual on how to flame someonewith nearly surgical precision. Be that as it may, he still deserves more than this.
Heis actually a developer of some note who took the time to meet most of the SOE devs at the player's breakfast. His investigative work on the profession of doctor fills many, many pages, and has benefitted a LOT of players who are trying to learn the intricacies of the profession. He's definitely not in school.
Once more, to be concerned about players being able to run macros which in turn nearly suffocate other players who try to play ATK in terms of earning potential, etc., (i.e. ent and doc buffbots), is a legitimate debate. I happen to disagree with him and most and believe that macros are okay in some cases, however I support his position and his right to speak it.

The SOE devs made the CU what it is.
He realized the CU was inevitable and began the tedius and thankless process of working through the bugs inherent within the CU and began logging them.
Odd thing, losing the respect of someone with 20 posts whose first words are antagonistic and inflammatory, who refuses to engage in intelligent discussions probably won't keep the man awake at night...

To be honest, post count is not the thing that matters. Its whats in the posts, and TarMangi apparently read through some (maybe all) of your posts. Take the time and read through his past posts and you will have a hard time finding flaming like he could find in your posts.

Intelligent discussion: If an AFK loot camper is owning a spawn, would you consider this taking away content from other players who are ATK? If an entertainer is playing AFK and giving inspiration buffs, is it taking away customers from ATK entertainers? If a doc is buffing AFK, is it taking away customers from ATK docs? If an NPC wound healer would be introduced, would it be rendering the doc wound healing skill useless?

, or if some one asked me for a buff while i was passing through a town id do it, but i never charged, i got tipped most the time, but NEVER asked for the money.

Thanks for the information and education. I've not been an entertainer, and don't have a second toon. I don't disagree that Entertainer is a profession in dire need of change, but I have no idea what the 'best' solution is. Currently, though, the proposed TC change doesn't sound like it will adversely affect the situation, although it may not help the situation any.
What this game could use is more cash sinks. Too many credits rolling around right now IMO.
