Thread: IC4: Path of the Jedi
"I was reading "Power of the Jedi" from the SWRPG, available from Wizards of the Coast for inspiration last night. Bear in mind that aside from a select few Light Side Jedi (Kenobi, Yoda, C'baoth, and others that have been mentioned in comics), the order has been completely wiped out. The remnants have gone into hiding, and do not reveal themselves to anyone for fear of being killed off completely.
The Jedi are extremely selective when choosing people to train. One must exhibit definite characteristics, such as Jedi Reflexes, self-control, and a high degree of intelligence. And, must try to prove themselves worthy of receiving the near-lost disciplines.
Gamewise, the quest has to be different for each player. They must take the quests alone, and cannot receive help from others.
I'd say the first part of changing the FSCS quest would be to actually locate a living Jedi. This has to be the hardest part, and a very long epic quest. One could do a number of quests for a group, or a specific NPC, like a Theme Park. At any given point, the NPC could drop a hint or two about a known living Jedi, and his whereabouts, during conversations with the player. It's up to the player to pick up on this hint, and then actually go out, and look for this Jedi.
Then, we switch to a "Where in the world is Carmen Santiago" mode, where the Jedi NPC continually evades the player, but drops hints along the way. This could be an epic quest within itself. The Jedi NPC becomes increasingly aware that he is being sought out, and begins leaving hints about his true whereabouts for the player to find. This is a huge part of the puzzle, and could involve months of gameplay.
Finally, when one actually meets this Jedi (which could be in itself a separate loading dungeon like the Corellian Corvette, in order to ensure there are no people that "skip" the phases), the Jedi could say something like "I sense the Force within you..." and then give the would-be Jedi a series of tests to prove that he/she does in fact exhibit Jedi Characteristics (like those mentioned above) through a series of puzzles, problems, and (possibly) combat and/or crafting situations, and proves their worthiness to be trained, "Jedi Trials" if you will.
Then a supreme final test, much like Luke Skywalker in the Cave on Degobah in ESB. If all tests are victorious, then the FSCS is unlocked. If not, then the player must start the "Jedi Trials" all over again.
As far as the Dark Side is concerned, in the EU, the Emperor has his inquisitors who are all force sensitive, like High Inquisitor Tremayne, and have Jedi Powers, and hunt down known remnants of the Jedi order, and all other Force Sensitive beings. There are other Dark FS characters, such as Mara Jade, as well. I was saddened to see that this element of the EU wasn't included in SWG. I am hoping that this will eventually get introduced down the road, as well as the FSCS quests."
Perhaps the holocrons could remain part of the game and to start on one's quest towards force sensitivity and eventually becoming a jedi, a person must finda holocron(remanining consistent with what happened previously in the game) but instead of it naming a profession to be mastered, when used the holocron directs the individual to a specific place on a specific planet, where that persons quest will be revealed by the 'contact' at that waypoint.
This way, bounty hunters and others can't camp near the 'jedi mission terminals' so they can kill the aspiring jedis. The points where the individuals find the ones who give the missions would be individual and random. To everyone but the person whose mission it is, these NPCs would just look like white dots on the radar and have no way to converse with anyone except the one person brought there by their holocron.
That's all I got.
Number One, I'd like to start by saying i'm not a big fan of the "jedi revamp" Thoes of us who have worked extreamly hard to unlock out slots to no prevail feel as though we are on a time line. I'm not so convinced that our hard work will be compinsated in the new system, and I for one don't think we should have to start back from ground zero.
Having said that, I would whole hartly support the new system as a noob comming in, mastering random profession in hopes of unlocking your slot is not exactly the idea i had in mind for jedi. So her are my ideas....
Whole Quest ideas: There should be three basic "quests" for jedi ( Peace keeping, Seach and Detain, Jedi Lore) As peace keepers and guardians of the old rebublic there roles as neggoaitors as well as warriors were just important. These quests should focus on these points. Before i go into detail about the indunidual quests, i'd like to point out that I think jedi should be based on a point system. Every action in game renders a certian amount of "points" How you perform on quests determins the number of points obtained and also weather these were dark or light points. (No do overs, If you fail to complete a quest you failed your mission) For example, being sent on a peace keeping mission where you handle a hostile local poorly and saber him would resault in a failed quest and dark points. Eventually determining you status as light or dark jedi.
Peace Keeping Missions:
The basic idea of a peace keeping mission will be to recive a mission from a npc trainer, being that Jedi are scarce in this time i think each jedi should have one npc Master. Two opposing factions are on the brink of all out war. Your job will be to intervein as a peace keeper and talk with the clan leaders induvidualy. You'll need to reaserch the history of the two factions and what led them to be at odds with eachother in the first place. Finaly see if there is a peaceful ending before the clams rip them selfs apart with war.
Search and Detain:
In this role the jedi gets to play bounty hunter as he searches the galaxy for some one. the basic jist of this type of role would go something like this... A smuggler has been accused of stealing and auctioning vital information to the survival of the rebublic to the highest bidder. Highly sensitive information to the where abouts of serveral highly reguarded bank rollers for the rebellion. Two criminal organisations are competeing with each other for the highest bid. The Hutts and the Black Sun. After all having this information will put that crime lord back in favorable stance with the Empire. Knowing how sensitive this information is the smuggler has hired body doubles and gone into hiding. Your job will be to search this smuggler out, detain him and conficiate any sensitive material he has on his person. After you have the information you are free to either destroy the material to complete the quest, continue the auction to the highest bidder for some quick cash or go directly to the empire with it. You destiney lies in your hands......
Jedi Lore:
This mission type will be a very long and extended mission, here you retrace your ancestry. As you find diffrent relics and family heirloms that help explain your connection to the force. your point total (as discused before) will play a role on which side of the force your heritige leans towards more. This quest will focus mostly on discoverying what a jedi is and how to master the force. An example of this multi part mission would be like this...... Your a new jedi initate, your first mission learn to make your lightsaber. You must first reaserch the lightsaber and materials used. Eventually by retracting the steps in a old holocron you manage to craft your first lightsaber after man failed attempts. From which you can learn the schematic. You can see how this will carry over into the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th generation lightsabers. Here we can also start to learn fighting styles and techniques.
ok personally.. iwanted this game so i could run around with a lightsaber and be all cool (dont we all) then i heard i had to either spend months finding holocrons and grinding or spend lots and lots of money and buy not one but like 5.. then i heard the jedi proffession was all weak and puny and tka people are stronger than them. So i didnt bother but one day i would like to unlock my force sensitive slot.. because thats why i wanted this game.. and i heard that you might make the quest missions be like.. "ok you go get me this item that only spawns once every2 months"... and personally thats like crap so plz plz plz dont do that cuz that will make it based on luck.. ie who gets it first.. and im not gonna spend £40 on a game and £10 a month playing it for luck.. at least with the profession way ure at least guaranteed to get it in the end by doing all the professions.. which ide like to do anyways..
So i think you should have 2 options.. 1.. being the whole quest things without the "go get me an item that spawns every 2 months" and i think you should leave an option.. like if you do all the professions.. all of them.. that u unlock it that way too.. cuz i dont wanna have to spend like 5 years worth of subscription on this game and not get jedi because im "unlucky" doing all the proffesions isnt easy.. and ide hate to do architecht and weaponsmith and droid engineer.. but if i had to do it to unlock it and i was dedicated enough ide do it.. even tho its so awful and might take me ages.. i wanna unlock it so bad..
