This is very good news... the holocron system was destroying the game, sucking all the fun and life out of it.

With the Star Wars universe, playing a Jedi is on top of almost everybody's wish-list. It is the very reason for playing in, or even likingthe Star Wars setting. Jedi is the Killer App of Star Wars.

OK, stormtroopers and bounty hunters are cool too, but what at least 85 % of the player mass really want to do, is to play Jedi.

Now, becoming a jedi is effectively NOT FUN. Being a Jedi is probably a blast, I would not know, but grinding through moronic classes I'd never even concider playing for fun most certainlyis not. Yet, that is what almost all players are doing to some extent... becoming a jedi has become the purpose of this game, and that has turned SWG into an incredibly boring game. SWG is not a game about seeing the krayt dragons of Tatooine, or rescuing princess Leia from the Death Star, or murdering Ewoks using flamethrowers. The game is primarily about grinding skills you dont want to touch, and that has been killing the game. Grinding skills has become the focus of SWG.

The proposed changes will do several things:

1: It will add content in the form of quests and handcrafted stories to the word, which everyone might enjoy - not only jedi wannabes. This is wery good.

2: It will remove a lot of BS grinding - meaning that the gameplay again will focus on doing stuff, not just grinding pointless skills - also very good. I won't have to give up my BH carreer to pursue Choreographer, which I am very happy with.

3: It will eventually lead to a lot of jedi running around, which is good, because a lot of jedi = a lot of happy players who get what they wanted.

4: We'll mostly have a "2 characters per server" situation. Most people will get Jedi characters and use their "main" as a support for farming money and items, particularly high-quality clothing with lots of skill attachments, I'd wager... this will affect the economy in a major way, and is perhaps the only drawback I can see about this change, which I welcome of all my heart.

Lots of FSC's will lead to SWG playing sorta like "Vampire: The masquerade", where everybody is a supernatural being pretending to be normal... heheh. That might actually be very cool, all those jedi pretending to be something else...

Oh, one more thing - I am no Star Wars buff, but jedi are actually pretty common in the Star Wars movies... of the 13 main protagonists in the original movies, no less than6 (!) are force sensitive characters!

Main characters (not counting droids, of course):

FSC:

Luke Skywalker

Leia Organa

Anakin Skywalker

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Yoda

Emperor Palpatine

Non-FSC:

Han Solo

Chewbacca

Lando Calrissian

Boba Fett

Admiral Tarkan

Admiral Ackbar

Jabba the Hutt

And I dont even think the last three or four belong on the list, they are just supporting characters (movie lingo for "NPC") with minimal time on-screen. Even Boba is pretty much an extra, he has no spoken dialogue that I can remember. So concider this, of the nine main characters (not counting the droids) of the originals, six are FSC, whereas only three are not - a 2:1 ration... which is pretty much what we will eventually see in SWG, too. Which is OK by me.

SWG: jedi Knight online, with tons of jedis running around cause they dont have lot to lose in combat, in will suck for the other professions in the game

Yeah ! jedi running all over the planets,

and now rename that game jedi's strike back,

what a drift from the SW universe.

Marketing change tomake casual players happy ... sony is about to disguss a lot of ppl just to keep some opened accounts.

That's true, you don't loose your FSCS with the perma death anyway, but a perma death stop you for a while, even some ppl simply give up their FSCS for a while, to refund and find new crystals / krayt pearls.

Now every new jedi will be there forever, more and more jedis, everywhere, what's the point exactly ?

I'm for the quests based unlock of the FSCS if that quets are, hard, long, intersting ... if it's just a tiny quest soloable or doable in an evening it's simply pointless, and thatsoftware will just no more be a "game".

I'm against the end of the perma death, to be honest i was even for a loose of even the FSCS when u die. Just because Jedi must be what they are supposed to be : deadly but rare, fugitive, in danger ... insteed of that they are all around everywhere.

(sorry for my poor english ocabulary, i do my best )

I'm very concerned about the impact on us "seekers" of the jedi path. I'm nearkly doen with holo profession 3, having done Pikeman, Doctor, and almost all of Bioengineer, this is no easy feat. The some kind of recognition had better be equal progress on the path. I've put countless hours into seeking the FSCS, if i'm put into a "you have to start over spot, it will be the last straw, and I'll be done with SWG.

I know this post is probably 50+ pages down by the time I get to respond to it. But I feel that it is a must. It will probably not get read...so be it.

SOE, what have to done?!? You have turned this Jedi/FSCS into a joke. I am a bit angry, so I will try to remain rationale and constructive.

I have been playing since beta 2. I have been playing retail since day 1. I did have to suspend my membership for a month or so due to some RL issues, but that is neither here nor there. I was well over half way through the bounty hunter profession until the X-Mas holocron release.

Well, just this weekend I finally had some time, so I sat down grinded some last profession before dumping skills necessary to continue on with the grind. I sat there and agonized about surrendering the skill and set there several mins before finially typing "yes" and dumping alot of those skills that I had spent months and months acquiring.

Silly me for missing the message boards this weekend because I needed "to grind out" the profession to get your FSCS.

I almost had a heartattack when I logged on to my computer Monday morning and read that on the board. What have you guys done?!?!?!?!?! It has been about a month since the holocrons where released and now it is changing? Have mercy on us "casual players.'

Us "casual players" are dieing a terrible death over and over again trying to jump through your hoops.

Tonight I face a scary debate internally...so I log on and now start jumping through you hoops again. Or do I simply just cancel my account.

Please stop the madness..just open the FSCS to all and be done with it.

I'll give you a third option. As a casual gamer myself I suggest that you go play your main the way you want to! It will be months before the new unlocking system is in place anyway. Plenty of time for the casual gamer to dial in his/her main just the way you want it to be. Then you can hopefully immerse yourself in some epic quest to become Jedi when the new system is in place.

Seems to me they are finally trying to make this game FUN! Though I wont hold my breath, this is SOE after all. But at least for today it does seem like they're trying to put some fun back in this game!

Sad part is...i was playing it the way I wanted. I was tempted by the dark side by the holocrons and destroyed my main to follow unrelated holocron. Will take weeks if not months to build back to where I was.

*for developers*

I only want to add my opinion about new system to become a jedi...

Even though you say "some sort of recognition of players' efforts will be included in the new system" somehow I doubt you will make it easier or just giveaway slot to thosepeople who mastered over 15oreven 10professions, I am myself on 18th (just my luck and work) and it feels like all we did for 4 month (not to mentionall those months before holos appeared) was just a waste of time.

Quest-oriented system supposed to be there in first place.

Im not going to make threats like "i quit the game or anything in that nature" or any threats at all unlike most people like to behave, instead i look forward to seeing what you havein mind (because looking back at nym theme park which is still broken, and it has been released when?)

Too bad i did great part of quests long beforeoctober'03 (except those that were broke at that time, still did them after they were fixed).

Wish you well and best of luck,

My unorthodox suggestion is this:

1. Make the FS slot be awarded completely random and capped by current players vs active Jedi's on the particular server.

2. Implement absolute permadeath. As in 3 deaths and the FS slot is deleted (yes, deleted). Compensate with a stronger Jedi Class.

Regards

Shar

I'm 100% with you on that! That should be the way to implement it.

Also, only the active players should be illegible for the draw, to prevent people from creating a character on each server and wait. You should have something like 48 hours to accept your new Jedi role or pass your turn...

Or, make it so that only peoples currently holding a title of Master in an advance profession are illegible.

Good idea

You forget about internet issues (lag, packet loss) all of a suddent or simple power failure at home, not to mention that live servers have seen some sudden performance loss during all that time i've been playing. Just take diablo2 expansion hardcore (2 years ago)for example, most of the time you die because of lagthat caused by server orsomeone is simply use exploits/bots/etc.etc.

If all that is under player's control, sure i'd take a risk otherwise

A few months form now who is NOT going to be a jedi? Jedi need to lose all skills of the tier they are in.
