I dont know but i am very disappointed by the decision to put implants in players. This game seems to be getting farther and farther away from the actual Star Wars. Oh well just my two cents. I hope the CU is going to be good but have a feeling a lot of the players like me who have been around since inception are going to be very disappointed with it
Why would you be disappointed? Implants existed with Anakin and with Luke, thus the technology was around for years, making it pretty commonplace to get a cybernetic replacement if one loses an appendage.
Actually amputation in combat would rock. Imagine losing an arm and having to get a cyber replacement to continue combat??? Also instead of cloning, perpetual ressurection would be pretty cool. That way your body would carry mulitple scars, etc too.
/gasp!!!! You forgot Darth Vadar!!! Well technically speaking Anakin is DV, but not according to Obi Wan!
the concept of cybernetics is not bad - u can find it in SW (Luke and Vader). but honestly the screenshots i saw yet reminded me more of the wooden leg style of old pirate movies. i dont think they dared to install such a device on Vader.
it would have been a nice line for crafting/attaching those stuff for docs and bio engies. lets say the cheap low level ones look mechanic - the high level master ones are more appropriate to the players appearance (more like Vader and Luke's). but this is gone now i guess.
So actually when I mentioned Anakin I included Darth Vader...from a certain point of view...

Should our correspondent be raising this with them ? It cant possibly be too late to change this can it ?
He has
But, for the record, it probably is too late to change it now. The RotW expansion has already been coded and finalized and all that, just needs the testing to be done to tweak it and polish it. Changing the way the Cybernetics are handled(i.e. implementing a questing system for Docs/BEs/DEs to be part of) is probably too much work for them to do before launch.
It's something that should've been done to begin with, adding content for Player Professions, but since they already went the route of NPCs doing the work we're pretty much stuck with it.

Oh, so you heard?
The entire CU was designed to piss you, and only you, off.

MMORPG.com: Another exciting new feature is that of cybernetic implants. Explain how the implants will work.
Dallas: You will be able to earn these implants by completing quests on Kashyyyk. Once you have them, you can get them installed by NPC Cybernetics doctors at the larger Medical Centers in the galaxy. The implants will have various combat-related uses: some will be better for Melee professions, others will be better for Ranged professions. Installing one will give you some statistical enhancements as well as a special combat move or two.
MMORPG.com: How will implants affect the current player equipment? For example, will equipping a leg implant limit a player on the types of leg armor he may use?
Dallas: Cybernetics will replace armor altogether – so a savvy player will have to decide which to use. The trade-offs will be interesting, so you may want to give up a few points of armor in return for a special burst-run ability or a power attack.
Woohoo for more NPC Profession Content! Wait, we're not NPC's! We're the other ones!
Why is this not a quest similar to RIS for armorsmiths? Become cybernetic-certified, you know? This is just like the Inspiration Buff concept. We are either being turned INTO NPC's or having our abilities neutered in favor of giving them to NPC's. Thank you, SOE.
you're only 1 of about 3 or 4 professions that were vying for the ability to have a part in this. (Bio-engineer and DE being the other 2, unless you count CM though i'm not sure how much of an issue it is there)
Personally i would have liked to see something that required multiple professions to go in together to do this sort of thing, eg: DE makes the arm, BE applies/crafts in something to make it "compatable" with the PC or makes a part of it, and doc applies it to the player.
