why is there a delay outside of combat when taking armor on and off?? where is the balance problem with this when you are NOT in combat??
The 3 second delay during combat was put in because of the armor and weapon equipping macros. Some of the problems associated with "instant armor" areinstances like theJedi "armor macro" wherebya Jedi could press a single toolbar button that would unequip all of their armor instantly, allow the to then use their force powers and then press that button again and re-equip all of their armor instantly. There are other situations in the game where players were getting unfair heals and weapon advantages because of this.
Bounty Hunters have a particular pain with this because it hamstrings some of their most effective combos. There are other examples of this as well, but the change was necessary. The other aspect to this is that players were using these macros to compenasate for certain combat shortfalls. The right answer for the game is to address those things in the combat balance.
Ha, he completely side stepped the question. Hey TH, next time try answering the question asked.

This is especially trus considering that at least three different devs (including you) have stated that the new jedi robes are intended to "replace" conventional armor for Jedi.

but it doesnt... and it wouldnt be fair to let everyone one switch stuff out fast but not jedi... remember my jedi has normall skills now too.
The problem being: Jedi don't wear armor...their lightsaber is their armor.
<snip>
If the devs were using their brains, they would have nerfed the use of conventional armor by jedi, and just added resistances to jedi robes. Instead, they (1) allowed jedi to wear conventional armor even though they aren't supposed to; <snip>
Sorry but the pedantic demon inside me wants to know what it was that jedi Darth Vader was wearing in all the movies if it wasn't armour? ![]()
Armour/Weapon-Switching Delay:
My own opinion is that the whole "delay"/combat queue thing stinks. I am also a RL Female playing female toons (and grateful to be able to!) and I don't relish being *exposed* while I put armour on.
I also think it's fine to leave it nerfed for during battle ONLY. I don't understand the delay on weapon-switching though. Especially since I hunt mostly PVE and usualy solo.
Speeders and Swoops:
On a side note: I'm getting VERY angry about paying to have my bikes repaired and then having them auto-store the next time I dismount! This happens almost every time and is getting very expensive. I love the way you guys fixed the Exploit, but never fixed the BUG that made the exploit worth doing. I keep /bug-ing this and I don't understand WHY it doesn't get fixed. Can anyone explain?
Also, on all servers, the bikes, critters, npcs, and even players (while sitting) are still scooting/warping away (or into the sky out of reach). I keep /bug-ing this and I don't understand WHY it doesn't get fixed. Can anyone explain?

TH,
I STRENOUSLY disagree that there are ANY battle advantages to armor switching macros, and I think the devs REALLY screwed the pooch on this one...
First, let's talk about jedi. Jedi armor switching is a moot issue. There is NO reason WHATSOEVER, to nerf 33 classes just because it is unbalancing for one, single class (jedi) to macro switch armor.
(snip)
Why are devs being so clueless about this, and why can't they see that the solution is 10 times more annoying and game-breaking than the alleged "problem" itself?
Why?
Well I notice he offered discussion to try and prove his points. What do you offer to try and prove yours? (that he is wrong on alot of what he wrote)

Try reading the post not too far down from my original before you make your comments like these.Or if your too lazy I can sum it up for you.
In PVP these macros were being used as a unfair advantage to equip on the fly when their opponent was using a different weapon against them that they realized rendering them with no or not enough protection so then they would switch armor to better suit the situation.
I also said that he was wrong with a player only being able to heal fractions of the ham bar within the 200-400 range it is much higher than that.
The other point is that I like the changes during combat just because the fact that it is extremely unrealistic to be able to switch a whole suit of armor or even a piece in a fraction of a second.
Im sure there are plenty of other players out there who just want to play the game knowing...
"Hey I have a pretty good character,a nice weapon, good suit of armor and Im decent at PVP,I shouldn't have to worry about some tricks that may come up to instantly have good defense" Everyone knows a good defense can make or break a battle ,this my friend is unfair defense.
As for the Jedi causing all of this I totally agree...just put this way,I myself ,care about continuity and Im sorry "Battle of the Jedi's" doesn't fit the script bud.

Congratulations TH, you have managed to completely miss understand the community's question. Might I suggest slowing down a bit so you can read the feedback albiet more clearly?
And how many other things are youchangingnow for a "combat balance" that most likely wont be realized until months down the line? If you are going tochange things such that they ruin a certain profession, at least either hold off on the change until you can fix it in a TIMELY manner, or just lump it into the combat balance. There is no reason to gimp certain professions for months and keep people waiting for a silly patch so they can play effectively.

TH,
Hasn't the Jedi aspect of the "instant armor" been rendered moot? My understanding is that Jedi are now unable to wear armor or would their robes be considered armor. I realize that there may be other issues that you are looking at as well like swapping DOT weapons and stacking them. Could there be a more effective solution here such as applying a DOT timer instead of an equip timer?

Woah woah woah, then, what about this entry in the 2nd Jedi Archives?
Jedi Robes
Long awaited are the Jedi robes! Gone will be the days of Jedi running about in armor. The Jedi robe will provide a hidden toughness value that will protect the Jedi, similar to armor, but providing more of a Jedi feel. These robes will be issued to you as you advance through the quests and the Force Ranking system; each have their own look based on rank. Should you lose rank, your robe will be stripped from you and the appropriate level reissued.

Well.. it's all good that you've made the change with wearing armor vs. force powers... but why can't we at least wear backpacks..... I mean... seriously... Luke jumped around like a madman with Yoda on his back... and we can't even use a simple backpack.
Can we please get that ability.
You CAN wear a backpack. All you have to do is take off the robes. Simple.
