I've been with SWG since beta and have many friends at SOE, and frankly, the Developers of this game don't have a clue what they are doing. They will keep changing the game, including the basic strategies and precepts as long as they are losing people faster than they are gaining people. They are simply trying to bail out a sinking ship before every rat jumps off.

The Jedi path is the biggest mistake. Force sensitive is a good name, because you have to force yourself to grind out endless professions...what fun!! How inventive. How clever. It's really ridiculous how far this game is from the Star Wars universe.

Luke was born with the blood of a Jedi. He was born force sensitive and had to train. He was gifted his light saber. Vader had amazing force sensitivity at birth.

So what is wrong with SWG?

Grinding professions, or any kind of grinding, is boring. Very boring.

The missions are incredibly mundane. They are not quests, they are errands.

Vehicles and space travel should have been included in the birth of the game. They are central parts of the films.

The Holocrons were a bad fix and a stupid shortcut.

It amazes me that Sony isn't smart enough to integrate the things that work well in Everquest into the new games. They had a built in audience and player base with SWG and they have blown it every step of the way. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

If space and such had been in the game from the start it would not have worked IMO, pacing does matter even though people want everything NOW NOW NOW.

Runesabre wanted to make it clear that all you grinders out there haven't wasted your time:

The new Jedi system will take into account how far along you are under the current system in achieving the opening of your force sensitive slot.
Well I suppose that's good news for those of you on your way to becoming Jedi**

No sh*it Sherlock, tell us something we do not know.

People keep saying "oh there will be some recognition" but nobody says what.

It better be some form of recognition after seeing how wrecked this one stupid STUPID friday feature post has made everything in game. Look wround any Starport and you can see the effects, either by everyone scrambling to sell off Holocrons or just by the sheer arguments that go on with everyone thinking they know what is going on.

It is funny really, I woke up today thinking that by some miracle one of the DEVs would have half of a spine and post some kind of clarification today.

What was I thinking

Q,

Let's be clear. What does "becoming a Jedi" mean? Are you changing the way you UNLOCK the Jedi character, or are we only talking about PLAYING the Jedi character?

SOMEONE PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE A DEVELOPER HAS MADE THIS CLEAR

They wont clarify anything, they make STUPID POSTS ABOUT PLAYER CITIES AND IGNORE THINGS THAT NEED ATTENTION LIKE THIS.

More roleplay in becoming jedi, it sounds like a joke, but doesn't look like.
Way to go devy boys.

About all those jedi's running around, have anyone of them ever thought about actually keeping to the story line?

Jedi, you are hiding from the imperials, instead of showing of with your glowing saber and prof tag, you should be out in the desert training your skills till the day that the jedi order will raise again.
I puke for every jedi I hear has shown of in the cities, where is the roleplay in not keeping to the story line, dam if this was "drager og dæmoner" (dragons and demons) you would be slaughtered on the spot.

When life is victorious, there is birth; when it is thwarted, there is death.
A warrior is always engaged in a life-and-death struggle for peace.

Everyone is totally freaking out about this new jedi revamp news because they think it will be easier to unlock their slot, and would create a flood of jedi on the servers... I personally think the devs already know this, and are adding the new quest-based path for 2 reasons. Obviously to make the path to jedi more fun and interesting, but mainly TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF JEDI MADE. Think about it- its SOE...anyone whos played EQ will agree that holo-grinding 20+ classes in SWG is MUCH EASIER than ANY epic quest in EQ.

Peoples determination to unlock the FS slot might not be so strong once they learn that its riddled with random luck- Im talking about quests that make getting the Badge of Intellect look like a piece of cake. Hope u like looking for random spawns, and arguing with people over who saw them first... They aren't gonna make jedi any easier to get than it already is- they know the EU and story continuity needs to have some value.. By implementing a quest-based system they can easily influence how many people unlock their slot. Think about it...your quest is to kill monster A...monster A spawns in this 5 km radius...you hunt it down and kill it, and another wont spawn for 24 hrs, or 2 days, or a week, or whatever they want depending on how large the jedi population is. The new system is gonna change it from AFK-macroing your way to jedi, to running around as a Ranger trying to track the guy youre supposed to talk to next, and guess which one will take longer?

As for the jedi changes in permadeath, Im all for itas long as jedi population is controlled through the new quest system. I think people should play their Jedi in hiding, and almost never fight PvP- but if the situation arises where u need to defend yourself, Id rather see a Jedi willing to give it all he's got than run away like a little girl. The current system is nice in theory, but if theres gonna be jedi in this game I dont want to see them as wusses hiding in a hole. Im not saying they should be invincible, in fact I dont even think they should get much KD/dizzy defense if any- lifting the permadeath weight isenough for now.

If I have mastered 15 profs (on one acct, 20+ combined) to get a piece of art or a badge I'm cancelling my 3 accts. I have been chasing jedi since day 1. Thats right I've been here since day 1 if you can call it that. I have spent countless hours hunting holos and then grinding out meaningless professions. I had all my holos done before you gave people holos (nice slap in the face btw, I spent 40+ hrs getting 2 to drop and paid out the wazoo for the other 2). I don't like the grinding crap but to change it now and waste my time as well as many others because ppl are whining is complete BS. Why don't you fix the atst pve exploit? How about the unintended stacking template? I agree playable jedi's shoud be revamped. My friend has one and I beat him senseless with 3 boxes in Rifleman.

all these proposals have my vote but i am concerned about limiting the amount of Jedi around at one time.

Either jedis should find it hard to remain hidden in cities - expect frequent detection & attack from bh,stormtroopers, etc etc

or

There could be a weekly time limit per jedi playtime i.e 12 hours -

or

perhaps after 3 deaths within 30 mins a jedi must return to a specific location [i.e jedi temple] to meditate for 20 mins. [could craft or play starwars chess or somthing ]

i think eventually everyone will have a jedi which is fine so long as we dont get 3000 jedis running around at the same time.

There are only two things that would make me quit this game:

Accomplishing all I care to accomplish in the game.

Jedi growing to ridiculous numbers on the servers.

Given my average weekly playing time and my playstyle, the first will likely never happen as, for me, content is being added faster than I can complete it.

If the current permadeath change for Jedi, or any other change, allows the second to happen, then I will regretfully have to say goodbye to this game.

I guess what I am hoping for is that the Developers realize that making it easier to advance as a Jedi makes high level Jedi more common and that they have something in mind to counteract this effect. If this system is only to counteract issues with the game that make Jedi advancement unfair but there will be a more fair method of limiting the Jedi (i.e., NPC Jedi hunters such as Mara Jade and Darth Vader), then more power to them. So long as they keep in mind that too many Master Jedi is a big boat to turn, and it would be best to never let the Jediget to too out of hand in the first place.

Either way, I'm willing to see how this plays out. Bring it on.

I'm not sure what to think about this yet. I am still grinding my way through getting my FSCS, but I'm not complaining about it. I think it is a good tool to keep the number of Jedi down. I mean, yeah Jedi are cool, but if we just want toencounter a bunch of jedi, then how about play one of the other great LucasArts games like Jedi Academy or KOTOR? Having thousands of Jedi running around will destroy the game unless you have more than one account or play both of your characters at the same time. No one will be tailors anymore, or droid engineers, or bio-engineers, and that is sad. The game needs these people. If everyone is a Jedi or a large portion are, then the continuity is destroyed. I think no matter what changes, getting a Jedi should be a very difficult process and/or the other professions should have more perks to keep people doing them. I mean, you can only make so much Jawa Beer and enjoydoingit.

I think this is utterly wonderful news. Not only does it mean that I might actually make jedi, it also means that not only powergaming grinders can become jedi. And most importantly, this is a sign of a thing that has made SWG better than any other MMORPG I've played: The devs actually listen to the community...

been smoking some of that wacky tabaccy eh?. Devs listen to the community? maybe the whinny people yea, but the people that are trying to fix this game? no. I can see how you can be upset by a powergamer being able to get to jedi faster. but face it, thats his job, he wouldn't be called a powergamer, if he didn't spend every second of his time in a game, playing his heart out, and trying to get the best weapons, the best armor or in this case, the best profession(which some people would say)

I understand that a lot of people who picked up the game want to play it for the sole purpose of being a Jedi. They've got glowy swords and wacky magagical powers.

But what about those of us who don't want to be Jedi? What about the people playing Bounty Hunters who wanted to hunt the Jedi? Tell me, why would a Bounty Hunter spend all of his time leveling to Master just to go out and kill a Jediwho re-spawns in a clone center and comes prancing out a few seconds later? No permadeath Jedis is a slap in the face to all of the players who leveled Bounty Hunter on the promise that they'd be the check to a galaxy full of force users. This patch is pretty much telling all those players "you wasted your money, guys."

There was a post by Pex or C3PO on the Jedi thread that flat out stated:

"You've been warned. Know what you're getting yourself into when you unlock your FS slot."

Jedi players knew Permadeath was active when they made that character. They knew it and they chose to take the risks. I just don't understand why they're whining about not being able to level up when they knew it'd be extremely difficult.
