Thread: Design Topic: Player City locations
Moved to join one that is about 4k from two cities, as the shuttleports will compensate.
my crew is doing the middle of nowhere approach will be practically paying people to move there until week 3 and 30 population and shuttle port :/ but once past that should be smooth sailing....or we could just be patient and find another city hiting 30 in 3rd week and take it over.....

I'm a citizen of Nabubu City, and we've been planning this out for years. ![]()
Right now we are located about 6500m west of Moenia (just about equidistant from the Lake Retreat). We figured it would work to our advantage to jump on a scenic, flat area far from NPC cities, and we are very happy with our decision to do so. This way, coming to visit Nabubu will feel likeyou are actually in a differnt part of Naboo, rather than just a suburb of a pre-existing city. Also, we were paranoid that player cities would have to be at least 5000m away from an existing city, so we were hedging our bets on that possibility as well.
Sure, those long runs out there since launch haven't been a picnic, but we're almost to the promised land now. ![]()
I would urge the dev team to make shuttles available to player cities as soon as possible--for the Urban Planner, it should be one of the first schematics the proffession is able to build. Player cities will have a difficult time operating in remote areas without such access. Without access, you will see the most successful and most populous cities near established game cities. I say this because it is the path of least resistance--and players will take that path over any other over time.
I will move to a town, but only after it has shuttle access. Also, faction will play a role in my decision, and founder maturity.
Hi Q3P0,
we have actually started (some days ago) building a wookiee city on a very uncommon planet over 5km from the next town with a starport. Nobody got a problem with running that much miles cause everybody knows that after player mounts and speederes come out the distance won't feel that much anymore.
The purpose of the city is clear - bringing a bit of Kashyyyk to a non Kashyyyk universe
. We started building it cause we think wookiees need a safe place where they could share their thoughts and their needs without needing to fear ANY thread cause a community is stronger then an individual. It will be an RP oriented town with bars, a shrine and so on... (thanks for the endorian styled gardens cause they fit our needs a bit *g*)

I just wanted to get a feel for what your intentions are once player cities go live. I’ve put up a poll today. Also I have a more general question for you.

Many people have placed their player houses as close as they could to major cities so that they would be relatively near to existing shuttle ports. Advanced player cities will be able to have their own shuttle ports. I’m wondering if you think new player cities will develop in remote areas thereby putting shuttle locations around the entire planet or do you think they will just start up where players already are?
In other words, will you move your house to new location for a player city or will the player city come to you?
Also do you already have plans for your player city or are you going to look for one that other people have built? What is going to motivate you to join one city over another? City Perks (shuttles, banks, cloning centers, etc)? Tax Rates? Location? Neighbors? Local attraction (battlefield, themepark, dungeon)? Faction of most of members?

To make the player-city function viable, you should include a shuttle-port as one of the first "basic" buildings available.
You can limit the use of the shuttle-port potential "plague", by having a "minimum distance from nearest shuttleport" restriction on placing the "basic" level version of this.
Without the ability to place a shuttle-port as one of the core buildings in a player-city, I do not believe you will find any remote cities being built, except by the absolute most dedicated PA's.
We started our 'city' roughly 2 months ago (or longer) at the 0, 0 mark on Talus. That's a 2700m hike from the Daeric Starport. The shuttle port to the remote city was our intention all along - even though I didn't agree with it at the time being a novice smith trying to lure customers. We chose that spot specifically because no one would be around for a while and we'd have room to grow.
I can't wait to see our port get some usage.
Any word on how many houses/installations will be needed for a shuttle port to be able to be placed?
Also, will ticket fees go towards city taxes, etc?
Hehe, good luck colonizing Tattoine. Its nearly impossible to find a place level enough to plant a personal harvester. Most flat areas are covered with harvesters, etc so unless some way of flattening land (bulldozers maybe) are implemented to allow people to build you will see everyone migrating to Naboo, Rori, and maybe Talus/Corellia. Tattoine will always be a wilderness planet.
As for me, I plan to look for another player city close to waypoints I want to reach (like Theme Parks, dungeons, etc) as I would like to base somewhere that I can get where I want to go without a 20 minute run but also have shuttleport services to get to bigger cities. I assume you will have shuttleports but not star ports available in player cities so that people will at least still need to travel to the basic cities for off planet travel.
