Thread: A word on the player city cap...
BigSteve03 wrote:I would just like to know WHY you waited tilll the day before the patch went live to tell us about the limit? I wouldn't have had a problem with it, but alot of us got their hopes up these past few weeks waiting for this patch to go live, then at the last minute had them dashed because of this unforseen cap.
A little advanced warning would save alot of hurt (and cancelled accounts) in the future.
I bet you didn't cancel your account. That's too bad. Everyone wishes you would.
I am on a personal mission to point out the stupidity of everyone who threatens to cancel their account because they did not like a decision about SWG. Do it. Please cancel. No one will miss you. In fact, not listening to your worthless, drivelling complaints will be highly valued by all.
This rant was brought to you by certain letters of the alphabet. I am sure you can figure out which ones.

Ok, Since the developers seem to know it all when they make decisions.
As you do not work for SOE, your 2 cents is worth about 0 cents when it comes to making game design decisions. Go build your own MMORPG so you can define all the rules you want. And you can spare the rest of us from your monotonous and boring suggestions about how things "ought to be" simply because that's how YOU would do it.
Please call SOE's customer service immediately and cancel your account. I speak for the silent majority on these forums that is sick and tired of your ilk. This game isn't a Borg Collective design competition. If you don't like the product, stop buying it. But you do not get to dictate the design by spewing off your irrelevant opinions.

Personally I think the current cap limits are perfectly acceptable. Given that a planet is 225 square kilometers, the 10 city limit allows for the possibility of placing 10 full sized cities on the newbie worlds and still maintaining an optimum of 2 km between each city. That limit preserves both wilderness areas for non-urbanites and combatants and allows cities to reach full size without being crowded by another city.
The 25 cap on the expert worlds is more reflective of the smaller number of players who actually play on those planets at any time. You will see a lot of smaller outposts out there.
As for people who are holding City Halls. I've seen both Naboo and Tatooine style city halls on Expert Worlds. If you are willing to relocate, your hall may still be of use.
I fear this second LandRush that may be coming. To make this a race is wrong. To force your player base to play in areas they don't want to only hurts the game as well. When the novelty wears off they will either go back to an area they feel comfortable with or leave the game entirely.
Wouldn't it make more sense since you say smaller outposts would not hurt server stability to just lift the caps completely and let the player base determine which cities make it or fold?
The new exploit out now where people from different servers trade lots with each other to assure a city is adding way more to each server population and will only lock out more people that actually play on that server.
If you go with the current proposal. You have to make it so people have to be there every week to vote and not just place houses and leave them for others to maintain while assuring that resident's vote forever. In this way the majority of these cross server deals will fade out.
Most big groups have been together from the start and can assure a real city growing, yet so many were left with nothing during this last LandRush and the next will be even worse sincethey will not have to train as politician or run out totheir spot to place the cityhall.
Why not just lift the capsand allow the player base to decide which city flourishes or folds? Leave the min required residents at 5 for an outpost, but up the requirement for a level2 even higher like 30.When a city has reached the second level makethe requirementless again for each level to go back to original numbers? Example 5 citizens in 24 hours to keep a cityhall but to go to level 2 would take 30 people, level 3 would be 40, level 4 would need 50 and 80 for a level 5. By making your resident requirements larger at the level 2 and level 5 stages would make only the most determined groups progress while still leaving the outpost status open to all. This would also reduce the amount of people feeling they need to recruit ghost citizens from other servers. City progression does not have to be in even increments. Use the increments to control and direct cities rather than blocking people out.
I play on the Kettemoor server and our group like so many others have planned and worked together for a city for months. I do not believe we deserve a city more than a small group but I do believe we need to be allowed the chance to make or break it. The current caps and proposal of possibly another landrush is just not fair.
I truely believe if the larger communities are not able to build after the next fix many will begin to lose their people not only from their communities but from the game.
I know your job is not an easy one. You must make sure you are fair to the little guy and the large communities but some creative thinking may be the answer.
I ran the following ad recently on the Kettemoormessage boards. Please go look at what we have accomplished. Or visit any other large group that missed out in the last LandRush. Then see if you can come back here and tell us all our dreams will be subject to the next LandRush lottery.
I f you do take a look you can see the amount of planning and joint effort that went into this. It goes way beyond getting materials to make a deed.

I just want to thank all of the people currently in our community. Together wehave proven that a city is more than a cityhall. All our city buildings are made and ready to place though. Wish us luck on the next landrush!

I would just like to say I don't mind waiting another week or so to get the increase in player cities(not to say I am a little mad:smileymad
. At first I was a little heart broken to tell my PA leader (who paid for the majority of the guildhall) that it was going to take a little longer, but unlike the majority of people who had 50+ houses, only we had about 10 people (and had only been planning for a month). We wanted a place where rebel and neutral crafters and entertainers to earn money from respectful players. Hoping to have at least 3 rank city filled with PA and non-PA alike. I guess we will have to wait, but we already asking people to join our future city.
Even though I am playing 15 dollars a monthfor a sometimes buggy and frustating game. I do enjoy the honest ofDEVs in this game compared to the last MMORGP I played. Games of this magnitude take timeand I for one will wait and see. I think they should raise the cap to at least 30 cities, but limited only by rank really. With that said I look forward to beingin second generation of cities.
Just aside note anybody interested in joining the soon to be city of Ethalon, Corellian, Valcyn Galaxy. Please contact Ralu.
Well thats nice you thought of us to tell us,dosen't help but its still nice.
Though I must ask one question.
Why dont citys appear on my map to see how many is on the planet?

My PA is a small PA that actually managed to place its City Hall on Corellia (an amazing turn of events indeed).
The catch is that because we're located 4.5k away from the closest city, we're finding it very difficult to draw people in. With only 12 houses placed (with a few more on the way), we might have been able to break the level 2 city cap and build a Bank and Cantina, but since that limit is 20 now, we may be stuck...
I've made a suggestion to the PA hall to have some sort of mount giveaway in order to get people to visit our fair city. We'll see how that pans out...
We built Freeport, in S Naboo in Flurry. We have plenty of people, both in and out of our guild, and in other guilds. We have imp, reb, and neutral players. The citizenship grows daily.
We aren't trying to make this little corner of the world solely our own, rather we want it to be a place where both our residents and customers can hang out, and enjoy themselves. To be honest, we could probably also live without having a city--if only we could have a shuttleport without one.
Our objective is to provide what we can to the players to maximize their enjoyment of the game--whether that's through selling them things they need, having a good chat, or maybe assembling a hunting party to kill something big (or help friends that got killed by something big, that will only instantly incap them). We want a COOL city. And given the early radius restrictions, we're working to keep some semblance of streets, etc.
If you want to be part of a city and people won't let you build in the zone, build out of it, and let it grow around you. Don't try to be a "house blocker" rather talk to the people in the city, and tell them you're going to place it--and if they want to maintain order, tell them to give you a "proper" place to put it. If all goes to hell, just don't go to the city. Tell the other guilds, and your friends how you've been treated.
I've seen too many people tell me about how bad other guilds are to them--well don't buy their weapons, armor, food, med supplies. In fact, /addignore them.
There's too much "attitude" from the real world being brought in game. I don't suggest destroying another's city hall by getting voted in. I'm sure CSRs will jump on that (perhaps).Mizraal..........I had to laugh when you said that title was for my merchant skills LMAO. Thank you alot for answering that question.
On another note I think allowing people to cross trade serverwise is very unjust.......I play on one server and barely have the time but I am not about to start a second charector to trade for lots and such. That takes away from the actual roleplayers and the like.
As far as peoples comments in here about voting out the mayor and destroying the city so you can get your up......two things......
1) Number one reason why my guild willNOT just allow anyone into the city....
2) It is pretty sad to know that in a game you people are willing to take away the fun for your own personal satisfaction......your just like the cheaters & Tk's on other games I have played.....you have nothing better to do than to make the game miserable cause you can't have your way.
Lastly I would not like to see a cap that does not allow your city to grow period........Yes my guild has the membership to level up the city........yes we are currently taking a vote to allow non guild members to join our city........as it stand our main concern is the thought of you morons wanting to desstroy cities just to get your own up. That alone is going to cause cities to fall and in my opinion is just wrong and I hope the dev's put a choke on that before it happens to the unsuspecting. I understand the city we put down doesn't belong to us, but we have a say in how it is ran. we don't tolerate abuse of any nature. That being game exploits or bugs all the way to being disrespectful to others. On that note is there a way to kick a citizen from the city if they show their true ways after joining or do we have to report them and wait......We don't pride ourselves on numbers, we pride ourselves on repsect of others and that is why we are not a huge guild, rather large one with alot of really nice people. We don't advertise enrollment as they come to us when they see how honest and respectfull we are. Example: We did not selfishly get our city and then say screw everyone else.......we made an extra city hall and gave it away.....that person got a city up as well...one of the opposing faction at that.
Mizraal our city is also on the radiant server. Onwego is my game name as well if you ever need anything or just want to say Hey
