MMORPG.com: Another exciting new feature is that of cybernetic implants. Explain how the implants will work.
Dallas: You will be able to earn these implants by completing quests on Kashyyyk. Once you have them, you can get them installed by NPC Cybernetics doctors at the larger Medical Centers in the galaxy. The implants will have various combat-related uses: some will be better for Melee professions, others will be better for Ranged professions. Installing one will give you some statistical enhancements as well as a special combat move or two.
MMORPG.com: How will implants affect the current player equipment? For example, will equipping a leg implant limit a player on the types of leg armor he may use?
Dallas: Cybernetics will replace armor altogether – so a savvy player will have to decide which to use. The trade-offs will be interesting, so you may want to give up a few points of armor in return for a special burst-run ability or a power attack.
Woohoo for more NPC Profession Content! Wait, we're not NPC's! We're the other ones!
Why is this not a quest similar to RIS for armorsmiths? Become cybernetic-certified, you know? This is just like the Inspiration Buff concept. We are either being turned INTO NPC's or having our abilities neutered in favor of giving them to NPC's. Thank you, SOE.

/agree. I'd LOVE to have a quest similar to the DWB just for docs! Imagine fighting your way through all that where you are the focal point, in order to gain certs in cybernetics! That would rock...
As it is, the NPC docs deserve to have all the glory, I mean they work hard for it... (NOT!)... lol.

Wow that would be cool. Have to fight your way to the cybernetics lab just to install the cybernetic on one of your group members. It could be a quest just like getting the jet pack or mando armor. Go around and have to loot the items from various NPC. SOE could have a good control in the amount of these items that drop to keep them rare. I dont know about other servers but there arent alot of these 2 items floating around. At least I rarely see them.

I cannot believe this!! We get shafted up one side and down the other, then they add NPC docs in the Med Centers for this?!
Does any other profession have NPC characters?! What a slap in the face.

Geeez - first docs lose all crafting, now we dont even get to implant BE-made cybernetics. Bah! This definitely needs a revision before RoW hits the shelves. Cybernetics sounded like a great new crafting content for BEs and docs, now its just some "go to location X, kill mob Y and talk to NPC doc Z afterwards".

He has
But, for the record, it probably is too late to change it now. The RotW expansion has already been coded and finalized and all that, just needs the testing to be done to tweak it and polish it. Changing the way the Cybernetics are handled(i.e. implementing a questing system for Docs/BEs/DEs to be part of) is probably too much work for them to do before launch.
It's something that should've been done to begin with, adding content for Player Professions, but since they already went the route of NPCs doing the work we're pretty much stuck with it.

Seems to me that, wherever you get an actual part for a quest reward, you should get a 'placeholder' schematic instead, which you should first bring to a DE to 'craft' and to a Doc to 'install'. Doesn't even have to be actual crafting and installing, just two things that need to be done with the item before you can attach it.
Even that would be better than just getting it from a NPC.
