This is great! The whole attraction to Star Wars is the jedi. Why do you think KOTOR is such a huge hit? Because every person out there wants to be a jedi. From the first movie (or book) that captured us, it's always been about the Jedi. The GCW is just a great setting for the story but again, for the majority, the biggest draw is the ability to be a Jedi.

At any rate, this change is definately for the better, and so what if there are a million and 2 jedi running about? That's what this game is about! The rest of the story is just there for filler while we run about with our light sabers, trying to resist the darkside. (Or for some, work to be part of the darkside) ![]()
SOE and Lucas Arts should have made it a startign proof, or one that became avaliable after 3 months of game play, so that players would have a clue and be dedicated before they did jedi.
That's just IMHO.
Star Wars Galaxies is based on the time frame of the Empire Strikes Back. In this time frame, Jedis were EXTREMELY rare an even the slightest blip of one on the radar screen would draw in Vader, Palpatine, and their hordes of Imperial Bounty Hunters to kill them at once. Removing Permadeath from the game goes against everything Star Wars you can think of. JEDIS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE GALAXY IN THIS TIME FRAME. IF THEY WERE THEY WERE HUNTED AND ELIMINATED BY THE EMPIRE.
Enough said.
Whoever came up with the idea of removing Permadeath because a bunch of Jedi players were whining about getting killed by Bounty Hunters needs to re-watch the Origional Trilogy and read the books to go along with it.
Jedi Permadeath was something advertised about the game before it even went into beta. And now they're removing it because of player whining.
Unbelievable.
I don't care what y'all say...I wannabe a Jedi and I don't want to have wait ages and ages to do unlock my FS slot. And I don't want to die the moment I do. I think the current system is really really stupid, and only vagrant people with no lives can possibly get Jedi. The point of the game, at its simplest, is to have FUN, not to have to sit in freaking Coronet for days on end grinding out Biological effect controllers. SERIOUSLY. The Jedi quest system sounds way more reasonable. Make it like an uber theme park, and at the end you get your FSCS. To avoid having a totally Jedi population, just cap the number of Jedi that can be on at any one time. So you can still play on the same server NOT as a Jedi, have it be an option to have a FS character and a regular character on the same server.
I dunno. Sounds good to me, I am one of those people who want "to be uber and wave a flashlight" and to hezmana with keeping the illusion.
Well, here aremy assumptions:
- They are making it MORE difficult to open the FS slot to get your Jedi character
- They are making it easier to play your jedi once you get there
The net result wouldkeep the Jedi rare.
It was said that there will be some "recognition" for the profession grinding. What does this mean EXACTLY? Will I get a badge that says something like, "You were 95% of the way towards your Jedi. WAY TO GO! Good luck in the new system!" ???
My idea for the New System to Open the FS slot would be to do away with the mystery profession AND add all the quest oriented requirements. This way the system really benefits all those that have spent time mastering all those professions. And don't forget about the people that are still spending all their credits on these holocrons.
With those assumptions it seems like a better system. My only concern is for the people that have comitted SERIOURS TIME, MONEY (real dollars in the form of a monthly fee) & EFFORT to master professions. I have been grinding professions since the system was understood (you master "the 5" you get your Jedi Slot), and will be very disappointed if that is all for badges.
Im still amazed that you people havent got a clue as to how soe does their biz. They do what the players want only after enough have either quit or complained long and hard for changes anyone thats played EQ knows this to be true.Far as the change to the jedi system most people that play this game doesnt care what freaking time era this game is based upon the big draw for this game is jedi people are complaining wanting to be jedi and not spend hrs upon hrs grinding thru diff classes that is why its being changed so stop your crying.
Honestly, I think many people get a lot ahead of themselves when ANY change is made to any profession. It's human nature to resist change.
These are good changes made to make Jedi more appealing, and more fun once acquired. The majority of players I know :
a) do not come to these boards
b) are playing to unlock their Jedi slot
c) are playing for fun
d) want to be in a game that is Star Wars themed, but really don't care too much about specifics as long as they eventually can wield a lighsaber and slice up some things.
The holocron grind 'ruined' the player interaction and fun in the game, for many. I'm sure even the majority who come to the boards here can agree on that.
The quest system: I will wait, and see what the development team comes up with. It's going to take some real work to get anything implemented. I'm SURE it will be very very hard, but that's my 'guess'.
What I suspect will happen is SOE will gradually phase out holocrons, as the new method will become an alternative. Longer, perhaps, but a lot more fun too, most likely. An end to losing your best combat folks, doctors, crafters, chefs etc... who drop their part in the community to follow one of many professions to unlock their force slot.
Jedi being rare- get over it. TKA are 'rare' too. Master Bounty Hunters are 'rare'. I think many of you missed the fact that EVERYONE is a hero in this game. Yes you- your friends, and the guy next to you. To do that, you bend the rules of the continuum so you have a fun game. When you have a game where everyone can be a special Hero, and many play to be a Jedi, you need a system in that is tough to get your Jedi, but EVERYONE can do it. And there should be a high reward for the hard work put in.
So again, my hats off to the development team for paying attention to the majority, which is not those who flame these boards, and are taking the game to the next stage of fun and enjoyment.
What are the first things people think of when you say 'Star Wars' to them?
Jedi, Lightsabers, Wookies, Storm Troopers, Death Star, and your host of favorite characters from the books/movies.
Good gaming folks.

So what if Luke, Leia and Han are all cheery about going to the Wookie planet to celebrate life day?
So what if Chewie's family is living happily in their tree-house?
So what if Chewie's nephew plays a video game from the late 70s?
So what if there are music video's from the 70s that people in Star Wars watch?
It's called CONTIUITY. And Lucas cares about it. I don't expect you kiddies to know what I'm talking about by try watching a bootleg copy of "The Holiday Special" sometime and then MAYBE you'll understand the importance of contiuity.
