Thread: Hey Doctors This Is Why I Don't Tip You
I am not saying all doctors are like this, but I am.
If I heal people without asking, I dont expect a tip, I do it because I want to do the person a favour, a benefit from this used to be that I got XP, but I dont need those points anymore (besides there are way better ways of gaining than the med center). My motivation is to help, if you appreciate the help and the time this saves you sitting in the med center, say thank you, tip if you want to but thats not required at all.
If I come by a medcenter to heal my own wounds (I rarely use my Master Doctortag due to some bad experiences)and someone starts healing me, always give them a tip, eventhough I am very capable of healing my own wounds. Ido it becuaseit saves me charges on my ownwoundpacks. You wont even though that person probably justsaved you time/money/resources, fair enough, people are different, and with the current system there is nodirect way of charging for a service like healing.
You are probably not the medic/doctors first, he/she is used to not beeing tipped, I am quite sure that the vast majority of doctors who you have not tipped havent even mentioned it.
I have tried charging people, people with several major wounds, and been called a greedy **edit** for doing so, I have evenbeen specificly asked to come to the med center because some required healing, stopped what I was doing, gone there to heal and done so without getting even aslight tip, because as the person said "Its your job". I didnt say anything but Idid ignore himwhen he asked again later.
Medics unlike the rest of the crafting classes stand a chance of beeing unpopular and frowned upon for charging for their products, I dont expect a tip unless I am specificly asked to assist.
But the discussion is actually beating a dead horse, some see doctors as slaves who should feel blessed for the opportunity to heal their wounds, others appreciate the favour/assistances, you dont.
I have 2 computers and 2 accts. The last few days I ahve been at mission terminals, and some medic type will sidle up to my Combat Stunt Wookie (TM) sneak out a droid... and start throwing heals on him.
I tend to let him get decently wounded before I use my C/B woundpacks on him someplace...
All but 1 guy got very angry when I asked nicely to please not heal me becasue I had a private physician.
"But I need Xp!"... so does my friend.
One guy got me when both my characters were afk in a camp ( went to MCDonalds to grab lunch quick)... when I came back he was sitting there, and asked me for 800 cr. for healing.
One of the fundimental reasons we don't get money.. IS because so many medics do it backwards.. heal first. .ask for money later... and they heal people that don't want to get healed.. or can't figure out... which of the 15 healers to tip.
I have a friend that feels bad for med center people.. She tends to go there.. and she tips... Now a 800-1000 cr tip is pretty good... but when split between 7 people it is not. This is an issue in entertaionment too.. you bring is a nice tip.. and sometimes there are 14-20 musicaians and dancers... it gets split up pretty small.
Who gets how much of that money? Do the players have to try and count al lyte wounds each individual healer fixes.. break out a calcualtor and do percentages?
I know several people who don't tip because of the difficulty of figuring this part out.
Talk to people first.. you may find that there are far more people willing to pay for less downmtime (especially high volume doc heals) if you go about it the right way... with diagnose... you can even calcualate the time it will take you to heal someone.,

I'm a master Doctor .. and as hurting for cash as I know the medic professions can be... I agree with this post.
As a real-life (true-story) example...
I was walking down the street and some guy yelled at me.. I turned around and he dumpes a glob of shoe shine on my shoes. Furious I insist he remove it. He does ... and asks for 10 dollars for the service.
Still, don't hate the medics who ninja heal you in the med center... I mean you're in the med center...you want healing... most likely they just want the exp. And no, you shouldn't be EXPECTED to tip if you didn't ask for healing.
If you aren't a medic... PLEASE keep in mind that while in the med center low level medics are often overwhelmed and SWIMMING in /tells of
- "heal me"
- "over here"
- "major wounds"
- "hello I've been here for like 30 seconds anyone home?"
- "You guys suck"
- "HEAL ME NOW!"
They are often 'running' to keep up with very rude people and just lose track of which of the 15 people insist that they were next. Even if you dont tip ... a kind thank you is always appropriate.
If can afford to tip, and the ninja heal didnt somehow offend you... then tip (just makes you look like a nice guy). And yes I would understand how charging for a nija heal is offensive (just like my shoe shine experience above).
what is with people self healing anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is so gay to heal yourself
all u do is waste your meds
u get no exp for it
others get exp for the ninja heals thats why they do it
i really dont care if u tip me or not but it would be nice
i'm thinking along the lines of 2-3 creds per wound depending on how fast the person is
Worrirr
Yup, it's not the "I'm here and they have a big wound so I'll just patch it with a pack quick" that people are demanding payment from. Since I reached master doctor I hardly ever go in the med center. I'm usually running missions to pay for my costs. What I encountered was constant /t's to come heal people in the med center. I don't mind it too much, but most of them consisted of "can u heal me plz" and I'd reply that I'm 2-4km outside of town and won't be back for a while and I get "comon it'll only take 2 mins plz!." Then the times I did go back it usually went "thx" or "thx, I'd tip but I'm poor." Or there's the great "come hl my pet plz" and then they don't tip...well Bounty Hunter Creature Handlers sure don't make any money so I should just graciously give my resources and time to them when I'm in the middle of doing missions to pay for my harvestors and factories.
I think the most irritating is when I was running missions I stopped by the med center to see if anyone needed training. There were no medics there and one person there says "good a doctor" then tells me their wounds (the worst was 99 quickness followed by 34 strength, rest were under 15.) I open my pack, and toss a quickness D on him. I then go on to a few others there who had large wounds to help them out a bit. Now I was doing missions. When I do missions I only carry one stack of each med (either D or E packs) and no resources, I leave them at home (which is several minutes from town.)
This person then starts saying that they have more wounds and I reply that I'm not going to use a D pack on 34 and lower wounds (I like to save some for medics that happen by.) Then they start telling me that I have to heal them, like I'm obligated to do it because I'm a doctor. I get bantered some more and how I'm cheap because I won't use my D packs to heal his small wounds (all the while I'm tipping back all the tips I'm being given because missions pay the bills.) The person's friend comes in and starts healing him. They're both saying "healing in a hospital? preposterous!" and the like, while I continue patching major wounds up and talking to some of the people there. As he and his friend leave, his friend /tips me 1k, which I promptly tip back. The next day I see that guy running around town with "Novice Bounty Hunter" title and 2 Rancor's in tow.
Anymore I heal people that ask nicely, help others, are courteous, etc.. Otherwise I won't bother. I removed my self from the search feature (no more com hl me plz) and people know that I'm around if they need me.
Oh and quote of the day for yesterday when I was struggling to get my factory to run the schematic (and pull from crates grrrrrr!):
"Hi Doc"
"plz heal me"
Next time he should try being a bit more thoughtful in his approach.
I'd say most doctors aren't in it for the money, and would really just like to be thought of and be treated with a bit of respect. It's not a right to be healed when in a med center (or whenever you're near a doctor) it's a benefit. I'm enjoying my new character (an aspiring commando/tka mon calamarian -don't see those too often!) where I don't get treated like people's personal medical droid.
{/end of rant!}
Arkianus -
Your idea of 1.5cr per wound seems a bit low. Now I can only make Health/Action would packs but if a guy wants 5 wounds cleared, or 15, means the same wound pack & resources get used up.
I've put a little more thought to this and feel that you should be charging the following:
Cost of Resources (x) 3 or 4 credits per resource (+) "x" for profit (/) buy the number of charges. Round off if you like
That seems like the most logical way of doing things.
Vortexala -
Yes I did.
Hunnicutt -
Sure I could say something, but having the onus shouldn't be on me. Just stand there and do nothing. BELIEVE ME you will have guys wounded to hell and back sitting there who will pipe up real quick with "Hey Hunnicutt, can i get a Health heal?!". To which you say, sure, that'll be "X" credits.
So I don't think you'll run into a problem of people not asking because they don't know.
And actually I do have an R2 droid with a Med component. But I like to sit in the Med Center when I'm nearby sometimes for role-playing value. Plus I get to chat with other adventurers, maybe form a group or learn something new. Also, sometimes I like to sit there and read a comic while I heal a very small amount of wounds (single digits) ![]()
Thrustfuzion (and a lot of others) -
Are you all really fighting for XP in the Med Center all the time? Why don't you guys join a group and go out and help guys in combat? That sounds like an exciting way to heal and get mucho XP out in the field.
Again, I'm not a Doctor, but I feel your Med Center exploits should be strictly for pay. Sure you guys aren't Weaponsmiths making mucho cash, but you SHOULD be getting some money in!
I have a master dr ,except for crafting...**edit** that crafting... and also and asspiring commando on a diff server now with that character if hes badly wounded ill just go to the medcenter sit on a bed and go to the store/go running/ go eat/ do something else and wait for the medcenter to heal the wounds. I really am not asking for people to heal me if they do thats fine if they dont thats fine too. Also as my doc i will go around and heal people like that for fun, i dont expect to get tipped an frankly i dont get tipped hehe.
I think also that setting is a big factor in this whole problem. My Dr is spoiled, i live in anchor and the tavern there is a combo medcenter/cantina. It truely is great cause i will just sit down and chat and heal and listen to music and /tendwound someone that has a small wound and not care about the mind dmg cause im listening to music. I really think that all cities should scrap the seprate cantina medcenter and have a tavern. Im telling you the stress lvl goes way down.
Hiya, master surgeon here, workin on combat medic now also.
couple comments.
Novice medics dont waste your time in a Med Center. Its pointless. Why go through the aggravation and hassle of listening to complaints all day for measly amounts of xp. Find a brawler, be his/her pal. Follow em around like a puppy and heal them. Do missions with them tosplit themoney. Critter handlers are your pals too. Pets have lots of HAM. great xp. Cant find either of the above? Go get a faction. grab a cheap pet, do missions and heal the pet. IE stormtroopers have 9k+ HAM. Thats great xp and cheap in faction points. Get out and see the worlds, stop staring at the white walls. Combat xp while healing is a good thing for all you aspiring combat medics, you'll need it for ranged support.
Combat is dangerous though!! - /dragincapacitatedplayer - learn it live it love it.
Cheapskates - Flat rate in advance. my rates are 2k at the med center if i'm there healing myself or my group 5k out in the field - What? is your time more vaulable than mine when you come bugging me for a heal when i'm doin something? If ya dont like the price it's no skin off my nose, I dont have the wounds to worry about. Ya get lippy, well /addignore is your best friend. I got about 30 on my list so far. is this cruel, yep it is.
My question is why do you even bother? Healing in med centers is one of the slowest methods of grinding exp and quite expensive as well.
Pick up a group to heal in combat or hang out with a CH friend to heal his pets. As expensive as doctors are now I don't see any reason to be healing everyone you see.
hehe i hang out in med center for social aspects. I tell people" i don't live off tips " . I've been selling survaying and selling resources for a living since i started. I am a reletivly casual player and it works out pretty well. every now and then i go check my harvesters sell the resources at resonable prices( dependant on raratiy and quality too) and log off. works very well during the week where i'm at work most of the time.
Iknew as a medic i'd have a hard time making money and i will need resources. I also want to be a chef in the future so artisan dosn't bother me. I do have some combat skillsi used for some starting out cash in the begining but i'm mostly a pacifist now.I mostly do survay missions while i check my harvesters.
anyways in med center i simply ask "who is a paying customer?" and then i know who to heal or just ask "who needs healing" or just randomly click till i found someone to heal. I don't have problem giving out wound/stim pack free. with all that med crafting xp i don't mind some UXP (if it works) . I recently managed to afford a med factory , took me a while shoping around till someone said 30k =>
now i'm starting to dismantle some of my harvesting oporation hoping to go find rare resources on more hostile planets.also changing my harvesting strategy toward raising artisan to chef.
and man if you want to heal yourself i don't mind helping. since if i'll try to live off tips i'll go bankrupt.
Lots of good posts in here (stoped reading half way through the thread though as it got too long
). Let me just add my two insignificant cents...
These days, I'll heal only people who are really wounded. If they happen to be nice to me, and tip (note that being nice is an absolute must; tip is a benefit but not in itself sufficient), I will go out of my way to heal you up all the way and send you out of med center patched up as soon as possible. On the other hand, once you are down to 40-50 wounds or less, I leave it at that. Either younger medics/doctors will take care of you, or you can wait it out. It's not worth my time/resources to bother with you.
I think the problem is that most people don't realize the amount of effort and resources that go into medical professions.
The other day, someone popped up his storm troopers in the med center and demanded they be healed. Normally, I would ignore such a person, but I was working off the last few k needed to my Master Wound Treatment, so I pulled out my stim-D's and started healing them for 1000+ hp a pop. I healed two of them and the thrid was left with about 40hp to go. I figured this was quite acceptable and left it at that. So, the guy sits there for about three more minutes, waiting. Then starts asking, again, that someone heals his troopers. After spending about 8 stim-D's on his troopers, this irked me and I kindly pointed out that his troopers are healed up. His reply? "One still needs healing." !!!! Well, at this point I gave him a piece of my mind and basically told him that there is no way in hell that I'm wasting my 1200 heals on 40 hp damage. So, in his infinite arrogance, he finally tips me 1200 cr with a comment... "Here's your 1200." *grrr....*![]()

I am Master Doctor, I get no XP from healing others, by your definition it is gay and a waste of my meds to heal others too.
People buy stims and packs so they may be selfsufiicient, so they wont have to wait to find a medic, in my opinion a ton more repsect to those who do that, than those who demand treatment in the free clinic.
Healing pay pr wound is a bad idea, as some one said, expenses are the same no matter of you heal 1 wound or 300 (assuming you are using high end pakcs)
