Thread: Roundtable Discussion: GCW and TEFs
What if you could go overt by talking to a PC master squad leader and it would take 5 minutes for you to go overt, and during that time you would be teffed to be attacked. The Master squad leader would have to be overt also. Just a idea.

So how exactly do you go overt inside an enemy base?
You cant anymore, but for a while it was a problem. There were a group of players that had figured out how to do it. IF we had a two minute timer and added the ability for players to go overt without a recruiter, it would reintroduce the problem.

Didn't he address that in his second paragraph where he said you would be ejected from a base if you did a /overt?
He did, but this idea of roving declarations needed to have the point underscored...
Just the other night, I was doing Rebel destroy missions and had returned to the Moenia cantina with a TEF (usually fairly safe as Moenia is Rebel biased). While I was working to get some more missions, an overt Imperial attacked me. What was interesting was that this person was in full composite armor and fully buffed while I wasn't wearing any armor and had a title of "Explorer" up. I think he assumed I'd be an easy kill (what's the fun in that?) and as I was buffed and am a Master Fencer, I had time to put on my own set of composite armor (surprise, surprise) and could almost picture the shock on his face. I haven't really done PvP so I don't know all the techniques, but the Imperial that attacked me was having to use stims to keep up while I wasn't. After several minutes (and me having more help on the way), I agreed to let the Imperial leave in peace.
The reason for me describing this story is because of the good and bad of PvP and TEFs. Some people go after what they see as an easy target and it is that kind of behavior that makes the recipient bitter about PvP.
I also find annoying the fact that a TEF prevents you from entering structures. Particularly when I am solo hunting and doing Rebel missions, a TEF is pretty annoying as I pass a house that appears to be an interesting shop, but I can't go inside until my TEF wears off.
I think there are several different types of people playing SWG and covert, overt, and neutral aren't granual enough to describe them. The whole TEF system on coverts, rules for buffing/healing, and whether you can enter a building are all in place to prevent exploiting covert status so that you can help in factioned battle, but not be attackable.
The question I have is why can't there be different types of TEFs? I'm just thinking out loud here and obviously I'm far from a PvP expert, but I'm curious why a covert Rebel like myself doing Rebel destroy missions needs the same countermeasures that a covert healing an overt in battle, a covert grouped with an overt engaging in battle with a player of the other faction, etc. I am *not* suggesting get rid of TEFs (people like myself just attacking NPCs should still get a taste of the GCW), but perhaps there are different grades of TEFs (with longer/shorter durations, or maybe even just be a TEF against NPCs for those attacking factioned NPCs?) to deal with the different playstyles.
I hope noone is taking my ideas out of the context I am intending. For my own use, the current system works pretty well and honestly, I don't engage very much in the GCW. What I would like to see, however, is ways of bringing "fringe" players like myself as well as neutrals into the GCW to where they feel comfortable and encourage them to engage further.

Here's a thought.....
How about you actually get some hardware capable of handling the large amount of players on Eclipse to allow things to actually spawn???
There is no reason in the world that I should have to change my play time to be late late late at night eastern time to actually see spawns, or get a night job to where I can play during the day when others are at work.
Two nights ago, I drove with occasional stops on Dathomir over 7km to only see ONE SINGLE Brackaset Male, this is ridiculous!!!! I've reported this about 4 times to the CSR's only to be told to hunt closer to the cities! WTH! Why should I have to fight Nuna's or Gorg's for fun, (which I cant call that fun at any level)???
CSR's have come out to the wild and have actually done areatracking, and not found ONE SINGLE mob in range. Then they tell me that they will report it. Well months of THEIR reporting have passed, and you know what, the problem still is there!
My account is expiring on July 27th, and if you cant make it where I can go out and actually kill things for fun since there is really nothing else to do, I will not be renewing my account.
I've done the themeparks on both sides
Have completed all non-circular NPC quests on ALL planets (with the exception of some of the badge quests i.e. hermit, altruism, etc.)
Did all the quests for Padme's sister
Did the Nightsister Quests
Did the SMC quests
Did all the imperial prison quests
Jabba
Valarians
Killed many many many A'aukuans and Nyax, and all the other various encampments
DWB
Corellian Corvette factioned and non-factioned
Opened my FS
Mastered practically every profession in the game
Killed at least one of every MOB in the game
Particpated in the destruction of at least 20 player faction bases in various roles, SL, Smuggler, Commando, etc.
Performed a ton of regular PVP play.
I've particpated in player hosted events, and have held a few of my own.
I've participated in Role Playing Events.
Basically there is nothing left......
The past 3 months, its been really hard to just go out and kill stuff. I'm not into doing missions, because those stupid lairs only spawn 5-6 creatures, and they usually get blown up before I get to them, and I shoulnt have to rely on missions, I thought this game was supposed to emulate a world, well the world on Eclipse is pretty vacant and will lose another soul soon.
TestCenter - Ciale/Riale/Eragi
Eclipse - Ciale
Sounds like you've finished all there is in the game, might as well move along.

One of the ongoing community discussions is the GCW, PvP and the issue of TEF's. TEF's exist because we have a mix of playstyles with a PvP switch. Overts are PvP all the time and Covert's are PvP sometimes. Because of this situation, there are a list of actions that happen in the game that cause a player to get a "Temporary Enemy Flag" that makes them Overt for a short period of time or prevents them from trading to an enemy, etc.
To kick things off, lets create a "players handbook" listfor GCW TEF's that catalogue's all of the possible TEF's and use it as a point of discussion so we can identify which items promote exciting Overt / Covert combat situations and which are problematic.
Thunderheart,
why dont you just make covert players who group with declared faction players be overt while they are in a group. noone can complain then. it is logical to assume that players who associate in a group of declared faction are hostile, and therefore a threat. the main issue with people becoming angry about gtef is that the covert player gets a chance to attack without warning. no red dot.
the only really annoying thing about a tef, is that your are not allowed in structures. that makes no sense if you are not being attacked. only players who are fighting should be booted from structures. if i recieve a buff and my guildie is not declared he gets kicked out..why? because he consorted with his faction? what about the more dangerous of the two, me, who is overt and hostile.

Heres an Idea to Fix GTEF:
Currently, anyone who attacks an Overt in your groupd gets a TEF against you.
Keep that, but add:
Anyone who is grouped with an Overt should have a TEF. IE group with Overt Reb, Overt Imp can shoot you for being seen with the enemy.
This way Overts can see how many people they are about to fight, and group members can still assist each other if they are attacked.
This seems to be the elegant answer we're looking for.
agreed. perfect resolution
