Living in a player city could be fun, but moving one's house is very painful. it would be quite nice if there was some way to move our house to a different location without having to redo the furniture (and transport 200 items). If i could just shove my whole house and furniture into my backpack at once, I'd certainly be more encouraged to move.
Many people have placed their player houses as close as they could to major cities so that they would be relatively near to existing shuttle ports. Advanced player cities will be able to have their own shuttle ports. I’m wondering if you think new player cities will develop in remote areas thereby putting shuttle locations around the entire planet or do you think they will just start up where players already are?
Well, until we can actually GET a shuttleport, we will have houses close to established npc cities for our merchants while we work on the rest of the city in a remote region. Once we have a shuttleport we will set up merchant tents in the city along with the rest of our structures.

Personally I think a player city should be at least 2k away from an NPC city, but that's just me. If not, I think we will see shuttleports everywhere and with little reason to be used.

I am not sure that anybody knows how city placement is really going to work until mounts are live, debugged and common. With mounts, it might be acceptable to live a lot farther out from town even without a shuttleport.

we've planned for the release of player cities for quite some time.

We live just north of Jabbas, a good 25 of us or so in the Valley.

I might tend to move my house if all my stuff (vendor, backpacks, crafting stations) goes into stasis while I do it. If not it will remain exactly where it is now.

One of the things I would gravitate towards is a shuttle port.

My PA built a city on Rori since the start. We are kind of close to Narmle, about 2-3km away. We chose to be close for two reasons:

- This is one of the only spot we found where the land is kind of flat and not too broken (Rori's terrainis awful if you want to place houses close to each others)

-We dont have vehicles and 2km is already along and boring walk enough, especially for our crafters and entertainers.

So far the only houses in our city as members of our PA.

When player cities are implemented we may have to move becausedespite our efforts, our houses are scattered in the area, the terrain is broken a lot (lots of ditches and small lakes). That will make most of our city radius unusable. We dont want to move farther away yet because we dont have vehicles in the game and we do enough walking already. We dont want a shuttleport because we dont want imps to get easy access to our town. I hope we will be able to make city shuttleports and cloning centers for neutrals and faction members only....if not we wont bother getting them.

We also scouted Rori a lot, in very remote areas, and the terrain doesnt get better. Just more ditches/lakes/mountains/broken land. Very annoying.

Conclusion: Rori is awful, if you want to build a nice big player city, dont bother trying there. The terrain builders probably didnt want us to build big cities on that planet, the terrain just wont allow it.

We dont plan to move to another planet, but due to those terrain restrictions we will probably never manage to have a big city with all the perks.

Do you think they will just start up where players already are?

>>> I would expect we will be starting where we are now. We're about 2K from Moenia and the run is pretty painful so a shuttle would be nice.

In other words, will you move your house to new location for a player city or will the player city come to you?

>>> Intending to build the city where are are now. There are approx 4 PA/Halls in close proximity and we're planning to build the city together.

Also do you already have plans for your player city or are you going to look for one that other people have built?

>>> Already have plans, even discussing with other guilds to combine resources.

What is going to motivate you to join one city over another?

>>> Proximity to my guildhall. Really theres not currently alot of draw for a house/city for me right now. The main advantage I see if the shuttle and reduced running time. This may be relatively irrelevant with the introduction of mounts.

The advantages of a player city are not that clear to me year. My main expectation is a shuttle, maybe a cloning center. I will be concerned if the taxes for such become excessive.

Our grand city of Valshara is on Naboo, at least 3000m from any other city (normal or player built). Problem is, we didn't know what the size of a city was going to depend on when it was first laid down, or how relaxed the buildable areas were going to be, so we've got a few hills and valleys here and there that block progress. Nevertheless, we're trying to clear some space in the middle of the most buildable area for the HUGE 7x10 city hall, and things are looking pretty good so far. We hope to be among the first to haveshuttleport. We figured we'd build way out of town so nobody would bother us.

My biggest hope is that player cities will attract people and condense them into area's. Slowing suburbian spread that we see. Im sick and tired of seeing homes spread evenly all over. Totaly destroys the feel of wilderness. A simple solution would have been to spread a few dozen zoned areas able to support cities. With the ability to maybe build roads between them. Over time people would gravitate to the zone they like. Player cities would form in these zones. Eventualy forming a megalopolis. Leaving areas of no mans land I can wander undisturbed. That said i dont think the mechanics of suburban spread is going to be adressed. Forcing me to stay on Endor and the non build planets.

You know what i think? Once player cities get started, they should take out cities that are non player all together! What about the cities that are already there and not plaer run? Why not make them player run? I think this would be a great idea. This way players could run the entire game in a sense.

I agree that since city halls are public domain they should be 0 lots... but lets face it being a Mayor, 'an elected position' = skill points???... Experience points yes.. SKILL POINTS??? NO. You are a public position with no self gaining qualities just like a city hall. What if you LOSE your ELECTION and are voted out of office? You LOSE your MAYOR STATUS and are not tied with a city anymore, WHAT A WASTE OF SKILLPOINTS. Being a mayor is more about communicating and bringing people together..

HMMM Lets set up Skill Point Sinks for being an administrator of a Player Association.
Gothca.

ONLY HARDCORE POWER PLAYERS WOULD BECOME MAYORS!!! Please don't let it be.

You don't require Player Association leaders to have skill points.
You don't require City Halls to have lots taken.
You shouldn't require Mayors to have to spend skill points.

I think basically player cities willonly be useful for shuttling to remote areas, other than that I reckon they will be ghost towns.
