Thread: Should Force Sensitivity be a known path or a mysterious one? (II)

I've seen many people requesting for the path to be mysterious.

I would like to remind those people that the path was once mysterious... but noone had been able to unlock the FS slot after an allotted amount of time.

Then Holocrons were introduced to show players a guide to unlocking.

Yes, it may have been a mistake to just unleash holocrons into the world, but it satisfied everyone's desire to be a jedi.

Now if we go back to a mysterious (unknown) path... most likely there will be no clue as to how a character would be able to begin their quest for force sensitivity.

---- That Being said... ----

I would like to see this kind of structure injected into the Game:

1) Begining the search:
The search would start at any force-sensative NPC that will only talk to someone who has mastered their birth profession and any elite profession branching from the birth profession. The FS-NPC will give basic NPC missions unless the afore-mentioned has happend.

2) The Force is With You:

When the FS-NPC is conversed with and your character had the prereqs to talk to it, then he says something like:
"Greetings friend... I can sense a strong aura about you, one that I can help you learn to channel and draw strength from if you wish it."

3) The FS quests:

These quests should not be outright missions, but rather... riddles that one must solve that involve the obtaining of specific loot items to be brought to the FS-NPC. for example (you your conversation leads to you to answer yes to his guidance):
"Very Well... now pay attention: In the dark, smooth and round, hidden within, but over ground, Pure and white, from toment formed, from the dust, it's beauty born."

"Seek this item in the desert of the barren planet, bring it to me, and I will guide you to your next step."

-- just an example -- btw the answer is a pearl from a krayt dragon --

THESE RIDDLES SHOULD BE RANDOM... so that the Walk-Through writers will have to work a little harder to come up with all the information ^_-. I'd be more than willing to help make riddles for over 50 items.

4) ** YOU NOW QUALIFY FOR THE SKILL: JEDI PADAWN **

The FS-NPC gifts you with a nomad's cloak (with hood over head) as a parting gift and informs the PC of the next step if he should decide to become a jedi.

"You have learned well, and have gained more focus than i anticipated. The force flows strongly in you now."

"You may choose to continue in your life with this new found gift enhancing your ablilities, or you may choose to follow the religeon of the ancients, and seek to be a jedi."

"If you should choose to be a jedi, seek out the elders... they will know who best will be able to train you."

=====

Thats it in a nutshell. I really think this would be a nice balance for everyone who wants it to be a mystery and those who would like it revealed.

Please let me know what you think guys ^_-

I unlocked after 10months... It was long cause i did what i think was to do to become force sensitive, before i switch to a non-FS playstyle that is only grindingprofessions.. IMO getting FS needed these :

- a good newbie helper

- explore all worlds

- Help or spend some time with philosopher NPC and other key NPC

- tradestuff for free

- traininglots ofskills, get AT LEAST 3-10 professions mastered

- has tried most features of the game

- defended / destroyed HQ

- quests & THeme park

- tip (not the amount, but the occurence to different players)

- Recognition by other players ( for several weeks, some friends could not understand why i havent unlock)

- Not killing some specific NPC

- Had used his/her profession to help other (like rezurect for free in Geonosian)

- Never been reported to use 3th party programs or exploits-vs-players

- has mastered the english-french translation profession (help non-english to understand stuff)

- help with TestCenter

- help with ressource tracking (like www.swgcraft.com)

- killed some dark jedi AND / OR some high level IMP

- and A LOT of other secret stuff

- help dev finding the exploits that makesome players have a bad experience with SWG (our guild spend a week on moving, finding who put mines under our city building that bugs our avatars.. it was deleted caracter`s mines FYI)

- find Yoda or Obi-Wan

- did I mentionned secret stuff SPECIFIC for you, so all path are different

- accomplished some player given mission

I'd like to know how to unlock, but not How to unlock. Let us know, in general, what we're supposed to do. Example: If it's quests that will unlock it, tells me. But I don't want to know which quests, as that makes it too easy. Subtle hints in the quest descriptions would be good too.

If secrecy prevails in the quests (ie ... i do all the quests but i cant unlock because of some stupid secret thing i havent done... i'm quiting the game (permanently)

like I said before - they implimented the wholw -- every path is different for each player --- thing from launch... looks like you joined (or at least registered) a little after they launched the holocron madness into SWG... they did that because noone had even come close to guessing what needed to be done to unlock their slot.

a lot of theories... but nothing solid.

I joined this game again because my friend said they were going to impliment quests... and I've been waiting for this 'quest driven' unlocking to happen for the last 6 months.

My question has to do with the step before all of this... with how you actually become Force Sensitive.

The question to continue discussing is this:

Should the method of becoming Force Sensitive (not the path from Force Sensitivity to Jedi) be a mysterious, unknown mechanic orone that is visible and known to everyone?

Thanks for the continued feedback!!

I think eventually a laundry list will be created that will narrow down things you can possibly do to BECOMING force senstive. In this case having it be a mystery will defeat the purpose. A small sample of this list may include:

1-tipping others

2-crafting and selling x amount of item(s) z

3-healing another char in combat

4-defeating mob a, b, c (knight trials anyone )

5-visiting poi's

6-attaining prof badges

7-doing theme parks

8-engaging in PvP

9-joining a faction (see 8)

10-traning others

Let's face it. Some of these things can be exploited and or macro'd until you reach the desired result. One way to fix this is to have such a huge laundry list but only flag 1 or more of these things per day/time/server/char actually help you become FS to keep some kind of mystery to it. For those that remember guessing what made you become a Jedi when it was first released you may recognize some of these things.

Should the path to force sensativity be a long one? Yes and no. Yes to those who seek only one or a few modes of gameplay. No to those who participate in as much of the game as humanly possible. FS should be attained easier by those willing to devote themselves to all forms of gameplay and becoming one with the force. I'll use this quote from A New Hope:

"The force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us. It penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together."

Read this as you may. I seeus (the players) as the living things. How we interact with our environment and other players as what binds the galaxy together. How much of that interaction we decide to do should have a direct result in how the force penetrates us.

Unfortunately this is a game and as such is dictated by certain rules and limitations. I'm sure that keeping FS mysterious will be a challenge but i hope the devs can pull it off without tipping their hats. Here are some suggestions:

1-don't create system messages for things that we do in game that would hint we've done something to heighten force sensativity. especially right after we've done it

2-create general fs quests on helping players understand what the force actually is (this may already be in place for the path from fs to jedi)

3-have npc conversations grab our attention. i always used to think this was a hint to jedi before holocrons came out. ever notice an npc say hello when youre the only person around? maybe speaking to that npc starts a conversation talking about FS

4-encourage grouping!!! remember the force binds us

This is a small example of how becoming FS can be interesting, fun, and mysterious.

Good luck devs. You have my support.

If you guys wanted a deep, epic Jedi based storyline play Knights of the Old Republic, it's all there. SWG is supposed to be something completely different. And now 'cos of all these votes wanting a known path, you're gonna get the devs wasting precious development time and money basically doing the same content in a game which really needs time and effort spent in much more important areas....This thread is so depressing...all the people voting for a known path are effectively ruining the game

Go try KOTOR instead, it's designed exactly for this!

If for no other reason than fairness, it should be a known path. There are many who began working towards getting a Jedi under the old system that were not able to finish before the change. It would be quite unfair, and cause a great deal of frustration, if those players had to go back and discover a new "mysterious" path, when they were already on a known path and were "interrupted".

Make this new method known, but make it fun.

Quests are fun.

Killing X creature that rarely spawns over and over, hoping to get X item that rarely drops is NOT fun, as is wading through a checklist of creatures that must be killed. The path to the Force is not found through simply killing stuff.

Looking for X person that randomly appears somewhere at random times (new Hermit quests) is a novel idea at first, but quickly becomes tedious and frustrating, therefore, NOT fun.

There is no more development time required to make a known path as opposed to a mysterious path. They're going to do it anyway, so we might as well get them to make it fair to everyone and FUN.

If they had left the Jedi out of the equation in the first place, that would be one thing, but since the Jedi has been let out of the Bag, so to speak, this is the way the game has evolved and we must adapt. But, like I said, it has to be FAIR and FUN.

No mysteries, I pay money every month to use all of the content in the game.... just let us have the force sensetive slot, make jedi balanced (not uber powerful compared to others) by making them extremely descriminated against, and by making it VERY hard to rise in the "jedi ranks" if you will. Then, because everyone can make a jedi, they will try it out, the impatient silly people will find they dont like it, and we wont have this jedi snaffoo anymore with crazy amounts of jedi.

So which part of the quests are we supposed to be given credit for if we have not unlocked before publish 10? I am very confused after reading the stratics chat. Specifically with this answer here:

Brannoc - *Meparch* Question on the new jedi unlocking system. - What form of credit do those that have not unlocked will recieve for the professions we have mastered?

Runesabre - Jedi will be given credit on quest advancement based on how many of their Jedi skills they have unlocked. The more jedi skills you have successfully mastered, the more quests that will be unlocked for you.

As for the question if path to Force Sensitive should be mysterious? I would like the path to be known, simply because the quests themselves are the timesink.

This ones tricky, I'm kinda split between wanting to know and then not wanting to know. one part of me would like to know how to get FS but another doen't. I just think for all the fans out there who play this gamebecuaseof the movies, then itshould be a mystery, When i thought about the idea of FS, before istarted playing this game(and had no information on the game), i always thought i'd be walking along and it would just come tome. And when i was helping my friend with the game on his 1st day playing, we saw some slaves and slave masters i said lets kill them and release the slaves, and he told me,he thoughtfor releasing the slaves and showing compassion we would get FS.

i would prefer a known way to force. not like the old, which was based on luck. sure, you had a lot of work. but it was nothing else then luck to master the right profession.
a way like this would only frustrationg more and more players. i should be hard, but known!!

I think it should be known. I also think it shouldn't be something that involves us having to group for any reason to do the missions or quests. It should be an option to group but not necessary. The path to the force should be one that you journey along on your own. Not one where you have to rely on anyone or a group to do it. I have seen some of the ideas put up about "The village" and that imo is how it should have been from the beginning. Now if the path to FS was like that then it would be very fun indeed.
