Thread: In-Concept Open Discussion (5-31-04)
I'm not sure whether or not this issue has been put into the boards as I am not a regular "troll" but I believe this game has a severe lack of the ability to retain accomplishments. I have been playing SWG since July 2003 and have put in hundreds of hours into my character. Yet, in a single day I can turn my character into a newbie. Yes, I can lose all my skill boxes andforget everything I have learned. I would be left with credits, items, and load of badges fromnumerous mastered professions, events and locations. Yet, my character will know nothing none-the-less. I have a great appreciation for this system as it allows for a huge variety of characters all fully customized to their user's choosing. It also allows for "mid-life crisis" changes to allow an entirely new template if one would so desire. What I suggest is not changing this system in all its uniqueness, but adding a new system that would allow characters to retain certain skills without sacrificing skill points. Not the ever important skills, but new trivial and fun skills that characters could be ever working toward improving. These skills would take an obscene amount of time to improve but the character would never have to lose them.
For example:
Say a character loves to fish. I say reward that character with a small fishing xp bonus everytime he catches something. Improving this skill may allow this character to access different varieties of fish or even a better sense of where the good fish are. Maybe even a better success rate if that isn't pushing it.
Other possibilities for skills that could be included in this additional skill system may include but not limited tomilking anddrinking (that is to say that people would actually have to work for their incomprehensible /drunk state). These are a mere few that I can come up with off the top of my head I'm sure that the hoard of players can come up with endless creative ideas for these new skills.
This is something that has been bugging me lately, and I have to get it off my chest. For the past few months we have been getting quests/dungeons/end-game mobs that are generally for huge groups, and guilds. More content is excellent, I applaud SOE for that. But I'm more of a rogue-ish player and don't have enough friends to take part in any of this content. So I feel my $15 a month is going towards other people's fun while I am stuck hunting/pvping, while all of the big guilds get to do their thing. I'm desperate to see some content that I can partake in. Any sort of challenging solo/small group content would be nice, SOE seems to be neglecting this. I've always played this way in MMORPGs, but it seems to be frowned upon here, and I don't know what to do. Generally on a monthly basis a development team would usually implement several quests at a time to give everyone a chance at some new goodies, whether for the soloist, the small band of friends, or the gigantic organized clansmen, everyone gets their fun. Now I shouldn't say their isn't any small squad based quests here, because their are several. The problem is they are quite frankly, boring. Killing X NPCs, or fetching X item, rescuing X person is pretty much all they are. Then you get a badge, and some item and you are on your way. Looking at the latest quests, it shows that the development team is finally realizing their potential to make immersive and fun quests, with great rewards. I just feel a lot of players including myself are being left out. Are there any plans for some immersive quests for smaller groups, or soloists?
hi
i play a wookiee char and i was reading some of the threads about wookiee armor and it said that you where haveing trouble coming up with some good concepts. i looked at the ones that you already have an i realy think there cool but i was reading one of the starwars books
Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry
and in it Chewbacca portrays a bounty hunter and he wears this cool armor and i though that it would be something cool to have ingame
here are some links to images of it if you wana take a look at them

I havefour comments, all unrelated to each other:
1.) Not a lot of originality between species other then looks and what they can wear, and more specifically, I have a rant on wookie apparel (as I've been a long time wookie).
I play a wookie, and I'm not in a big guild, so the Mandolorian armor quest is sorta pointless for me.
Be nice if us wookies got some decent things to wear. I'm glad we got armor, but every other species already has a selection to choose from compared to our one. Dont' get me started on clothes.
Be nice if every wookie had to go on a quest to earn a special sash (like the one chewbacca wears) that signified a special moment; it would be the wookie's "Right of Passage". The sash could give a small mind buff every time we go into combat signifying a type of "pride aggression".
2.) Used to be a big fan of diablo, and the thing with diablo, is that you almost never visit the same place twice since everything gets regenerated randomly.
Now I don't suggest every world do this, I like the static appearance of each world and even the dungeons. What I suggest is another world be created that is completely random.
This world wouldn't have a name, for instance it could be called "xr-381" or something as it would be a little known outer rim planet. It could make it easier to have "flavors of the day/month" as far as content. Make it so that it cannot be visited more then once, and can only be found randomly ( shuttle from starport crash landing ). To keep people from complaining, randomly generate a new planet like this every day or two days with enough frequency that everyone will get used to the fact that you can't "see everything", "get all the badges", "steal all the magseal containers" etc.
It could make it a lot easier to introduce lootable places, and weird, rare minerals, while swatting away constant camping as the planet will disappear after a day or two.
3.) For those of us that have completed Jabba's park, and have done countless things for the big fat Hutt, can we get a player event that happens once or twice a day, where Jabba takes a few failures to the Great Pit of Carkoon. I want to stand there and cheer as we here the last feeble cries of some pathetic loser (npc or not) before he gets pushed in (please make the eating look exciting if not brief). Probably give the entertainers something, as maybe they can sign on to entertain us on the barge.
had an idea, probably been here a million times over, but humor me and make me think its my own idea.
I'd like to see player crafted "arenas" for lack of a better word. The idea is you drop the arenaand itwould exist as a set of those same blue borders like the GCW battlegrounds have. This way you could drop it just about anywhere, including municipal zones.
The admin console would allow the administrator to select from two matches, team combat or last man standing. Maybe with some variations within. Team could be faction based or players would choose the team they want to be on upon entering the arena.
The idea is to make player PvP content run much better. Currently it is all faction based and in some cases players run tournements that are not faction based and exist as duels. Having an arena of this sort could make PvP a lot more fun.
The other thing that would be interesting is to have a control panel with weapon/armor restictions. So you could run a match that doesn't allow anything but cdef pistols and armor is not allowed...
just thinking out loud. But there seems to be a lot of people creating PvP tournements and I know the GCW changes will add to the whole PvP environment, but something like this will add to the friendly PvP stuff taking place in this game.
Greetings!
Over in the Bounty Hunter forum, there has been some healthy, positive discussion regarding Player Bounties. The discussion brings up some very creative ways of implenting a system that would allow players to take out Player Contracts and other risks that may land them in the crosshairs of a Bounty Hunter's LLC. What we've worked out seems like a reasonable enough change, and is fairly well thought out to avoid potential griefing/exploiting.
Please stop by, and give your thoughts, praise, criticism, and flames. ![]()
