Thread: Some Info on the European Launch
While reading this whole topic I was pro transfere but now...no. There's no transfering amongst the US servers which has even cost me time that I put in a character to only want to go on another server.
The only thing I feel SOE should do for European base players playing the US version is give them the language patches and what not, I have no idea how they would do this but...
I vote for no player transfers.
Especially crafter professions, with all the duping/exploits/bugs that plagued the original servers, it would be unfair for new crafters on day one to compete against a master crafter coming from an older server.
Also if you have mastered a profession on another server, that character has grown on that server, built up a reputation on that server, it seems illogical to allow him to be transplated to another server with all master skills intact.
As this is SOE *official* european release, and some europeans may have decided against importing a US copy, it seems right that these should be fresh servers.
I vote for no player tansfers.
My considerations on this news:
1) I'm against the char transfer, for all the matters just exposed here
2) I think it will be not so difficult to syncronize the client and the server on the updates: if an european server has the version 76439.50 and an american one just patched has the version 78000.00, the client could eventually check the matching of the own version and the one of the server selected to play in: if there is corrispondence no problem, otherwise a message should notice the player to wait for the server update.
3) I am also not motivated to continue my character in the server I'm playing in (starsider): i'm awaiting the european release and wait the open of these brand new servers.

Well if they do it for european ppl they will have to do it for north american ppl too who may want to change servers=mass chaos. Have the european servers but start fresh. As privious players you can contribute your knowlege to new players. The statement you are attached to your characters..mm you can make an exact duplicate so that does not hold water. Too high chance of ppl taking advantage of having higher characters than others. Lets face it most char can reach master level in no time. Stop acting like this game has a time limit...it doesnt.
When you purchased this game you knew at the time it was not slated for europe. I do hope you do not have to purchase a new cd to play european servers as I would like to try the european servers myself...never hurts to have more choices. I have many uk friends who are playing our servers atm. They swear they have no lag...not sure bout other areas though. Anyway hope some concrete answers soon so ppl can get over it and go on.

As answered by Shug_Ninx
Q. Will the European version allow connection to US servers and vice versa?
A. Yes.Once you install, youcan technically play on any server you want. However, as with the North American servers, each server will be isolated, in that players on Server A can't interact with players on Server B.

The primary argument for transfers seems to be that people don't want to start a new character and spend the time building it up again, and that seems like a valid point. But how would you feel, as a brand new player, walking into an enviroment where everyone had a head start on you? Not just in knowledge of the game, but in overall abilities as well.
On SWG this is a complete nonsense.
If you are a noob fighter you are happy to be healed by a master doctor and get stuf from master artisans, weaponstmith, chef, armorsmith, whatever
If you are a noob fighter, you will hunt on tatoine/corelia/naboo and will not compelte with high level fighter that hunt on lok/endor,...
If you are a noob artisant you will not be able to buy haversters, so you will rely on advanced artisans for ressources an as well as training.
So your points is totally wrong...
The truth its the exact oposite...
And i think you are not european, because if you would be, you would pay $$$$$$ to have transfer, or just QUIT if it is not possible, you dont know what you are talking about. You are just here to argue for nothing...

I didb't buy SWG on its release day. I only have it about 3 weeks now. Everyone on my server was higher level and knew more about the game than me, it doesn't bother me. Does ever n00b needs his own fresh server then? Denying transfers will not remove the "I am behind you all" effect - as everyone who did not buy the game on the very first day will have had that effect once.
To be honest, I'm not actually that bothered if I can transfer my character or not (UK). I'm a littlebored of his look and I think I will start with adifferent species to match the profession I have settled on.But, I just thought I'd address the people who are accusing the european ppl who bought the US version and want transfer, whiners. Whatever the pros and cons of actually having transfersare neither here nor there is this argument. This subject was extensively discussed on the forums before the game was released. The developers did say thatplayers WOULD be able to tranfer their characters to the european servers when they came online. So all I'm saying is I thinkit's understandalbe that some feel annoyed that they no longer will be able to or will have to wait to transfer, since it was implied otherwise.

A very elegant argument Vazkoor but it does raise one question... If a noob is so happy, as you suggest, why are you so unhappy over the prospect of being a noob again?
The truth of the matter is that you want the people to rely on you. You want to play God on a new server and have all of the new players look up to you. And if you can't have your way, you're going to take your ball and go home.
You are wrong,
i am just a casual gamer,
it will take months or yearsfor me to get my character up,
and i dont want to do it all over again, in addition that would be boring to start over.
I dont care to be ubber or not, anyway the powergamer will build an ubber character on the new server even before we are allower to tranfert.
You dont understand the main point, why do i want to go to an european serveur ? 2 reasons :
1) PING !!!! My ping is going to be better on the european server, i will lag less, this us very important
2) Langage : i am feed up having to ask what langage you speak, so on an europen server its gonna be easier because there is gonna be servers by langages (german, french, etc...)
So you dont understand anything to the point, i dont care about being ubber or the economy, as a normal gamer i care about :
1) progress in my character without to have to redo it
2) have good ping, no lag, and speak my native langage
Simple no ?
You are looking for evil where there isnt, and you dont understandand our european problems...
Im on Naritus, live in Ireland, use a DSL 512k down 256k up and ping constantly around the 225 mark. I use an AMD 2300 chip with 3 sticks of 512k DDR. Lag is never an issue and if it is I'm certainly not noticing it.
I would be really interested to hear what you guys ping at on the different US servers as I cant see lag being a reason for me to move to be honest.
Irish-one (Bio Engineer)
- Language
- More people to meet at European playing time
The ping here in France is always bad with adsl because the providers prefere us to have a poor ping and better data so they check too much the data before we get them. I have the same ping now than in DAoC (European version) and Everquest (European version).
