Maybe it's me but I see this thread as mainly pointless. If you want to know how to implement a Jedi quest system then just look at KOTOR - it's all there. The balanceof light vs dark was implemented along with variation in lightsabre design amongst other things. Plagarise I say
Incidently on the whole light vs dark thingy I would envisage two seperate paths as being imperative. Dark naturally being alot quicker and easier than light, with neither being more powerful. But this would make it too easy for dark - well yes and no. Mastery of the dark side should be easier to achieve but who you going to share it with - noone all your fellow darksiders will be grappling to pull the rug from under your feet. The slower lightside will provide assistence and community to counterbalance the speed of the alternative path. How lot implement this- well KOTOR analysis of action - stroll around killing all and sundry then get dark XP, heal people then get light XP etc.
You'll probably flame this but I don't care I enjoyed becoming a jedi in KOTOR because of the way itinvolved me in the universe - I enjoyed roleplaying my descent to the darkside - and so did others. Therefore I don't think it is too bad a system to look at adapting.

And also a game cannot say ok you, you and you can be jedi the rest of ya...you lose! CYA....that would be the true sucide of the game....

Again, cannot read all the post, so...
(although I have read a good lot)
This, I am not sure if it is in topic, but, well, maybe can be interesting anyway.
What about using a different method for the way force powers and skills? I mean, instead using padawan, knight, master, you can handle it like 3 or 4 or -whatevernumber- professions.
For example, one profession Light Side powers (healing, helping, protecting, meditating, etc) one Force powers, general (kinectic, enhancing...) One Dark Side powers (Lighting, life drainingm you choose
) Lightsaber Combat (one-hand, two hand, special techs, double) and maybe including a social branch one (diplomacy, lighsaber crafting and scouting, or surviving some kind of jedis had).
The title adquired in the force progression can be measured as some kind of mixing or attaing certain skills in certain branchs.
With a limited number of skill points you would have the differents kinds of jedi people want, they could specialize in what they want from start, jedi would be more rich and diverse, and it is no so different from the rest of professions system, so it is not so difficult to put in game (apart from bugs
)
I know there are some problems with conversion to all the actual jedi, but you could give them the equivalent skill points they have attaind till now and let them convert theirselves their character.
This, of course, with all the good ideas proposed in this thread. This is only a bit of all that can be done to (from my point of view, odf course) improve this wonderful game

I think one of the strong points of the game is that the players are more or less forced to try different professions (if they persue jedi-hood). If becoming a jedi is achieved by doing quests and not mastering professions I think people will choose 2 suitable professions, master them and never change professions anymore.
I can imagine a quest based system for jedi would work if the quests are profession based. That way players will still have to learn certain profession to be able to solve the quests.

My idea is I love the idea of quest to open your jedi slot. The only thing I say is I dont care how long it takes as long as its reasonable, but make it so the quest can be completed by yourself and not having to have a group. Also make it so that there is no more grinding, heard rumors about having to switch professions to complete part of your quest. Of course you know how rumors are. You should also give some type of reward throughout the quest. All that traveling could get expensive.

Hello
a lot of good ideas i only have two things that concern me
1 No proffession changing to unlock not good for server and why do you wnat people to do what they not like.
2 Why do alot of people keep saying they dont want to seealot of jedi on servers so make it really hard to unlock. Hows this why dont u make unlocking kinda hard but make the hard part playing your jedi make it hardcore. Make it cost alot of money and require game skill to get high lvl.
Ok what iam tyring to say dont keep jedi pop down by only a lucky few being able to try and play jedi but keep the pop down by making jedi darn hard to play, not just like another toon u get to play like your main but a real real hard toon to play that should keep the amount of high lvl jedi on servers down. So basicly you can get that jedi by questing but can u play it. Iam just saying keep jedi population down by making jedi hard not carebear. Let all quest to have chance to play a jedi but can they play the jedi?

Everything seems well with the new method I like the idea of getting different ranks (padawan, darkjedi, ect) by completing different quests with previous skills (ie: u get novice jedi by mastering padawan and using those skills int he quest) I really think you guys need to add dark force sensitive. I have a character on SunRunner thats very "nature samurai like" he's a heavey swordsmen and I wouldn't mind keeping swordsman and just having force powers like the adpets on dantooine. Not having a ligthsaber wouldn't kill me I love my two handed curved sword...ALOT. And would love to be able to use basic force commands when I'm using my sword. If you incorporated 2 quests that where hard but not greatly hard something someone with half of an elite combat profession could do, and have each one unlock darkside and lightside but no jedi or dark jedi or padwan class so in essence your not really a jedi. Almost like have a profession like Dark Force Weilder or Force Weilder. Play it from there. BUT THERE DEFINATLY NEEDS TO BE FORCE PROFESSION W/O THE JEDI/DARK JEDI PARTS INVOLVED!!!

I cant agree with you on this one..... where is roleplay in your way of doing.... what is the meaning to become master swordsman if you want to play a pacific crafter !!! You really should have the choice of your profession. But, quests should need a lot of skills required, meaning you must seek for help with other players.... Hire mercenaries in my exemple.

My request/suggestionis a simple one; please make the blade color selectable upon creation, not dependant on the crystal/pearl you use. A jedi's lightsaber is a Jedi's life and is as important a tool of force and offense as it is a tool of defense. A saber, being an "elegant weapon of a more civilized time" is not only meant to deal out death and destruction but is a tool that should inspire phsycological awe and intimidation. As such, the color plays an important part in this role. No master jedi master wants to run around with a pink or brown saber, unless you're Mace Windu, of course.

I believe this game is going to die of this system becomes too easy. I think the MAX amount of people playing Jedi characters should be 1000, it should be that difficult to become one, this game WILL die if Jedi becomes a relatively common thing, people are trying to role play star wars, thousands of Jedi (mainly the newbs on this forum) would absolutely turn this game into a pile of Bantha Poodoo.
