"Care to enlighten me on your almighty knowledge then?"

Don't need to. You said you flamed TH outta the GAT and I'm saying you didn't. TH posted in the Discussion Forum after the split. He had flames with Kzin and LeeRyder and you joined in. But YOU never ever ran anyone off.

"And I was including the General Board as Well as the GAT board."

....yah. : / I was including the fur sink...what's your point?

OK then since you apparently know me I know of only one more direction i can take this conversation,

I'm pregnant and its yours.

IGN -- We often hear the loudest cries from a relative minority. Still, it seems odd that all the comments sent our way have been negative.
HADEN -- Yeah, all the guys who are happy with everything are playing the game. They aren't spending their time sending you guys letters or posting on the forums.
TH -- At its core, the idea of polling players in game is valid and one I'd like to pursue, but when it comes to forum demographics, avid posters tend to be early adopters and power users. The feedback they provide is always valuable information.

2 demensional thinking aside, I'd have waaay more respect for myself than that. Thank you for the conversation.

The phrase is: You know not ---OF--- what you speak. It seperates the action from the subject matter.

"I totaly flamed him outta old gat. "

You came in about the last few months of the old boards BH4, and you didn't flame anyone outta anything. TH stayed in the Discussion Forums about 1 month after the split and only posted when Gennies posted in the GAT hole. :/

I kept on doing what it was I was doing, but in my early 30's I felt I wasn't happy.

LOL, wow, I don't think I could have said it better myself.

Great read TH. Gives a little bit of hope to the rest of us 30 year old geeks out there who have gotten a bit underwhelmed with their original career path.

Yeah, definately don't give up. Never give up.

At the very least, the trying should be fun and satisfying. Otherwise you shouldnt make games...

Yo TH,

I'm really interested in the server-side aspectof MMORPG's. Like those guys that design and fix the servers.Do youhave any idea of the type of skills I'd need to have to get a job like that?
Thanks
-TK868

Those fall under the "programmers" side of things. The best way to cut your teeth is to know the equipment, the code and maybe try to find some independent game designers who need that sort of support - - then get involved and help them get it all running

As for MMO specific? You just gotta get out there and do it. Its such a new industry and every day, people are developing new techniques. Its a great field to make a name for yourself if you can help break down the barriers and get rid of some of the lag that we all have to live with...

RanShino wrote:

And to think this whole time I thought you were the real life character Thunderheart (masterful portrayed by Kal Kilmer in the movie of the same name).

I picked the name because I'm not unlike that character. Though I've mellowed a teeny bit as I've gotten older.

TH,

Did you go to school for anything? College ?

I did, but it was all for project management. I have a couple of years of writing and psychology and while I was flopping about, I made the decision to go into the family business and work construction. I got my 2 year Associates in Florida and then went on to specialize in a Project Management program developed by the AGC (Associated General Contractors). It was agreat experience and I learned a lot. From there,I worked my way up from pouring concrete and digging holes up to managing projects. I left the family business and continued on in construction and spent many years building telecommunications towers. I was on that track and far away from where I wanted to be, which was here

Dude now I know why thunderhearts name was so familar, I totaly flamed him outta old gat.

But that was back in the day and now he can ban me and edit me posts.........you've changed man, now your one of "Them".

Heh. Yeah, in some ways, but not in all ways. Q-3PO and Blair are really good about letting me vent player frustrations and listening. But as far as banning and editing posts, I don't do that. The mods do that. I really spend a LOT of time working with the correspondents and the devs and reading the boards and so on. The downside is that change happens slowly and takes time.

Funny thing though. When I first started in this position, it was all I could do to resist jumping into the fray and getting all toasty like the old days, but if there is any one thing that is for sure is that I can't really do that any more. This position must be about listening, respect and creating an environment where we can all get the best possible suggestions into the design mix and have a good time doing it
