Thread: In-Concept Open Discussion (6-28-04)

I would just like to say that I really hope that when the combat balance discussions open up.. the same level of communication is made like what GreenMarine is doing now with smugglers.
Nations could wage war againt each other for territorry, money, or just for the sake of fighting. Nations could have their own laws, millitary (possibly including npc's), and use some of the buildings in the main cities for official purposes (which i remember someone else recomending, too lazy to find out who).
Player Nations would create a better sense of comunity, the way player cities did, and would be a very cool aspect to the game.
If anyone else likes the idea, or would like to add something, please post![/color]

An earlier post suggested the Teras Kasi should turned be into Jedi hunters, or at least be a part in culling the Jedi. Ive seen alot of people both support this ideaand repulsively reject this idea. As for me, I do support this idea, and I'll give both pros and cons as to this reason.
The following arguements that have been said against thisare -
- Only bounty hunters are known to hunt Jedi
- There's enough bounty hunters to do the job
- Teras Kasi are only martial artists, nothing more, and not hunters
- There's not enough EU material to suggest Teras Kasi artists did in fact hunt Jedi in the past
Now for my arguements against those arguements-
Only bounty hunters are known to hunt Jedi - Show me once in the entire movie saga where a bounty hunter was paid to hunt jedi? Boba Fett? Nope, he only attacked Luke because Luke's gang was attacking Jabba, andFett was on Jabba's payroll. Jango Fett? He was hired to kill Padme and thus hired another merc to do the job. Hewasnt hired to kill Obi-Wan and that attack was just in defense. Even against Mace Windu, there he was on Dooku's payroll.
The only place I heard about bounty hunter jedi hunters was in the EU, and that was with Aurra Sing, a former Jedi herself on a revenge trip. A one-frame character later on put into a book. Still, its EU, the same source as the TK Jedi hunters.
There's enough bounty hunters to do the job - The Jedi population is getting bigger and more and more Jedi are not in fear of being hunted. Alot of them are going unchecked. However, this could change as Ive heard the bounty hunters will get a revamp and become alot more dangerous. Still doesnt mean the Jedi will be in check alot more and that fear will be established.
The TKers dont need to access the hunter terminals to hunt Jedi. As another person put it, its a moral issue and not one of money. Give the TKers the ability to at least sense a Jedi nearby and force them into confrontation.
Teras Kasi are only martial artists, nothing more, and not hunters -When a man can go into a meditative posture and actually stop his bleeding, cure poison, negate a disease, and actually heal his wounds in an AMAZING amount of time that defies natural healing, he is not just some kung-fu master. The meditation tree with its powerboost and force of will suggest that there is some inner mystic force going on here. Yes, the Jedi gather their Force from the outside while the TKers gather it from within. That doesnt mean its apples and oranges, but more like red apples and green apples.
There's not enough EU material to suggest Teras Kasi artists did in fact hunt Jedi in the past - Ive read more material on the TKers being Jedi hunters then bounty hunters, sans Masters of Teras Kasi video game.
No one is asking forTeras Kasi artists to be the end all Jedi hunters as the bounty hunters themselves are made out to be in this game, and Im sure the other supporters feel this way too. Those that support this idea just want a little content to go with our profession other than GCW reasons, much like the smugglers. We dont want to replace the staple hunters, just something to add to Teras Kasi to make us more than just kung-fu masters because the current content in the game as well as the EU does suggest we are more.
thanks.

Arron: "I'm going over to Tat to run Jabba's missions. I could use a hand, what do you have going?"
I looked over at the weapon toting "businessman" in flowing green camo fatigues. He was mounting his swoop, and his face had just been replaced by a marine-green bounty hunter's composite helmet, obtained from some unknown adventure.
"I've got one mission here I was going to finish," I replied, "but sure, I'll help."
Arron: "Let's get it and then head to Tat."
I saddled into my speeder, and we headed out to my waypoint. What I didn't mention to him was that this was a level 40+ NPC mission, left over from a group of 17 hunters, BHs, medics and assorted thrill seekers, and that the payout would be good, because the odds would be bad... But I didn't have to, because as we pulled up about 100 meters short, he had pieced it toghether by himself:
They were the Dantri. Not fewer than six of them. Savage, angry, and unfooled by camo kits, everyone of them a solid red con. Arron, like all the Antarian Rangers, was brave but not stupid. I couldn't see it, but I knew exactly what was going on behind that bounty hunter's mask. He gripped his carbine tightly.
"That it?" he asked.
I nodded.
"...we could get killed."
"Yep."
A pregant pause.
"One sec." Arron produced a small injector needle and instantly had twice the Health, Action and stamina of any normal man. I followed suit.
"Ready?"
I fired a bleed that went badly, aggroing the MOB instantly. I began to fall back, across a running brook, trying to maintain space for accuracy. Arron stood his ground. Luckly one of us got off a few high damage rounds, and the MOB dropped, nearly at Arron's feet. Too near.
"That was close."
What followed wasn't any prettier. Blaster tracers wizzed, shaman canes flew, nearby critters flitted. We both had downers in the middle of the battle, but covered each other. In the end, bodies were strewn everywhere, smoldering and steaming, the smell of ionized air mixed with machine grease. And only two left standing, adrenaline pumped, hearts racing.
MISSION SUCCESS! You have successfully completed your mission, your reward has been placed in your account. (You recieve 13000 credits as your share)
Arron: Sweet!
Foubarr: Sweet!
Gotta love being a Ranger.
Thats one of mine, I'm sure I will remember others. What's yours?
Wouldn't it be great to to click on a News Terminal, and get all the latest news/adverts/editorials/stories concerning your city, your planet, or the galaxy, depending on what filter you clicked? These News Terminals would be ingame, not public websites. They would be catalysts for turning SWG into a living community, and would enrich the gaming experiance of all the players.
Make a Jedi padawan able to choose a Master, and a Master agree to tutelage this Padawan. Binding the two characters together would encourage an RP aspect (I know I'd roleplay the part!), but more specifically when the apprentice is hunting with his master, he gets a percentage increase to his experience gain, like 20%. When the apprentice reaches knighthood (E.G. Facing the trials), the Master recieves a large boost to hiss force ranking. Bringing a Jedi to knighthood speaks well of your skills as a Jedi yourself. The restrictions neccessary for this system are listed below. (at least the ones i've come up with.)
2 Week delay in between uses... this prevents instant switching so a person could hunt with any jedi and get the bonus. (Also think a jedi apprentice should be able to "fall" to the dark side and study under a dark master, but that's another discussion in of itself.)
Master must have attained knighthood himself, and have a certain number of skill points immersed in Jedi-ish skills.
Master can only have one apprentice, and the apprentice only one master... subject to the two week limitation listed above.
A limitation must be put where a Jedi can only give Force Ranking to a Master for his FIRST attainment of knighthood. No dropping and getting it right back (got to avoid those exploits)
I'm sure there are other exploits that could be done even with the limitations I've described, but this is all I could think of at this moment.
