Thread: Should Force Sensitivity be a known path or a mysterious one? (II)
The search would start at any force-sensative NPC that will only talk to someone who has mastered their birth profession and any elite profession branching from the birth profession. The FS-NPC will give basic NPC missions unless the afore-mentioned has happend.
"Greetings friend... I can sense a strong aura about you, one that I can help you learn to channel and draw strength from if you wish it."
"Very Well... now pay attention: In the dark, smooth and round, hidden within, but over ground, Pure and white, from toment formed, from the dust, it's beauty born."

My question has to do with the step before all of this... with how you actually become Force Sensitive.
The question to continue discussing is this:
Should the method of becoming Force Sensitive (not the path from Force Sensitivity to Jedi) be a mysterious, unknown mechanic orone that is visible and known to everyone?
Thanks for the continued feedback!!
I think eventually a laundry list will be created that will narrow down things you can possibly do to BECOMING force senstive. In this case having it be a mystery will defeat the purpose. A small sample of this list may include:
1-tipping others
2-crafting and selling x amount of item(s) z
3-healing another char in combat
4-defeating mob a, b, c (knight trials anyone
)
5-visiting poi's
6-attaining prof badges
7-doing theme parks
8-engaging in PvP
9-joining a faction (see 8)
10-traning others
Let's face it. Some of these things can be exploited and or macro'd until you reach the desired result. One way to fix this is to have such a huge laundry list but only flag 1 or more of these things per day/time/server/char actually help you become FS to keep some kind of mystery to it. For those that remember guessing what made you become a Jedi when it was first released you may recognize some of these things.
Should the path to force sensativity be a long one? Yes and no. Yes to those who seek only one or a few modes of gameplay. No to those who participate in as much of the game as humanly possible. FS should be attained easier by those willing to devote themselves to all forms of gameplay and becoming one with the force. I'll use this quote from A New Hope:
"The force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us. It penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together."
Read this as you may. I seeus (the players) as the living things. How we interact with our environment and other players as what binds the galaxy together. How much of that interaction we decide to do should have a direct result in how the force penetrates us.
Unfortunately this is a game and as such is dictated by certain rules and limitations. I'm sure that keeping FS mysterious will be a challenge but i hope the devs can pull it off without tipping their hats. Here are some suggestions:
1-don't create system messages for things that we do in game that would hint we've done something to heighten force sensativity. especially right after we've done it ![]()
2-create general fs quests on helping players understand what the force actually is (this may already be in place for the path from fs to jedi)
3-have npc conversations grab our attention. i always used to think this was a hint to jedi before holocrons came out. ever notice an npc say hello when youre the only person around? maybe speaking to that npc starts a conversation talking about FS
4-encourage grouping!!! remember the force binds us
This is a small example of how becoming FS can be interesting, fun, and mysterious.
Good luck devs. You have my support.
Make this new method known, but make it fun.
Quests are fun.
Killing X creature that rarely spawns over and over, hoping to get X item that rarely drops is NOT fun, as is wading through a checklist of creatures that must be killed. The path to the Force is not found through simply killing stuff.
Looking for X person that randomly appears somewhere at random times (new Hermit quests) is a novel idea at first, but quickly becomes tedious and frustrating, therefore, NOT fun.

And now 'cos of all these votes wanting a known path, you're gonna get the devs wasting precious development time and money basically doing the same content in a game which really needs time and effort spent in much more important areas....This thread is so depressing...all the people voting for a known path are effectively ruining the gameGo try KOTOR instead, it's designed exactly for this!
There is no more development time required to make a known path as opposed to a mysterious path. They're going to do it anyway, so we might as well get them to make it fair to everyone and FUN.
If they had left the Jedi out of the equation in the first place, that would be one thing, but since the Jedi has been let out of the Bag, so to speak, this is the way the game has evolved and we must adapt. But, like I said, it has to be FAIR and FUN.
Brannoc - *Meparch* Question on the new jedi unlocking system. - What form of credit do those that have not unlocked will recieve for the professions we have mastered?
Runesabre - Jedi will be given credit on quest advancement based on how many of their Jedi skills they have unlocked. The more jedi skills you have successfully mastered, the more quests that will be unlocked for you.
As for the question if path to Force Sensitive should be mysterious? I would like the path to be known, simply because the quests themselves are the timesink.
a way like this would only frustrationg more and more players. i should be hard, but known!!
