Thread: Design Topic: Player City locations
----Yes I think people will move to cities since they will be even closer to a shuttle port..... right now people are still a good 1000 m from a shuttle port or more
----Already have plans for a city. We already have a map, www.SWGMidgar.com if you want to look at it..... we planned to be far away from the major cities so people wont build in our town unless they want to be apart of the town.
---- Since I partly run the city, I wont be moving to another one... but the goal of the city is to have a place for a good amount of cool people to hang out at and have things right there for convience... we accept all professions and all factions.... only requirement is for the people to be a good gamer (good as in not mean, not a jerk)
---- For motoviations... I plan on trying to get the shuttle port to be the first thing up and running... second thing will be the Wall Market (Midgar Mall.... all vendors place in one spot/one house)
---- I think the most motivation to join a city would be the size, and how the members of town act (some guilds have all cool people, some have a bunch of jerks)
hope this helps Q.... post more about player cities please!
We have discussed thi with our PA and the real result is wait and see how they work.
We may start one ourselves in a remote area. But that depends on how demanding the path is to do that, and if any are willing to take it. I think you will not see the amount that you would hope since it looks like it will require someone to change proffession to something that sounds more like a job then fun to me but we will see.
If not we have discussed a combined city with other PA's that we get along with.
Beyond that we will jusmake a group decision to join up with another existing city.
Either way weplan to go remote since the biggest reason to be close to town for us is just the runnning thing.
My organization is already in full city prep... we've moved most of our homes and other structures to a relatively remote area (roughly 3.5km from a major npc city). We wanted to be far enough away to avoid overcrowding, but still be close enough to travel without a shuttle to the starport city (via mounts/vehicles when available).
We're excited about many of the coming features (shuttleport, cloning center, bank, merchant tents, zoning restrictions, and the politics).
<NIO> Northern Imperial Outpost is a Player Association that is located 2600m North East of Theed, Naboo. We are gonna be a player city and we are planning to have all the player city perks. Our actual city plan isn't complete but is in the works. I think that 2600m is remote enough for a shuttleport. Also we are an Imperial guild and are currently accepting members. If you would like to join contact Gerrard or Zenmetsu in an in-game /tell or mail. Also we are on the server Bria.
Im gonna get novice Politician, start a small city with just a few guild members, and keep it like that till i can get a cloning facility / shuttle port... then once I hit that, I'll go big time (hopefully
)
I dont really intend on goin master Politician (well maybe, I cant recall the skill tree that well)but it will be hard to get people to come to the city because it will be on Dantooine, and probably nowhere near POI's or dungeons...
I’m wondering if you think new player cities will develop in remote areas thereby putting shuttle locations around the entire planet or do you think they will just start up where players already are?
Not likely, since a player city needs around 25 residents to even qualify for a shuttle port you're still gonna find them developing in areas which can be accessed on foot or hopefully by a mount. One thing you will see is cities developing around and along the shores of a body of water as people enjoy the views they provide. I have seen some players intentionally moving their pre-planned cities to new areas.. personally I picked the spot where I wanted to live in the first week and I never intend to move even if a player city springs up around me that I don't like. I will not be bullied from the land which I was the first at and have been there since the second week of release.
In other words, will you move your house to new location for a player city or will the player city come to you?
A player city has utterly nothing to offer me aside from a shuttle port which might be handy but ultimately when mounts and vehicles come out I'll be less than 2 minutes from Theed. Mission terminals? thats not how i make my money. Trainers? I'm already maxed. A crafters region with a 25% assembly bonus? Nice but I could just have a workshop in another city which I travel to in order to benefit from it however since I use factories theres not much need for the bonus. Ultimately it boils down to this.. I'd be paying taxes for things that aren't any use to me and I enjoy my current location too much.
What is going to motivate you to join one city over another?
It'd need to be a more attractive location than where I currently am, something which will be hard to top. I have a vast lagoon surrounding me on all by one side, palm trees all around, a gorgeous beach less than 20 paces away and a unspoil view of the sunrise and majestic mountains where the sunsets. It's also so far away from the city that we rarely get harvesters spoiling the view and of course we have the sound of the ocean surrounding the area. Basically if it gets any better I'll be very very impressed.
In response to the comment "Tat will always be a wilderness planet"
I do agree that there are many hills etc and it is hard in some spots to colonize... However, there are a few very key spots that will be easily habited. There is a pod racer track on tat do not forget.

We were quite disappointed that our city will be paralyzed for an entire month before we could make it viable. As it is, when we heard that we would not be allowed to build a city near a major city (because of overlap), we dutifully packed up and moved to the sticks. It was at that point that we discovered that we would not have a shuttleport for one month. That is a very long time in this game.
I do not have an easy solution. As designed so far, Politicians have become by far the slowest levelling profession in the game by many orders of magnitude, and cities will be growing too slowly to make them viable for many groups. Out of over 50 supporters that have been called "rabid" at times, over 20 of them balked when I told them we were moving to Selonian Arch on Corellia and that we would not have a shuttleport for over a month.
