Thread: AT-ST changes on Test Center

I am curious as to how old you are, even in our comparatively technologically inferior civilization, our mechanized forces utilize combat systems which can be sealed of 100% from an external envirionment, and also can produce it's own operating temperature for inside the crew areas. Sure the AT-ST is a manned vehicle, but are you suggesting that the Imperial Design Engineers are so technologically inferior that they would not have chosed an armor that is resistant to basic ... bla bla
I assume you're addressing me, so I'll play along...
This is also in a world/galaxy/universe that permits one to survive a full-forced attack with a sword or blaster rifle on bare skin....
There is a certain balance with real-life physics and the imaginations of the creators. E.G. not you, not me (last I checked). They [the people posting] wanted answers, and I tried to provide. Oh, and, when did you meet these supposed, "Imperial Design Engineers"? You must have been one, or at least had a nice conversation with one, to make your assumptions on what they were thinking or planning...
Great example of an imagination, though you can tone it down a little
Also, most of what you've said I've already addressed and covered. You should not "pick and choose" what posts to reply to, because you make yourself out to be ignorant.
Also, like I said before, sentient creatures have the unique capacity for problem-solving. Thus, finding a weakness and documenting it should be a commonplace. Also, there is, and never can be, something 100% resillient to ALL types of damage. Need I explain that one to you?

One more thing: I AM in college, and I'm taking quite a few multimedia courses. So pay attention now, someday I might be shaking hands with Thunderheart on my first day of work
One day you might apply to the design firm I own. Pray to god you never tell me you are this dweeb in game. Great insight into your personal character mate.

Oh? Well I find that hard to believe. Please, entertain us all with just a little verification...
1.) What's the name of your firm? Website? Make one small change to it to prove it to us! Surely the "owner" of such an establishment can do such a small thing...
2.) Why are you playing this game? Why are you spending time on this game, when your sucessful "design firm" is so busy producing great stuff? Surely you're busy testing and 'trying out' the games and other products you are developing! Gosh, I'd hate to think that you, the proprietor, is busy playing someone else's game, when you have your own to develop!
3.) I'm sure everyone is curious as to what games/media you've developed thus far, and would like to give it a shot. Hell, I'll buy it! Just give me a link to your website, or a list of dealers stocked with your great games.
4.) I'm just 1 year from graduation, and I'd like to apply at your "firm," check it out; ya know? I'll be sure to tell your hiring manager who I am, and how I've had this great discussion with you.
You're bull*hitting, and you know it. Naughty naughty, trying to lie to all these people... Tsk tsk. I call your bluff.
Oh, and I'm sorry that I resurfaced. Blame that on arillus. he decided to send me a note:
"You are," A sad story of a lost little boy.
You are a crass, ignorant, self centered, smart ass. I just wanted you to know I hate you and I hope you die
My reply:
Crass, ignorant, self-centered... Isn't that the makings of one who would write such a loveletter as yours, to someone else?
Smart-ass: Yes I am. I am happy to acknowledge the fact that, not only am I smart, I can be an ass. But you've shown that you can be an ass, too, though not as smart.
And finally, your hatred towards me: Cool. Want a beer?
What are you planning on doing here? I DO NOT WANT TO BE A CREATURE HANDLER! If I wanted a creature, I'd play EQ again! This is STAR WARS!! When did you ever see 1 general turn to 1 stromtrooper and say ...."ok ... go kill those rebs!" Yea right!! If you are Imperial and you are at a high enough rank ....THAT should depend on how many TROOPS you can call. ......TROOPERS ARE NOT PETS!! Please stop trying to join Creature Handler with Factional Pets!!! This is not fair!! At Warrant Officer II I should be able to call 2 Stormtroopers at one time ..... at Surface Marshall ...I should be abel to call on ....oh let's say ....5 or so Dark Troopers at one time....think about it!!! Creature Handlers are for Pets ...CREATURES ....Do you really condsider a Stromtrooper as a pet just because it resides in your datapad??? And above all ...a TANK as a "pet" ....LMAO ...too funny ...
THIS IS STAR WARS!! PLEASE DO NOT LOOSE YOUR GRIP WITH THIS CONCEPT!!
Are just trying to make everyone a creature handler? Sounds like it.....

First off I'd like to congratulate SOE on making its first real quality decision to date regarding content for the game, that being adding an imperial presence in most cities. This was the first bold move we've seen and has strong content implications in it. The followingmessage deals more with this issue specifically with regards to the ATST.
I think what the development team is overlooking while creating this game is that they are sacrificing too muchof the storyline. They believe it is in the interest of PVP to balance the 2 sides of the game, the ATST is too powerful... give it a huge weakness, things like this. I understand and can empathize with this position, it certainly helps lower the screams from the rebel camp, and thus probably the junk mail. That being said I think the reality is simple, the rebels that are screaming are the uninformed ones, the ones that have been spoilt, and like spoilt children giving into their demands will only ruin the game worse. The development team needs to sit down and make some FIRM decisions regarding where they want this game to go. Otherwise it will go on the shelf for most players in short time. The thing that attracts people to this game initially is the storyline. If they wanted even fighting they'd buy Planetside. This isn't to say I want to see weak rebels, far from it, but the Empire needs to be significantly stronger, mostespecially in terms of factionpetsthen the Alliance in order to make the game interesting, especially in the light of the number of players that wish to be "the good guys"... now to some specific changes...
ATSTs: Lets face it, they've been a joke since the commando nerf... the added hitpoints was a nice addition now, but any weakness to DOT will make them unused in PVP... many rebels will say they are still feared... hardly... and every Imperial winces when they see one out in a PVP battle... so lets think realistic... how can you fix ATSTs so that they are valued in combat? ATSTs must be powerful for them to be useful in combat. It takes 50 hours of continuous mission grinding to purchase one as it is for a smuggler human. Think of the cost for other race and classes. The time put into this machine needs to be compensated by its power. That being said nobody wants to see an army of ATSTs out there. So how do you fix the situation?
1) Rank assignment... make the use of an ATST consistant with an officer of high rank and DO limit it to one ATST per person... this is already being done with the ability to look at V-Times on HQs... so there is precedent... this means fewer people will have them... and will limit the army of ATSTs effect... but will keep them strong as they should be... furthermore ATSTs should be fixable at garages at very high credit cost (1,000,000 credits for a fullwound heal wouldbe reasonable)...
2) Allow a pet trade in... people are going to want to be compensated for their useless pets in their data pads now...
3) Rank should control number of pets... and it should be more the 3... 6 perhaps at the max... with the exception being the ATST...
4) PVE...attack only rebels??? lol thats a joke right?... sure it shouldn't be used to farm creatures... but then again... so what... it takes forever to get anATST...but maybe you're right... so how'bout at least keeping it realistic...ATSTs will only be able to attack NPCs... notFactional NPCs... case in point...my city is on Lok... I can'tuse my ATST to clear out the Nym scum?... that makes no sense at all... furthermore if I get attacked by anything my ATST if it is out should help defend me... it only makes sense... whattroop regardless of what you're doing is going to watch you die... the ATST shouldbe prevented from initializing engagement with anycreatures, but still defend you if you get in trouble... sure this means it will still be used to hunt creatures sometimes... but it makes it tougher as you have to risk your own skin before your ATST will help out...
While on the subject of revitalizing PVP... a very good boost would be to add bonuses to rank... ie. kill a private get the standard reward... kill a colonel get the standard reward and a large bonus... change things so if you're overt it will display the con AND your rank... ie. While overt... <emblem> Lieutenant Shaedar (Warmaster)... or whatever... and when covert... Shaedar (Warmaster)... this means there would be "targets of opportunity" on the battlefield... furthermore it means if the above suggested rank enabled faction pets was instituted enemy troops would be able to spot the leadership of opposing npc forces...
I say, make it powerful, mean, dangerous, fearful.
But you HAVE to drive it yourself...not just drag it from your backpocket at scream "kill!". More up...you can't drive AND shoot. There are two seats in those beast. One driver, one gunner. So bring a friend, and watch out for ewoks.
Another solution is ofcourse that the AT-ST have pet-drivers and that's why one can shout "kill", but that's boring. What with the starships in the expansion later on? Will we not be able to drive them either? Just shout "fly to Bespin!!!" and "kill those X-wings!!"?
Give us the ability to drive the vehicles with all the good and bad effects of that.
And give the rebs someway of escaping the AT-ST's. Small passages and tunnels, huge rocks etc. The rebels may not be so powerful as the Empire..but sneaky and clever, make it show in the game.
As much as people like to look down on faceless stormtroopers,
who came up with the idea to consider them to be pets? I
just recently started playing, but it seems like the Squad
leader Profession is the perfect place to let players control
more than one faction "pet." Hardly anyone is a squad leader,
and not only would this encourage people to be SL's, it would
be awsome to see a mass of stormtrooper fighter rebel troopers.
Or you guys could add some meaning to the faction rank. For example,
a Pvt. control an AT-AT or AT-ST is obsurd, I belive it was a major
or higher on hoth that had an atst.
My two cents,
Grithe
Flurry
Sniper
Master Artisan, Marksman
I was just curious, I am a rebel with my first faction pets, but even on rebel missions I can't get them to attack, they don't even seem to have the attack command. I admit I haven't read throw all the posts, 40 pages my eyes where bleeding after a while, but if anyone has an explanation please tell me even a repost would be great.
thx.
