oh dear dear washell.
you silly silly man
oh! the naivety!!
I would like to add more to this debate.
Stormcrow touched on part of my subject here. Mayors will get screwed so will the cities .
The other big issue is this. There will be many veteran type players who dont quite reach there goal within the publish 10 window. Now, most people at this point are so burnt out on grinding they are not going to start up a second character to craft with. Or do combat with or anything else for that matter. They are just plain burnt out on grinding!
So whats the alternative?
Thats right make your main character the Force sensitive one, continue doing the quests all the way thru jedi knight.
But you know what?
Not only does this enrage those of us who ever wanted our main to be the Jedi character, but its also gonna tear the guts out of the player economy. Your gonna have so many people that just use their main character to grind Jedi, that the crafters of the galaxy will become almost non exsistent.
The reprecussions of this will trickle and rumble the very economic balance that is being acheived now on ALL servers. The hardcore crafters that have spent months honing their skills are going to give up crafting to pursue Jedi status on that very same character. Very few of them being replaced by up and coming crafters...and at the very least if they do decide to grind a second crafting character it may take 3 months or more to master that profession. Mainly because they are busy grinding their Jedi character that they have waited so long to have.
This is going to cause such a crippling effect on the economy. Goods will be in short supply. And because of that the current value of the credits in the game will become of so little value.
This whole thing is going to be even worse then ever. The cost of goods and services will go thru the roof. But the crafters themselves will start going out of business cause they cant support the overhead because no one will be able to afford anything! Especially with the dwindled mission payouts that we have currently.
This is not a game like others. Credits dont drop off of Rancors, or Kwi guardians..or droids or much of anything else. So where the hell are we supposed to make up the difference?
In the end if you go thru with this change your gonna see we as players were right in this. As we have been right about alot of drastic knee jerk changes in this game.
Most of which you as developers had to go backwards, and change the system.
You think maybe you would have learned by now that we are not a bunch of 10 year old dopes who don't know what the hell we are talking about.
Some of us are even in the industry. I am telling ya we know what the heck we are talking about.

/agree Ceta.
This just doesn't make sense.
Why in the world would we want to change our 'bread and butter' player to Jedi?
The only thing I can think is that the desig and development cylcles now take a sharp left turn through the MARKETING / SUBSCRIPTION CONTINUITY Deparment.
- Allow us to continue grinding professions and unlockup to pub 10.
- If we do not unlock before pub 10, give us credit that is commeserate with the amount of professions mastered and the time spent mastering them.
- Post pub 10, after quests are run and an unlock occurs, simply give people the choice as to which character will be FS.
Please post what I missed.
Also as a suggestion, let's begin to post clearly and concisely what we want in a list form. Post your feelings on the matter, but pleaseinclude inyour post, a list of all the concerns. Copy and Paste from here and other posts along with your line items.
We need to show one mind on this.
After reading Volumes I-III, I would have to say everything about the revamp is sounding great. Being or becoming a Jedi should be the most difficult, challenging yet fun profession in the game. The only thing I would love to see is the choice of 'current charatacter jedi advancement vs. new open slot character advancement' togo one step further. If a player unlocks the force via the quest system with his character, he/she should have to make a choice as to whether or not they want to pursue the path of the Jedi. No extra slot, just a decision as to wether or not they want to keep doing what they're doing, or whether they want to try their hand at being a Jedi. It shouldn't have to be a "decide now" type thing, characters should be able to keep playing as they are and decide later whether they want to go for Jedi. I just thinkthe proposed changes stillmake it too easy when a player can now get two slots and if they want to, and have the time and energy, create TWO Jedi's off one account. Because the Jedi is so powerful and rare, they should be the hardest thing to acheive I think something like this would make even more challenging.
The new slot system should not exist, we should have to chosse with our existing characters whether or not we want to turn them Jedi. We can't have our cake and eat it too, there has to be some sort of serious sacrfice involved then just "you have to do the quests over with your new slot character". Well, we all know that there is a select group of hardcore gamers who will do just that, and potentially have two high level Jedi's on one account, maybe even two occupying two High ranks. Too easy; make people decide with their one character. Maybe have it where a player can advance a certain point in the force before having a make a choice.
TH, here's my simple question.
I have 5 more Crafting professions yet to do. Do I spend millions of credits trying to finish them
NOT EVEN BEING ABLE TO KNOW IF I UNLOCK THE SLOT AFTER PUB 9?
Surely there is a more equitable way. Cant you let the players that unlock between 9 and 10 know it immediately?
thanks,
z
I like that idea.
tell us a week before cutover, what our 5th prof is.
even though i know its a die roll, its still a neat idea.
lol

If this system is implemented, it will be as bad if not worse than the holo-grind. As it has been stated before, this will force players to use their main character to unlock Jedi, thus almost putting the economy on hold while the vast majority does so. Why? For new players? Save the subscription rate from doom? Little bit of smoke and mirrors to distract people from World of Warcraft?
I have played since launch and have seen this game go from a bugged, premature disaster to a casually playable game. There have been plenty of bumps along the way, some that still exist. But I must say that the overall experience was getting better. Then came along holo-grinding. That sure did screw the economy and the entire mechanics of the game. And now this new system promises to do much the same.
What about those of us, which must be in the minority according to SOE, that care not for Jedi or the ilk? I have no desire to become a Jedi at all, period. Yet my gameplay has been changed constantly because of this desire to feed the beast that the Devs feel they need to do. I remember when the only people that used to run a shop were actual crafters, not grinders. Have any of the Devs tried looking for specific items around Coronet since this holo-debacle? Shop after shop, yet nothing in the numerous vendors that litter the area. Thanks holocron.
I won't even go into the fact that the only way I know I'm playing a Star Wars game is the login logo says I am. Continuity and feasible content have went right out the window in order to appease the few. I'm happy the PvPers, holo-grinders and Twitch junkies are all going to get their fix, but what about the people this game was supposed to be made for? The Star Wars fan. Well I took several months off before, may have to do so again. Then when I come back, the bulk of attention will be at ruining the space expansion. Cheers

I did not start playing this game to get a jedi, thank you very much. I am still not interested in getting one. I was having fun playing my crafters and my fighter, but the way things look now, my crafters will have to survive yet another economic disaster (and it will be) while my fighter will have to find something else to do, because there is no way in hell my BH stands a chance against the jedi new style.
As for Star Wars contents: don't make me laugh . Actually, cry is more appropriate. I have read the books, seen the movies, I even have the universe bible at home. This game does not even come close. Much as I respect the hard work and frustration people have put into getting and levelling jedi, jedi do NOT belong in this timeline, at least, not in the numbers in which I see them every day.

How many slots are available in each council?
There are 11 council ranks for the Light side and for the Dark side. Each rank will have a limited number of players that may earn these titles. In addition, there will be an unlimited amount of non-ranked or zero-level Force Ranked Jedi. This enables those players for PvP and the right to work their way up the Force Ranking ladder.
So a casual player wont be able to get into the council? I feel like because I have a job and a life that I wont be able to reach my fullest potenial. Its hard enough to master classes to begin with.
