And even most 'wedding singers', church choirs, or even cover bands will have written copies of the music (a copy rightable document) and if you read the small print on music it will say you are allowed to play it for small groups (and most folks would include churches and weddings as small) as long as the material is not recorded for sale.

Most churches nowadays purchase blanket performance rights for copyrighted material, but I don't know if SOE would be able to purchase one of these for Galaxies or not (it would probably be terribly expensive). Even if they did, it would only solve the problem of music from the distributers, it wouldn't cover people in-game who compose music and then want it to prevent others from using it in-game or RL.

Make them dance for Jabba and if he doesnt like it he kills them

When I first did the jabba missions back in the day, I was a Dancer/Pistoleer. Only reason I wanted in to see jabba was to see if he'd react to dancing. I think since it was a part of one of the films, that this actually would be a cool idea. Like when he doesnt like your flourish (Like the newer herkey jerky ones no one uses anyway) the floor opens up a lil more till you're eaten by a rancor or given a prize.

Thanks for replying, TH.

Of course tools to recreate actualmelodies is out of the question, we have a flourish system. But it would be nice if different instruments had the same soundfile, different pitch. Ie., a slitherhorn sounds like a traz, except it has a slightly higher pitch. Would be nice to at least have tools to control pitch and tempowhile playing existing songs (I believe this is the true purpose of an ommnibox, in canon).

Givethem two player dances - let two players join together and perform a dance! It takes two to tango you know TH.

Two player dances is something we would very much like to see, but that is all new technology. It is something we will see at some point, but I dont know when...

Ah, understand what you're thinking, but such a dance is feasible with the current system! It doesn't have to be an actual tango, the actual tango would require the two models touch....

If you ever do any motion captures again, just have two people dancesimultaneously, movementsbeing recorded. In the end, you'd want two different versions of the same dance, and their respective flourishes are unique yet compliment the other dance.Due to character's being different sizes, the people being captured couldn't touch. So the female could do a spin, and the male would sort of gesture like they're going to put their hand on the person's head,in the middle of a dance move. See, then two player-dancers could time it, position themselves, and dance the same flourishes together, and it would only look like they would be skill animating together, when they technicallywould not.

I'm not a dancer myself, just a musician, but I've heard customers and male dancer's commenting on wanting a "masculine" dance. Lots want that, anda "feminine" one to go with it.

*readsTH's original post, skips to the end to reply- completly ignoringeverything previously said, with a slight feeling of remorse*

IMO i think that the entertainer may be the most overlooked profession by the players themselves- not the devs. Simply because there is more 'action' in the combat professions and so the problems are more noticble. But really the entertainer prof has no problems that I can see. (by the way i had a brief stint in entertaining before the quaility of life ate at my wookiee soul) The only flaw I ever saw was the complete lack of income. it just really is amazing, when i was playing music I felt like a real musician in a Holiday Inn except being payed less.

What the entertainer prof needs is a Story arc. Seriously. The idea of having the entertainers audition is cool, hard to be objective but still cool. Yet I believe a story arc would be the best thing to enliven all those afk entertainers. If not a Story Arc then a really large Quest.. something that can be done overtime w/ a good level of income (not ostentatious because really entertainers don't need much if they are just entertaining... cool clothes, instruments... anything else?)

Lets say the Quest starts out with an audition at a small town hotel... say Mos Entha (Lady Valarian could be a key character here)and then, if the entertainer makes it past the casting director, he moves on and plays in a small band session. He must please his boss... and his audience. After a couple gigs his boss recomends him to the local Cantina bartender who then hires the entertainer. He plays the cantina for a bit and then the Bartender sends him to a bigger city (maybe Bestine) and he tries out for the hotel there (maybe meeting the current mayor at the same time and having a side quest there) after succesfully pleasing the hotel manager he could move forward, whether to the Cantina or maybe on to a larger setting... the big one-- Mos Eisely!

~An additional twist could be competition with other REAL LIVE players.~

~When growing to different gigs the payout and entertainment stress gets higher~

Once the entertainer gets to Mos Eisely the entertainer must vye for attention... amongst all the hopefulls (NPC or Real players). Here we can get to know some EU and movie characters like the bartender (i can't believe ive forgotten his name... Wurer i think?) Wurer is a very demanding manager and asks you to go on several minor paying gigs to different settlements (maybe a bunch of moisture farmers need a wedding solo band, or Jawa's want to celebrate their newest prophitable transaction). Once you've appeased Wurer he gives you an amazing reward (perhaps a really good instrument or dazzling outfit [bling bling anywone])

Each planet could have their own quest... though following the same pattern.

You could also add in an additional roleplaying aspect... this is a mmo RPG, right?... you can have the entertainer follow two different paths: 1. the straight laced entertainer in it only for theart and music2. a wild entertainer who is interested in spices, gets involoved with Bib Fortuna, twi'leks, and smugglers.

So let me try and recap:

1. Entertainers need a large scale quest to enliven their prof and put more depth into a shallow but good aspect of the game.

2. Entertainers audition to NPC's in a Small town setting, the entertainer then works up to the Big Time- meanwhile earning petty cash and minor advancements in instrument tech or limited special effects for their show.

3. Movie and EU character's pop in such as Lady Valarian, Wurer, Bib Fortuna (especially interested in Twi'leks for Jabba)

4. The last step to the Big Time is wrought with missions that weed out the good from the excellent (i.e Jawas might get mad if you play the wrong celebration song) Competition could be a big factor here.

5. Roleplaying could play a big part resulting in a great fullfilling carreer or maybe a big burnout of epic proportions?

Just my ideas here

Jabba's palace should function as a Cantina. And those with good Jabba faction should gain the benefit of being able to hang out in a cool place like that. Entertainers should also gain some benefit from performing there.

Thats the kind of cool content the game needs. Just little things....like making his throne room a Cantina.

And having Rancor duels in the rancor pit !!!

I've had an idea for a while, but never really pushed it until i saw this thread. But before anyone reads it, just so you're all aware THIS IDEA OBVIOUSLY HAS BUGS AND FLAWS, AS WITH MANY THINGS IN THE GAME.. hopefully it can be taken into consideration and solve several problems... But if not, its just something to think about. I dont go on the boards often so I dont know if it's been suggested before... but here's my idea...

How about some kind of radio system? Musicians can go to some kind of Performing Station and have their tunes broadcast on local stations for people to listen to in the comfort and safety of their own homes. They would have tobuy or craft a radio system and can have an option to listen to it, as they would with a musician. A player would be able to hear music, the entertainer would get healing experience (not as much as a live performance), and people with non-top-of-the-line computers wouldn't have to travel to laggy cantinas in densley populated cities and have to "lag out" and be forced to restart their game or even their entirely.

Another use for this system is that merchants could use these public stations to advertise their products. For instance there could be a certain station that would be advertisements for architect products, droids, armor, weapons, etc. It would solve the problem of all the people announcing their vendor locations at starports, which would in turn create less lag for those players with just the minimum requirements in their systems.

People could get creative and have talkshows, radio-plays, and just about anything else players could think up.

Again, I'm fully aware that this system might have flaws and bugs, but likeI said, it would be something to think about...

I really like the "fame" idea mentioned earlier. I think it has promise. I was thinking, though, that it should be determined by the players, not by the NPC's (personally, i hate the automatomic nature of the NPC's--I wish they were gone.) but off the top of my head, the only way I can think to measure that is either with tips earned while dancing or ovations/applause/cheering earned while dancing. I think the idea of a voting system available for players to rank entertainers is a terrible one.

Maybe you could do something regarding actual people watching the entertainer. Sure it's easy to macro /tip or /cheer for hours and hours at a time with a friend, but I think it would be much harder to macro having 20 people watch you.

As an entertainer I know that being ENTERTAINING does matter. People will respond to entertainers that are talkative (they might not tip them, as in the case of most male entertainers that I know, but they'll still watch them.)

I dunno. I tried entertainer quests back in the day (mine was to get people to watch me in the hotel---ha! Players in the hotel?) and they were so boring! I don't want to be judged by some robot of an NPC. I want the players to interact with me. I'm an entertainer because I enjoy the social aspect shared with the other players.

Back to the fame system--i love the idea of being invited to large venues to perform. I don't think that will happen, because in the context of the game there's no reason for a hundred players to sit down and watch some entertainer perform for any length of time, but it'd be cool to perform for jabba or the queen or someone like that. We could even get a badge or something for it.

Anywho.
