TH et al

I would like to apologize, if I may, for all of the disrespectful, arrogant, unhelpful posts in this thread. I do not know how I can justify what is going on in here. I am really sorry about it. We could use a little bit of a clarification on this, but these attacks are unwarranted.

Entertainers

You should be ashamed of yourselves. Do you have any idea how angry the combat classes are that the combat revamp is being delayed, and in the process an "Entertainer Quest" is being designed? I expect all of these loathing posts to be one-starred, and I think you guys should get your ungrateful asses in here, and talk constructively about the topic even if it is a little vague. I know many of you are bitter, as am I, about how our profession has been run into the ground with the AFK stuff, but this is totally unacceptable. I am sure you are asking yourself "Who is this guy to tell me what to do?", and you may be right; I am no better than any of the rest of you at times, but I will not stand by silently, and let this malevolence continue.

Oh my, I feel no shame for the things I've said. I think we all might need to step down off of the soapbox. Imploring everyone to 1-star posts is a tad extreme, too I'd say. It's simply unfortunate this thread was started and no clarification was given as to it's purpose.

I do apologize for blowing my top over the lack of replies from TH for clarification. However it very much seems that "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" around these forums. Perhaps if we show a little passion about our profession, instead of being so passive, a little more attention might be directed towards us. But, I see no reason why I should be ashamed nor why you should implore folks to 1-star posts. If you READ my posts (granted, I did get pretty snippy here and there, bad at work, it happens to everyone) I DO offer some ideas for the profession, and feedback to people for their ideas. I'm very much trying to be constructive on this. I'm assuming it's you who 1-starred my posts, some of which were actually constructive and meaningful (without getting really frustrated).

Oh, and as far as the how angry any other profession is because an Entertainer quest is being worked on, they haveno priority over anyone elsein this game. At least, that's how I'd think it would be. How angry they are over how the developers spend their time is nothing new. Their content additions vs. entertainer's content additions seems pretty out of balance right now - I think they're ahead quite a bit at this point (which makes sense - there are a LOT more combat professions, vs. entertainer professions.)

I think we're all being pretty melodramatic about how horrible the posts are in here. Looks to me like they contain some pretty good ideas. Please try to see past the occasional frustrated comment, as there is goodness there. We can't all polish apples all the time, i need to rest my hands for some serious music playing

Once again (i've apologized for MY frustrated comments before, please READ my stuff before 1-starring it) I apologize for getting so upset the other day. I would just really appreciate some clarification on this topic.

OK, i'm done thanks for reading or 1-starring or just being a kind and thoughtful person as much as possible.

LeBob, i can see you're quite a community veteran so i very much respect you I can see you're trying to save this thread, which is admirable. I feel badly for helping to turn this thread into a negative atmosphere, but what can i say? i love being a musician and kinda feel like we're being placated while other folks' game experience improves. though i guess just abuot everyone feels that way no matter what

I admit, frustration over the AFK problems, coupled with this thread not being clarified at all, and compounded with a nasty day at work made me blow my top earlier. I'm really not usually like that.

I would love to see NPC tippers to non-AFK entertainers. Maybe some interaction with them would deliver a tip. I had an NPCstormtrooper in Mos Eisley walk up to me and start barking things at me - walked right up in my face! we could do something similar for musicians, and maybe work in some way to react to what is said. really, the entertainer profs rely on tips for their livelihood, but folks are notalways very generous so i think a means of making money aside from missions would be nice. e.g. NPC tippers - though as long as the new missions give us some decent credits, i guess that'll be a good start.

Also, I really like the idea of being able to heal/play in Jabba's Palace, that's been suggested countless times and i totally think that would rock.

My other suggestion is a VIP punch card or something for people. you can give it to your favorite customers, you punch it each time they visit you/you buff them/they make you laugh etc. then there could be an NPC "cantina manager" who gives people some loot if they turn in their fully punched cards. I dunno, i thought it'd be a good incentive for folks to find a favoriate entertainer and stick with them - rather than just listen to the giant AFK band in the cantina.

I hope you can forgive me for getting so out of line, all. I'll be better, I promise.

The entertainer is an exciting new type of profession in MMO gaming. It is a social based profession where players interact with other players. Even still, the desire to play through adventures and quests in the game world is something that all players are anxious to see more of. Musicians, Dancers and possibly entertainers have a new type of quest that will be added to the game in Publish 9. Players will have to seek out a theater manager NPC and perform an audition and be judged on their performance.

Yeah we got that part, anything else you would like to add?

I share Spinnthrift's worry that we may be getting only "a new song" -- one new song. That's what TH's 19 Answers imply, anyway. I've asked TH for clarification about this. I had understood that several new songs were in the works. I worry that we won't see them all until the Space Expansion arrives.

My point is that this thread was not made for us to whine and worry in. It was made to talk constructively about the "Entertainer Quest", and up until now I have seen maybe 15 posts that did this.

That's just it the only way true change comes is when people Whine.

BH's were doing insane damage with eye shot....soon they will not be doing mind damage
CH was to powerful....now look at it it has some of the strangest and most obscure rules I've seen.
there are really only 3 things people don't complain about
Droid Engineers
Squad Leader
and the Entertainer stuff(other then the mando complaint)
the only complaints are
"please give us stuff fix our bugs we are begging you"
that's it
everyone else is either "THIS IS TO POWERFUL" or "THIS IS TO WEAK"

There are several points that many of you need to keep in mind:

1.) The mere fact that we even have social professions like this in the first place, means that they care it's here. If they didn't care, they wouldn't have made the profession and invested numerous hours of development and work on it.

2.) The fact that they're even doing a social dungeon in the first place, which is a very novel idea, also means that they care. Would you all have preferred that we not get this? I'm sure that this is no small feat, especially considering it's originality.

3.) All over these forums I find examples every day of people who underestimate the amount of communication we truly have here. I've played several online games in the past, and I've always been a forum freak. And, I can tell you, we have an incredibly high level of communication from the devs, both directly and indirectly, compared to 99% of the other online games out there. I most recently come from a game that offers little in the way of communication. In fact, the devs there have specifically said they if they don't like a poster's attitude or how a thread is going, they won't even bother reading it. Poor customer service to the people that contribute to your paycheck, IMO. But, I look around andsee a lot of dev input around the forums over here at SWG. We have multiple dev posts every day. We have very good advance notice and discussion of upcoming features. And, we have correspondents with direct links for our concerns. The communication in these forums, quite frankly, is astounding to me--in a good way.

4.) Time is limited. Consider how quickly the devs churn features and content here. Again, I ask you to compre what happens here to other online games. Again, I'm amazed at how much communication we get considering the fact that we get so much content at the same time. Certain content may not apply to you specifically, but look at it overall. Compare it to other games, and you'll see that we have it quite good over here. I'm not one of those people that will defend a game if it shouldn't be defended. I've definitely been known to call out devs on other message boards because of slow, trickling content, and no communication. That's why I think it's such a breath of fresh air to come here and see what REAL content and REAL communication is all about.

Now, I'm not completely happy with everything, obviously. I am incredibly unhappy about what has happened recently with our buffs. In fact, I'm pretty irate about THAT. But, I really think when people start complaining about communication, I wonder if this is the first game they've ever played, or what their background is. Because, as I said before, we really do have it good here. And, I don't believe, at all, that they don't care about us or our profession. Things take time. And, again, in relation to other games, things happen pretty fast around here. Do I wish we had more info? Of course I do. One of the reasons I haven't responded to this particular thread is because I can't. There's really nothing to respond to. And, I agree that TH really does need to give us a little more info to go on. If the thread was simply, "tell us what you want to see in a social dungeon." That would be a different story. But, a very lacking couple of sentences is not conducive to a discussion. So, I definitely understand where people are coming. But, I have to agree with LeBob, in that some of the harsh words are completely unnecessary considering how good we truly are treated here.

Well, I do like the idea. I guess my suggestions would be that the quest not simply involving dancing. For example,a step in the quest could involveobtaining a costume byacquiring items from npc. You could have things like healing a particular npc's mindwho you need to first find by visiting different cantinas on a planet. It would also be nice if completing some of the quests involved using the effects like smoke or spotlights (create a distraction to help an npc escape from stormtroopers/rebel terrorists for example). You could have dancing the right dance or playing the right tune for an npc make the person follow the entertainer and once they are following, lead them to a set location (for a meeting, to get them away from guarding something or to ambush them). Those are a few off the top of the head ideas.

And then there are the rewards. There are new dances (although fixing up the old ones would be nice). Granting the power to increase the quality or duration of buffs would be a crowd-pleaser. Granting schematics to make new costumes or props would be nice, even though that only benefits the entertainer indirectly. Giving the ability to alter the appearance of costumes would be great. Even granting a bonus on the payout of entertainer misssions would be nice.

And the repeated point is... you ask people to post and view views, on one hand, then blanket slap people when they do on the other. You don't ever consider saying - shoot.. here's a bunch of brilliant ideas from some disillusioned folk, and try and reword it... you just state that we're all a bunch of whiners.

A lot of work is going into this quest... I hope it will turn out to be something we all can enjoy.

I won't post my thoughts on this here as I have already cornered TH about it in the Corr Forum and in emails, but I do encourage everybody else to leave their input here. TH doesn't always reply, but he does read everything... really everything, it's kind of scary.

Keep it up beat! Keep it as constructive as you can!

We have some attention right now on this topic, use it!

I do like this addition. It sounds great. I hope it will be done the way it is explained. It will add more immersion for entertainers me thinks!

TH made no comment what we should do in this thread. He did not ask questions. As it stands it's an announcement. And the announcement that is so vague that it isn't worth anything. I have posted my oppinion in that thread and won't repeat it.

As I read it, Musician get one new song. Congratulations. We were promised new songs ( notice the plural s here ) weeks after release. What should I constructivly say about that ? Oh, thank you almighty, I am so happy I did not get more so I can wait for publish 18. Yeah. Sure. /target WoW; /redirect pay;
