Thread: Who needs a DOC when you have a Jedi and Stim D's?

There is a scene in Timothy Zahn's later two-book series(I don't remember the name now, as I found it to be an unremarkable showing compared to his excellent trilogy) where Luke heals Mara Jade. It was more along the lines of wound healing, but it was an example of Jedi healing.

That said, since when has this dev team made the movies or the EU a priority when making game balance decisions? It's a matter of fun-factor. Doctors need to fill a unique role in a group, otherwise a group will take along a Jedi instead. We see this happen in other games, however usually the balance tips the other way. Hybrids are usually great for soloing, but group situations tend to favor a good mix of specialists.

Saturday, I had my first experience grouping with a Jedi healer when I took my ranger/carbineer out to Kashyyyk on a guild hunt. It was discouraging to this long time doc. It might be that we can't see just how much force the Jedi is using to accomplish all this healing. Maybe a doc in the same situation could heal more efficiently? However, we ran through the entire Rryatt trail quest series over the course of an evening with hardly a pause.

I guess that tanking classes could argue that Jedi have taken over their group role as well. The only time I caught aggro all evening was when I hit full-auto-area for grins and drew half the forest on me. The Jedi kept me alive though.

Why, ohh why should jedi heal better then docs? They use the force to heal, we use bacta, there's a big difference there. We are trained in the medical arts, they are trained in the wielding of the force.
I must admit that my knowledge of the SW universe is limited to the movies, but If someone could find a reference in EU to someone using the force to heal someone else, I will bow to that. But I find that very unlikely, since it would basicly be the same as using the force to veld to pieces of metal together.

Healing themself, possebly. Healing others, unlikely.

Oh that makes sense. So let's just make Jedi better than everyone at anything. Anakin was the best pilot, so Jedi should be the greatest pilots EVER. There was a Jedi healer in a book, so Jedi should be the best docs EVER. Aurra Sing, an ex-Jedi, was one of the best bounty hunters, sothey should be the best bounty hunters EVER. Yoda was such a great swordsman, so they should be the best fencers EVER. Jedi just mindtrick to get what they want, so they should be the best smugglers EVER. Obi-Wan tames a varactyl, should they should be the best creature handlers EVER. They fashioned the most complicated weapon in the galaxy, so they should be the best weaponsmiths EVER.

Is there any other way for Jedi to F- the rest of the professions in the game? If I missed any I apologize; I'm sure a Jedi would have caught it.

Actually you speak the truth, this is the way the game is now. We are slowly moving into a phase where jedi become more dominant than other professions. Even I, who swore never to actively grind toward jedi, will at my current pace reach jedi very soon. This is the result of casual grind, trading xp when I capped, but never actively grinding. A single jedi can, by itself, be a better tank than a TKA, better DPS than a rifleman and self suffcient enough so that he doesn't need a healer.

But cheer up, this is something I have pretty much accepted. It was obvious that this was the direction it was heading months ago and hopefully there will be some game left for the rest of us.

Key word here is Mastery. As someone mentioned a template here in an earlier post, only using 2 trees from healer can out heal us.

There're two scenes in the movies where Jedi Healing is used:

  • Ben Kenobi heals Luke after his encounter with the Sand People in Episode IV

  • Obi-Wan Kenobi attempts to heal Qui-Gon Jin after he is sabered by Darth Maul, but Qui-Gon says "It's too late."

The rules of Jedi Healing are that the Jedi must be touching their target and that it is a slow process that can not be repeated in a short amount of time. Generally Jedi Healing is exceptional, but Bacta (such as immersing someone in a Bacta tank) is better for healing a wounded person, e.g. Luke after his encounter with the Wompa on Hoth.

The Poison Mon Mothma had was very obscure so yes, the only way to heal it was with the Force. However, Jedi Healers of that level are very rare and very dedicated, and most are usually also Medical Practitioners, and are generally Masters.

In the context of this game I don't have a problem with a Master Jedi Healer outhealing us. I have a problem with 4xxx Healer out-healing us. In context of damage.

Jedi are specialist healers, doctors are hybrid healers. In all MMORPGs, specialists do better at their specialty than hybrids do. It's the way of things.

Lots of doctors get confused and think that being a "doctor" means you're a specialist. You're not. You got a lot of combat training in that profession in your armor certs and defense mods. Force Healing has none of these. Force Healing just cures and heals and that's it. That's why Jedi heal better than doctors do.

Sorry, but you know its true. DOC is nothing but a finishing piece to a template and thats it.

Do you have Doc in your template?

Edit:
Never mind, just read your other post. Its not a good idea to come to a profession forum and tell the people there they are useless.

Jedi Initiate gets KD Recovery. Novice Medic doesn't. No KD Recovery = You're flat on your rear for 30 seconds.

Jedi can also heal while KD'ed.Everyone and theirmotherKDs.

Healer is a "focus" , just like Doctor is.

Ok Sayic, I responded to the PM you sent me. Either stop trolling my posts and making negative comments about me, or I will not discuss it with you again but leave it to the moderators. In your above statement you pretty much admitted you are flaming, you intend to be flaming, and according to your signature you are proud you already got banned for it.
Consider this as an option to stop the flamewar and just stop trolling my posts.
As I already wrote in my PM, the forums are not the place to roleplay a jerk - you can roleplay in game as much as you want, but here in the forums you are not dealing with Eskona anymore, you are dealing with Eskie.
The line between roleplaying a bad guy and actually insulting other people is pretty thin, and by trolling my posts and making negative comments you are stretching the word "roleplaying" by far too much.

good thing Lucas decided to cut the scenes in ROTJ of Luke helping Leia apply makeup, or Jedi would have their eye on being the best ImageDesigners too.
