Thread: Entertainer Quest

So it just goes to show, there's little interest of them coming into here? Why? maybe it's the sheer number of posts that garners attention for use poor Entertainers. So, OK, I'll post! Time to get his thread to a number that might make the Devs read this and reply so we can actually give them feedback for whatever it is they're looking for feedback on - so I'll just keep guessing as to what Thunderheart was even asking about/soliciting feedback for. Ready? Here we go:

Guess #1 Feedback for the very vague description of the new Entertainer missions:

I repeat from my previous post,i don't want to travel to who knows where to play for some NPC whose judgement i could care less about, go figure. I want to be recognizable to regulars who come into the cantina i usually play in, not running around trying to please NPC's according to their programmed "judgement." what's the point in this? This leads yet again back to the idea of Fame points or something similar. Maybe a prominent poster in someplace with the likeness of "the most famous musician/dancer in the city/planet/galaxy." I liked that idea - there's some feedback to whoever said that earlier, i think that's a fabulous idea and i commend you for it. Both for the Fame idea and the poster idea. I'm not a Dev, but I at least read these forums and actively participate in them (and will more so now). Can we maybe make concert posters and possibly get them posted somewhere?

Guess #2 Feedback on what other types of things I'd like to see Entertainers do:

Hmmm...I know I'm reaching here, but......i'd like to see Entertainers ENTERTAIN! Shocking, I know! Repetitive songs (not very many to choose from) and instruments that sound the same do NOT entertain cantina patrons, contrary to whatever you Devs must think. Is there a way we could just get more instruments with DIFFERENT sounds? Not just a new shape, but is actually different - a CDEF Rifle shaped like a Light Lightning Cannon is still a CDEF Rifle, folks - I mean really...

Can you possibly make a system for creating ourOWN PERSONALIZED songs? Put some work into that - pleeeease. I want to create my own songs. Figure out a way for me to do that. pleeease. Can you let us play music tracks through our characters, like DJ some RL music?

Please Please Please Please make a way for Artisans to change the color of instruments! Every piano/guitar/flute/whatever is NOT the same color - except in the Star Wars Galaxies Universe. I want a Red Nalargon! A blue Fizzz! A yellow Ommni box! something, please - let us color our instruments. once you guys work out how to fix your sound shortcut so all the instruments sound like all the others. and you add more songs or something. please.

thank you, i hope someone really reads these things, because there've been COUNTLESS - HEAR ME THUNDERHEART - HEAR ME? COUNTLESS requests for clarification on the PURPOSE of this thread - you solicit nothing from us. We have nothing but ideas to give you, just ask what you want ideas about. YOU REPLIED TO THE JEDI REVAMP 1 THREAD ON 4/20 - THUNDERHEART - CAN'T FOOL ME - NO LOVE FOR THE ENTERTAINERS - VERY SAD. Prove me wrong, man. Prove me wrong.

I think you kind of hit it right on, Warryyr. Devs don't care about us. TH doesn't care about us. The only ones who care ARE us and our dedicated customers.

TH probably won't reply to this thread now, because it's turned negative, and he "hates negativity." That's a shame, because if he'd just given us a REAL topic to discuss, or responded to the first requests for clarification, this thread wouldn't have descended into negativity.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the entertainer professions dropped from the game entirely.

I know, i know. i didn't mean to turn negative, that's why i ended up getting more constructive with my replies. Giving some ideas, since we've no idea what to post in this spot about this new mission, is what i decided to do. we didnt' get 1 reply from a Dev since this thread started on 4/16, yet sooooo many other blast 'em all and kill 'em all professions got lots of attention.

they really shouldn't put up a front about how exciting of a profession we have when we all know the truth - we're just ignored by the Devs and pretty much everyone except our good friends and loyal customers, unless they need a buff.

Now for more ideas about a random topic of my choosing, since our thread has zero guidance and clarification, heh:

They could implement VIP cards that entertainers could give to valued customers, and when we "punch" their cards, they could use it when it's punched all out to get some loot from somewhere! all it would take is a punch card to trade (or a radial option to "punch VIP card"), a place to turn int he cards for loot, and that's it. make the loot good, too - the last thing we need is to become even more of a joke.

Also, could we please buff ourselves? Man, that drives me nuts. I'm a musician, and if i do try to do any battle, guess what goes first and makes me get incapped? My mind bar - PATHETIC. Docs can buff themselves, why not Musicians/Dancers? I know that when I jam on my guitar for long periods of time, I feel pretty darn good, i'd say!!!!

Yeah,TH, this is vague. I would like more info. I would also like for you to pay more attention to what's being said on the dancer board. On the other hand, we have more love from you guys then smugglers get. They've been broken since beta.

maybe 'm being too simple minded about this, but as long as i get new dances and new flourishes for existing dances, i think i'll be happy. i don't mind if i have to go questing for them either. i had a huge post the other night about how i thought the quests could work, but you know, i managed to get timed out and it all went down the drain. boohoo. so far, i don't see anyone has posted anything exactly like i thought, so i might as well simplify and post again.

suppose you go to audition for a theatre manager npc. the npc describes a dance/song to you and you have to decide what you think the npc is asking for. if you are right, well, you continue. if not, you keep guessing until you get it right.

if you get it right, the npc then goes on to describe flourishes and those little special effects they want to see. they keep describing flourishes/effects for as long as you can until your action bar runs out. the npc may give you notice after each flourish/effect if that was what they wanted or didn't want. if you get it wrong, well, you just keep going. at the end, your performance is based on how closely you guessed what they were looking for.

in a way, i think this requires entertainers to really know their dances and their effects. there are at least three types of effect per effect type (like, /dazzle 1 /dazzle 2 /dazzle 3 etc) i think it rewards entertainers for really knowing their profession.

If we are asked to design, then I would ask that this thread turn to brainstorming of ideas of what we would consider to be "meaningful content" to add to the enjoyment of the "social types" of players. Not to focus too heavily on specific types of mechanics or particular content, but more to isolate what broadkinds of elements would cater to our gaming mindset. Once we understand the broad spectrum of underlying motivations and goals that we social players find rewarding and challenging, we can then refine ideas that would support those challenges, and end up with some d*mned fine content.

Fair enough, but what was the purpose of the EIGHT PAGES of feedback that we gave in the In Concept thread, located right here: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=in_concept&message.id=3594

Should we just copy and paste our responses here now? Reading the entire thread, it's not hard to see the popular requests:

1. More songs and dances

2. Complete flourishes for all dances

3. Props, stage sets, tools, craftables

4. Customization options, write your own song, etc.

5. Fame meter, rating, star system, fame faction, etc.

6. Quests for new songs or dances, cool things to wear (for both sexes), etc.

7. Let us use Jabba's Throne Room as a cantina

8. Good missions that scale (payment-wise) with your level, and with group size

The entertainer is an exciting new type of profession in MMO gaming. It is a social based profession where players interact with other players. Even still, the desire to play through adventures and quests in the game world is something that all players are anxious to see more of. Musicians, Dancers and possibly entertainers have a new type of quest that will be added to the game in Publish 9. Players will have to seek out a theater manager NPC and perform an audition and be judged on their performance.

That's kinda vague.

I know that a lot of the dancers have expressed wanting to perform for Jabba. It would be nice if we could do the Jabba quests with an entertainer slant so we didn't have to be combatants to get into the palace. As it is, unless we HAVE a combat class, we never get to see the inside. I could see us running missions for Jabba- entertaining for lesser hutts, keeping them happy and getting a good word put in to Jabba until we can get there.

There's some pretty things that I have in my cantina, that if I didn't HAVE the combat skills I have, I'd never get, And there are some that I *will* never get unless I sell my first pixel child to pay for it. It would be nice to have an alternate way to get some of these things. (the paintings idea was good. Nothing died. Especially not me.)

Entertainers spend all day in the cantina. Like the bar tender. They hear a lot of interesting things. I can see loose connections to Spy Net and bounty hunters, I can see being information courriers for the GCW under the guise of an entertainer.... ...I can't figure out how to put it together but that's your job!

Its great that new content is being designed.

From the description its difficult to tell if this is a series of linked encounters in the same vein as the Hutt theme park, or just another set of random missions like those found in the terminals. Unified experiences, stories from start to finish like the theme parks, would be the best additions. And there is tons of material to draw on for a wide ranging them park experience, tons of movies and books about rock stars, backwater bands struggling to make it, recording deals and unions, even USO show stories. Personally I’d love to take part in a SW version of booking shows, dealing with managers, getting recording contracts, and rubbing elbows with big stars (even if only virtual).

Entertainer missions need to be re-hauled as well. Playing for 10 minutes non-stop in an empty area isn’t fun or challenging. It’s more entertaining to just leaving the character to go make a sandwich than to sit there waiting for the mission to end. Entertainer missions should require some sort of skill use, just like the combat professions, in order to complete successfully. Perhaps a mini-game of Simon Says, or a puzzle game of trying to figure out what the virtual audience wants as game play rather than just flying on autopilot for 10 minutes.

What about the possibility of opening some of the existing theme parks to alternate professions? It’s great that the combat classes get to see the Hutt palace, but what about pure entertainers? With Jabba’s willingness to dump performers who displease him into the rancor pit it seems there would be ample opportunity for entertainers to land a temporary gig. This would also open content to more of the playerbase and allow other professions a chance to see a little more of the galaxy than the same old tired cantinas. Besides I’m really hoping to one day sport a, “I played at Jabba palace and all I got was eaten by a rancor.” T-shirt.

thanks man. I really want this game to suceed but as I see it now it will be overtaken by any of the new games coming out. I'm really a architect/politician on tempest. I have pretty much given up on architect cause I can't keep up with mega companies, and everyone expects me to have 100s of perfect heavy harvs etc... The reason this is important to me is my city being active, and my cantina actually having entertainers and people in it. I also think the musician Faction stuff is good. Also I think you should be able to hire a house band and add it to the maint cost/hr. You could make it where a player could join the band and replace the band members by joining the preformance on stage and they get the payment/hour or /minute. They need steady cash other than tips cause well it is just not steady. and eventually you could have a whole band of players playing. just an Idea would you guys like to expand?

Since my opinion was asked for on another post... I thought I'd come here too and spread my *smirk* "wisdom"... yeah...

Content based Entertainer quest...?

Start by having a notoriety, fame or imfamy level. Since if you go to Master Dancer/Musician/Entertainer - you have the combat prowess of a durni. Depending on where you play, how often you play, and how many people listen/watch you. Make it behind the scenes. If I'm a good entertainer... I know I'm good, but make the game tell the difference between a AFK grinder and a Master of his craft.

While Keith Richards may be able to inject drugs into his eyeballs and go rock hundreds of thousands of people at a time, there may be whole years which he has no recollection of - but I can guarantee you... he wasn't *away from his guitar* at the time. Well, at least not physically. He was probably in a whole different place altogether... but that's another story.

If I'm a purebred artist - someone who can light up an audience with sound or stylish footwork - I should be able to do it better while I'm there.

So... it starts:

The game monitors how much I'm playing at being a musician/dancer - and can keep a score on me.

Then - we need to look at locales for playing... if I'm there to refresh and empower folk... I need a place to perform. Jabba's Palace is an obvious starter. Nym's Stronghold too. If I remember correctly - the Ewok's played good music too at the end of RotJ (I'm trying to be nice here). The Black Sun *are* present... the Imperials need to heal as do the Alliance. Strong locations to start. Dathomir - there's a prison there. I'm sure the Imperials would pay handsomely for brave and daring adventuring entertainers to help keep the forces there in fighting spirit.

NPC's need to learn to tip. Doesn't need to be a lot, and certainly doesn't need to be to AFK grinders... but that's why we have the score kept secret above.

Secondly - we need to have *decent* songs to play, and a couple of Master level male dances. I'm sorry - but whoever decided on the exotic's and lyrical dances obviously forgot that we're in the 21st century. Add to that the loot drop schematic leotard that's female only - and it becomes a joke. Put some *male* only dancer's gear in there as reward (for the females reading this - please don't take offense, I tried not to when I couldn't find any enhancing gear for my *male* Master Dancer).

If we have to play locales, make it so we need to return every so often to keep up our standings. When we become a favourite with the local garrison of stormtroopers - they recognise us and pay more for us. More so for a band!

While a combat profession can earn insane quantities of cash - entertainers have to rely on tips. The Gig mission system is quite a joke. Go to building, play, get 100 credits. Or - go offworld (pay for ticket) - get 100 credits (say 650 loss overall).

Next - make new buffs learnable. Techniques that can extend the duration we can buff for, new songs that can add either extra skill *above and beyond the +25 SEA mark* so musicians/dancers can perform to say a 175% level at Master for being just that. Make it so that the afk bot who's not done these things cannot compete and those who choose this profession can perform to dizzying heights. It's hard enough explaining to people how these things work - as the only buffs well known are Doc ones. Make it so that we have a profile that stands out - as when hologrinding goes, cantina's will probably get very empty very quickly.

Armoursmiths's got RIS - and while it's a little hard to come by - the full set is something else entirely... put in the same things with musicians/dancers... the equivalent to the RIS instrument - the Stormtrooper Helmet Drums! A joke perhaps - but it has merit.

Well, I've gone on long enough now... it's something to go by.

Hi there TH

I think La'lepa's post is the perfect format. A simple list of the concerns from the in-concept thread all nicely summed up.

One thing I'd like to say, and it's a common comment, is to finish what was started before giving us something new. In other words, I'd be estatic if we had all 8 flourishes for each dance. I understand that it must be a very hard thing to add since it probably involves motion capturing and translating it into the game, but you would not believe the resounding cry of joy from all us dancers

After that, getting new dances would be a very nice bonus for most. The use of props would also be a very interesting addition to out profession. We have a very complete thread about it on the Dancer boards. Do a search for dance pole

Please keep in contact with us TH. We look forward to hearing from you

I would suggest to make the Entertainer's World more inviting for other players is to enhance the popularity of the Cantina. I have seen so many EMPTY Player cantina's in this game it is rediculus. I would suggest implamenting a few features that are noticeable about the cantina. I would suggest the option of putting in luckjack machines and this could be a way the Owner of the building could have some income other than very seldom tips. I think this would help out with making cantina's more player friendly. this is just one suggestion but there could be many MANY ways you could make the entertainer more desireable. Outside chages such as a large florecent sign or something that makes them unique, they should be the social center of a player city but as of now they are just a trophy for the Owner and the city. The other biggest problem is that there are so many entertainers who grind away AFK. You guys keep saying it is a social profession but you have made the grind so boring and long that no one wants to do it. I would suggest something like a flawless performance xp bonus or when you get a certain combo of Flourishes as a band etc... you get more xp or something odd happens. It is too much of the same thing. I know this is kinda random points but I think it is huge issue with the game as a social outlet.

i love the idea with the luckjack machines

Well its unfortunate but this thread is aparently useless, we already have our in concept thread with ideas and an idea thread on each prof. page. I love how TH starts a thread or posts one thing that contains litterally zero information and acts like that is comunication. Hell even in his 19 answers thread he chose two questions that were the same so he could give just one answer and then still didn't make it clear........
