What about making Tatooine a truly Jabba-controlled area (like the loading screen says), and making Jabba's agents do additional scans in cities on Tatooine? Regardless of whether you're rebel or imperial, and unless you have positive Jabba faction, you stand a chance of getting fined or losing Jabba faction?

This would add more Star Warsy roleplay elements, and won't inconvenience too many people.

great changes, with the exception of one...

covert rebels become overt when failing a scan.

Ok, I've read these posts and people complaining about the Imps getting off scot free for carrying contraband. I agree with this change and believe it is a more realistic behavior than penalizing them.

In our history, militaristic societies have always given special privileges to their soldiers, especially soldiers of rank why should it be different for the Empire? Are you complaining because it's not fair? Well guess what, the Empire is in control of everything, of course it won't be fair they will have their privileges... for now...

Take these changes that are implemented in context of the story going on in the galaxy, not just through the mechanics of a game.

Thunderheart, we need to know if contraband isscanned when stored in a droid inventory slot.

If it is not, then all the bonuses in the world given to Imperials and smugglers doesn't matter. Everyone can have a droid, put their contraband in it, and never worry about getting scanned.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

Why wouldn't Imperials be better at this, given the circumstances? Think about it for a second. It's not like we're all smuggling spice past the Hutts, we're Imperials, they're Imperials.

“Shakedowns” occur in Planetary Cantinas (not player Cantinas)

I have a real problem with this... Devs and players have been saying for months that they want to move pvp away from cities. From experience, I will tell you EXACTLY whatputting the searchesin cantinas is going to do: It is going to encourage overt players to camp the cantinas and wait for covert players to get scanned so they can jump them (NOTE: TEF = no first attack).

Instead of having these scans take place in cantinas, why don't you have two to three troops of stormtroopers circle the border of each town looking for people to scan. This would prevent (1) cantina camping, and (2) fighting in the city streets. It would also add some skill to the system, because players would have to be REALLY careful when entering and exiting cities to avoid the troops.

This is EXCELLENT!!! Don't change a thing!!!

Smugglers can still do the job for Rebels.

Rebels have no business in imperial cities, they should get severly punished!!

umm.. if I read this correctly... the Imperials only get "not fined" on themselves only..

Thus if a high rank group with low rank... the low rank would still get into trouble

BUT

A master smuggler protects the WHOLE group master at 95%....

so I think this is good... if you want to protect the whole group of low rank imperials.. you still need a master smuggler.

ok to all you rebels complaining about imp this imp that too easy now blah blah, now first off i'm neutral who wants to be imp but cant cause i'm broke and have -4380fp (i used to be rebel), lets breakdown some of your arguments and look at them rationally...

arg 1 - High Ranking imperial officers should be penalized with contraband on them... well thats just stupid, lets see darth vader walks into a cantina with his super-awesome black sliced body armor, and a nice lowly friendly naive stormie comes over and pats our Mr. Vader on the shoulder, "um sir please stand still for a contraband scan" well Mr Vader opens his nice cloak up revealing a sliced lightsaber and super sliced gloves (they can block blaster shots) well this stormtrooper looks into those huge black eye-lenses and says in a stern voice "excuse me sir, these show up as sliced weaponry and goes against imperial law, which u offer to give ur life up to uphold, i'm gonna have to fine you" well to make a long story short, vader either A crushes him into a little snowflake ball, or B sends him to guard some fusion ion gen by himself on a very unhospitable planet... as u can see the stormtrooper would be smart enough not to say anything when he found those super slice gloves, it would more go along the lines of... "uuhhhh sry to bother you mr vader sir, uh <pees pants> i was ordered to uh search everyone who comes through that doooooor... please forgive me" Vader: "disperse with the pleasantries and do your job soldier" in which he replies "uh yes mr vader uh sir please hold still sir... sry again sir vader mr sir guy you..." <beep beep beep (scanner picks up something) beep beep beep beep beep beep beep (scanner picks up a lot of things)> stormie looks at his device perturbed and gazes back into those black eye-lenses "uh well i didnt see anything uh not allowed here um in this planet galaxy empire thingy, uh ur cleared sir, dont kill please sry thank you move along... oh i didnt mean to say that its just habbit..."...

so to summarize, i think the stormie would be scared for his life as any higher ranking officer could send him to go clean the teeth of the sarlaac and what not, which brings me to argument 2...

arg 2 - smugglers are now useless because imperials can get a higher percentage blah blah, well tagged along in this refutation is the rebels are annoyed that imps get off free thing and they get turned into a overt reb or TEF'd we dont know for sure yet... again just stupid, lets use another example and see how the outcome is, a rebel, a smuggler and an imp walk into a bar (sry i had to start with that its classic) the imp gets accosted by the stormies (he happens to be higher ranking), they find contraband salute and tell him to get on his way... the rebel cries out "hey why didnt he get a TEF i wanted to kill him", the stormie replies, "well cause hes not trying to bring down this government and this empire... u however are, so why dont u step on up here and let me scan you"... the rebel (covert) walks on up fearing nothing, the imps scan him and find numerous contraband item including muon gold *gasp*, the stormie gazes into his nice blue eyes (a little bloodshot) and proclaims "this here sir is contraband... /whisper are u one of our spies, cause ur not wearing our uniform, can i see some ID", the rebel fiddles around and pulls out his Grade A High Ranking Rebel Soldier Identification Card (camoflauged reversed side)... at which time the stormtrooper looks puzzled, "hmmm this says here that ur a bad man, i dont think i can just let you walk away and forget this, u would prolly soon enough shoot me in the back when i turn away... maybe you can bribe me (but thats not in the game) or maybe i just call over all my friends including that guy i scanned before and show you why being a rebel is a risky business" and two things possibly occur A the stormie takes him out back and has his way with him... um trying to devulge information out of him of course, or B shouts "hey guys lookie what i found here, any imps wanna try their sliced weapons i didnt confiscate on him" in which the room all goes in harmony "oooh OOOhh i dO!", after the fireworks are over the stormiemotions to the smuggler.. "um i'm gonna scan you even though i dont think i'm gonna find anything on you, cause those words floating over ur head say ur good at hiding things... oh look i didnt find a thing, move along"

well if u can follow all that or even made it to this point, i think ur sick, sick in the head, seriously, or maybe i am, either way, the way it has been proposed by TH at the start of this thread (now alot farther up the list) are perfect and is the way it should be, i dont wanna hear any other rebels complaining about oh this is too hard for us now... i mean hey ur trying to overthrow a government here, what do u think would happens to rebels if this happened in the United States or the former Soviet Union, theyd just take u out back and put a bullet in ur head, well this case its the empire and they burn a whole through ur head with lasers...

well i've rambled for long enough, thats all for now...

This does not bode well for the future of Smugglers, and I am more disappointed today than I have ever been with SWG.

A high ranking Imperialofficer can only benefit himselfduring a scan; he can nothelp people he is grouped with avoid a scan. A smuggler benefitshis/her entire group during crackdowns and shakedowns.

TH, 2 Questions:

1. I assume items in your backpack are subject to being detected. Are items placed in a droid's storage compartment?

2. Although you didn't explicitly state it, Can I assume based on the information given that players will not be searched in cities except for inside cantinas and the 3 cities you listed? (So if a doctor is buffing in Coronet, for example, they don't have to worry about being searched.)

Thank you,

Well, Im happy. I've been a master smuggler for some time now, questioning why every day. My dream has come true. I can be the crooked cop. Master Smuggler/ Imp/Officer. I agree there should be some penalties if I ever get caught by say a surface marshall who doesnt approve of my "the shield" way of life.

Not all imps are smugglers!

They cannot slice weapons
They cannot make spice
They cannot buy/sell faction

Hidden items in droid compartments should not guarantee 100% but maybe 99.99% vs. detection.

The days of 2 person raids on bestine will end. (which was always absurd)
rebs will think twice about entering Imperial controlled cities (which they should)

But In the sorry reb's defense. The same should apply to hardcore reb cities like anchorhead.

And I like the idea about the neutral 3rd party scans.. Jabba, Borvo, Nym, etc. Where in their areas they control the smuggling trade.

Lets get this patch rolled out, miss a full day of playing then get going.
